The King's return

The last loaf of bread was cooling on the counter when the door opened, and Mrs. Kringle stormed in, out of breath and red-faced. She leaned against the counter, trying to utter a word. I ran toward her and helped her to the chair, looking around for someone to give me water.

„Annie, are you here? I need some water for Mrs. Kringle. She looks like she ran a marathon.” I yelled, hoping the other baker hadn’t left the bakery yet.

But the lack of response for a few moments confirmed my belief that we were alone in the whole place. I looked at Mrs. Kringle, assessing if she could be left alone for a moment, and when I ensured she was just slightly out of breath and not having a heart attack, I ran to the tap and poured her a large glass of water straight from the tap.

„Here. Small sips and relax.” I suggested as I helped her with the glass to her lips.
