We were halfway there when I looked over at Emery who was as silent as a church mouse. This wasn’t like him and I could smell the nervousness rolling off of him. “Hey man, what’s got you so damn quiet?” I nudged him with my elbow. He blinked a few times as his brown eyes scanned the road and both hands gripping the wheel so tight I could see the white in his knuckles, “I’m just a little tense after seeing those pictures. We have seen some pretty nasty shit, dude, but that was,” he stopped and shook his head, “fucked.” I turned back to the road and the images of the body flashed in my head. I shivered, “Yeah, it definitely makes you wonder what the hell are really in these woods.” I looked to my right and my eyes followed the green abyss of trees and foliage that surrounded us. Since we were kids we had heard all the horror stories about the Appalachian monsters that roamed our woods. Like I said before, most of it was to keep us out of the woods. I wondered why though, what did the older generation really know about this place? The night was the most haunting of all around here. I grew up on about 2 acres of land which backed up to a big well known lake and during the summer us kids would play from sun up to sun down in those woods, but as soon as that sun went behind the trees, daddy and momma would make us come inside. Fear clearly etched on their face if they had to call us more than once. We were told that spirits and creatures of demon like origin roamed the forests at night looking to devour anything with a pulse. It did it’s job of keeping us out of there, but every so often some old meth head or stupid teenager would wonder in there and not be seen again. The police and local park rangers would search the area, but nothing would be found. That’s why momma and daddy kept our dogs close and their kids even closer. My daddy would say it’s a curse the natives, put on the town and the land surrounding it because they were forced from their land. I could understand why they would curse it, hell, I know I would. The sound of gravel under the squad cars tires brought me out of my thoughts. We had pulled into the parking lot of the trails at the state park. “Dude, I’m not saying I’m scared, I’m just saying that all those stories your daddy told us when were kids are heavy on my mind.” I straightened at his words, “I was just thinking the same thing. Weird,” I trailed off, “but look, you know how I feel about that fairytale shit. It ain’t nothing like that. Some wolf probably caught rabies after tearing into some animal and lost its shit and went after the first thing it saw. Just breathe, man. Jay will fill us in and we will go from there.” I heaved a sigh and hopped out of the car. Emery followed my move. Jay Connor was the head game warden here at the state park. He ran other parks, but spent most of his time here, as this park was Georgia’s main money maker. The big beautiful Allatoona lake was right here and the towns and counties that surrounded us were rich with history. You couldn’t go 5 feet into the woods without stumbling on a arrowhead or a musket ball. It was a beautiful place, but scary all the same. Jay walked up to us with his hands resting behind his bullet proof vest on his chest. “Hey girls, glad to see you could make it. Thought for sure you would wuss out on this one.” Jay was a bit of a dick, kinda had that good ole’ southern boy act, but he was okay. “Yeah, well at least I’m not a bald man with a big truck and tiny wiener.” Emery launched his assault of words and I couldn’t help but bust out laughing. Jay chuckled, “In all seriousness it’s good to have y’all on board. My guys all turned tail on this one. It’s brutal. Did Combs show the pictures?” Jay hissed and spit some tobacco on the ground. “Fuck Yeah, man. Made my skin crawl. Got any ideas or any leads?” Emery asked with a sick look on his face. “Nah, no leads. We have ideas though. Follow me. It’s easier to walk and talk. We will ride the ATVs out of here and go to the scene.” We followed Jay to the shop where they keep the boats, ATVs, and other cool toys for patrolling. He stopped before we each hopped on our own ride, “It’s 3 miles from here North west,” he pointed behind us, “look, it’s a lot nastier up close. I’m warning you now that you have a chance to give up on this or to continue through, but before you head out there you need to know something.” He spit again, “The wolf and human hair that was found is from the same skin follicle. Also, the eyes were taken from the body.” I know I must have had a crazy look on my face because Emery looked at me and cocked a brow. “Meaning?” I narrowed my eyes as I asked the question. “Meaning either there is some sick freak out here ripping up people and taking their eyes, forensics fucked up or we got a werewolf on our hands.” Jay said this with a straight face and hopped on the four wheeler. I let out a laugh I had never heard before, “You are messing with us! I can get behind the whole sick serial killer thing, but you can’t be serious, right?” I looked at Jay and his eyes went to the ground. I hopped on the four wheeler and nodded for Emery to do the same. “Hell, Tyler, I don’t know. I just know that there is some weird shit going on and someone or something with a mix of human and wolf hair has murdered someone or whatever. I know it sounds insane, but damn if it ain’t weird. Oh and by the way, y’all are getting sworn into secrecy after this shit. Mayor Argent doesn’t want anyone knowing about this outside of Law enforcement and the town council members. Let’s go.” Jay finished what he was saying started his engine. “Keep up the best you can! We can’t have anyone else getting ripped up out here.” I said loudly over the engines to Emery. He sucked at paying attention and I didn’t want him driving off into the middle of the woods without me there. He smirked and flipped me off, “I’m not that stupid!” And as he said that his engine stalled. I shook my head and waited for him to start it back up and we took off after Jay.

