Destiny Call

A week and a few days have passed, and still, Alpha Craton isn’t back. No one talked about it, it was as if he hadn’t been their alpha. In a weird and toxic way, it increased Alpha Ciandra’s tranquility state of mind.

With no arrangement like a funeral, she safely completed Beta Garrick’s training and she was ready to leave. Hell, if it was wasn’t for the fact everyone had to leave on a set specific date, she would have left today. She assured Beta Garrick he would be a better alpha as she believed in him and left to pack some essentials she required to use while at the Dark Shadow Pack.

In the evening, Alpha Ciandra wanted to throw a spade at Beta Garrick after he suggested they bury a banana leaf as a way of showing respect to their beloved maybe or maybe not dead alpha. It was absurd and so pathetic, and the moment the words left Beta Garrick’s lips, Alpha Ciandra roared, making everyone shudder.

Fearing she wouldn’t control herself and attack her best friend, she left for an evening walk. It was clear to everyone, once they left, if they returned, fine, and if something happened, then okay too. Yes, the pack would remember them, but no one would spend their days mourning. Who is to say Alpha Cranton was special?

She stood at the top of the mountain where Beta Garrick found her that day, she used her nightly vision and stared at the packs below her. She was confident in her pack and believed everything would go as usual. The warriors would come and the others would go. The unavailability of her and her father didn’t mean they would rest.

Her meeting with the werewolves at the Shutter Haven and House of Noirin was still in her mind, a doubtful thought tried to get into her but she pushed it down, she didn’t want to imagine anything would happen to the women and men inside those walls. Smiling sadly, she knew if, by any chance, she didn’t return, may the goddess forbid, those houses two houses would remember her, and she would go down as an alpha of great legacy.

It was dinner time when she arrived at the pack, she didn’t stop by the auditorium and went straight to her father’s bedroom. Inside, she picked up his photo, rubbed the dust from it, and spoke lowly, “dad, I wish you were here to see me leave.”

Alpha Ciandra was proud of herself and what she had done for her pack, however, not once did she ever want them to be proud of her, or even applaud her, she had it all from her father and she hated to think she was only sad because of his no return.

She heard a squeaky sound from under the bed, and for a split second, she wished it was her father hiding. She laid flat, stupidly not thinking it could be something dangerous. When she found it was only a box, she dragged herself up and headed to her bedroom. If only she had checked the bedroom well, she would have noticed an owl at the window watching her intently.

After packing her necessities, she went outside to burn some documents she wouldn’t leave in the hands of anyone. Yes, she trusted Beta Garrick but not to the extent of leaving some important papers and letters she and her father only knew of. She watched as the flames burned, weirdly, they calmed her.

Once she finished, she entered the packhouse, locked the door, and went to sleep. She didn’t sleep more than three hours and the first cock crowed. She took a shower hurriedly, the last thing she wanted was to reek of smoke once she arrived at the Dark Shadow Pack.

Listening to everyone talking to each other as they walked past her bedroom, Alpha Ciandra’s heart sunk, the pack followed the damn wrong so proudly, and sometimes, like at the moment, she despised it. She shook her head, “eyes on the price.” She told herself mentally.

It was morning, her emotions high and it was the least expected of her. The thoughts disappeared just as they came, Alpha Ciandra was a strong warrior, destined to protect and not sob over the fact of people not showing her love. After all, they were returning the favor, she too acted the same way whenever anyone was leaving.

So yeah, no goodbye cries for you, Alpha Ciandra.

“Good morning, Alpha Ciandra.” Beta Garrick greeted cheerfully.

“You are so chippy this morning, should I be worried?” She asked, staring at her bag.

“Where are your bags?” Asked Beta Garrick with the same look.

“This is my bag.”

“Oh.” He replied, his mouth forming an ‘o.’

She wasn’t going for a beauty pageant, a small bag with her toothbrush, Colgate, and useful essentials was enough, yeah?

The moon above them lit the pack, it was 4 AM with everyone outside already practicing. Once they saw Alpha Ciandra and Beta Garrick walking towards them, they stopped what they were doing and bowed. “No need for that.” Alpha Ciandra said.

They lifted their heads and waved at her as she took off. Not far away from the packhouse, Alpha Ciandra stopped Beta Garrick and asked him to return, Beta Garrick pulled her in a tight hug, and murmured, “please return safely.”

“Let go.” She whispered.

“Right, you are not a hugger.”

She hummed and drew a circle with her finger, Beta Garrick turned around, leaving Alpha Ciandra watching him return to the Vagabond Pack. When she couldn’t see his back anymore, she offered a tiny wave at her beautiful home and started her journey to the Dark Shadow Pack.

She heard the same sound she heard last night inside her father’s bedroom, she followed it keenly and was surprised to see an owl staring at her immensely, the owl flew in front of her, stopped, and lowered itself down. Alpha Ciandra couldn’t help but smile, “the birds love me.”
