Power within

The storm night went surprisingly peacefully. With my new companion and the warmth beaming from the fireplace, I slept as well as ever. Although it was a dreamless night, a wave of calmness washed over me when I woke up. The kitten was awake, too, staring at me with his big yellow eyes.

„You want some milk, kitten?” I asked, yawning.

The little creature meowed in response without moving from his comfortable and warm spot. Giggling, I got up from my makeshift bed by the fireplace, grabbed the bowl, and went to the kitchen. I grabbed the milk from the fridge, poured a glass for me, and filled the bowl for the kitten.

I looked out the window over the sink to check for any damage the storm had caused during the night. Surprisingly, I noticed no severe damage besides some soaked garden furniture, fallen leaves on the porch, and one small broken flowerpot. I checked the light switch in the kitchen, and it worked, as a warm glow illuminated above the table.