  • Alpha Dalton   Chapter 50

Alpha Dalton’s POV:8 MONTHS LATER:I looked over at my beautiful Luna and smiled. As a man we are taught not to show emotion, but with her standing by my side in all white, I couldn’t help but get a little teary eyed. My dreams have all come true in the matter of a year. I have never been as happy as I am now. We decided to wait for children after her little scare, but then that all went out the window when just a few short weeks later two pink lines popped up. I decided right then and there to make her my wife. I was going to do it anyway but what better way to surprise my momma than with a wedding and a baby. Tyler was upset at first because it wasn’t in her plans and I totally understood that. It’s her body and I told her that whatever decision she wanted to make that I would back her up entirely. Now she is standing next to me in a beautiful flowing white gown with little rose petals sewn into the train. Her hair is down and curled beautifully and light makeup covers her face. Her

  • Alpha Dalton   Chapter 49

Tyler’s POVI watched as Dalton walked through the front door of the pack house. His face was tired and his shoulders hung. He had executed Maxine and Doctor Winder this morning and then we had all helped with tending to the hurt pack members. I didn’t go with him to see them be executed. I couldn’t bring myself to do it even though she had tried to kill me, my family, and Dalton multiple times. I just didn’t want to look her in the eyes as he took her life. I was sitting at the kitchen bar when he walked in. He eyed me and made a straight path to me. When he approached he turned my chair toward him and picked me up by my waist and held me tight to him as I wrapped my legs around his waist. He has hugged me and loved on me multiple times but this was different. Dalton was known around the world for his cruelty but no one but his family, friends, and I knew this side of him. What he has been through lately and what he had to do this morning had upset him and exhausted him, “You okay, Ho

  • Alpha Dalton   Chapter 48

Tyler’s POVOnce we stopped at the border I could see that a war was going on. There were bodies on the ground and the earth was scorched. Werewolves were fighting witches left and right but being taken down easily by their violent blasts of power. If you have ever seen a power box explode and light up the sky that is what it looked like. I scanned the horrific scene frantically. I didn’t see Emery anywhere. I jumped out of the truck without a second to explain and ran towards the chaos. Dalton was hot on my heels, yelling at me to stop but I didn’t care. My best friend was out there somewhere and Maxine had gotten the jump on us., “Tyler! Stop!” He screamed at me. I whipped my head around to see him tearing his shirt off and I screamed back, “No! I have to find Emery!” I continued my sprint until I tripped over someone and landed flat on my chest with a loud thump. I quickly regained my footing and went to take off when I heard my name, “Tyler.” I turned around and it was

  • Alpha Dalton   Chapter 47

Alpha Dalton’s POVHow could you protect a whole pack but yet only truly care for one person? Don’t get me wrong, I care for my pack but not as intensely as I care for Tyler. Nothing comes that close. I looked over at her as we drove to the prison. She was staring out the window and biting one of her nails. I have examined this woman on a stalker level so I know she is nervous when she does that. She would never really admit it though. One thing among a thousand other things I admired about Tyler was her sense of always trying to seem like she was fine. She made others feel calm even though she is probably freaking the fuck out. She turned toward me and gave a half smile but quickly looked back at the window, “She’s coming for me. Isn’t she?” I kept my eyes on the road and made sure my voice came out steady. I wasn’t going to sugar coat it for her. Tyler can handle just about anything you throw her way, “Yes, but I will try my hardest to prevent that.” I saw her shift out o

  • Alpha Dalton   Chapter 46

Alpha Dalton’s POVTyler had gone to the doctor this morning to figure out what was up with all the throwing up she did throughout the night. She was acting weird this morning when she left. I was just finishing up the approval on the design for Genevieve’s house. She decided after the battle that she would stay in the pack. Tyler’s parents went back home and so did her siblings. Tallon and Benny decided to finish out the year where they live and then move their families here. Tyler had been so excited when they said they were coming back. She hasn’t stopped talking about it. Thorn is staying with his parents for now and comes and goes when Tyler needs him. They are quickly becoming the siblings Thorn had always wanted them to be. Life felt complete here, but I was worried about Tyler. She keeps pushing herself to the limit with training and I think it has worn her down immensely. I sighed and rubbed my forehead as a knock sounded from my door. I quickly rubbed the tirednes

  • Alpha Dalton   Chapter 45

Tyler’s POV3weeks laterIt was 3 in the morning when I crept down the stairs to grab a glass of water. Dalton and I had just gotten back from a beach vacation a few days ago and I was so wound up from it still that I couldn’t sleep. I also had been nauseous all day. I rounded the stairs and padded my way into the kitchen with thoughts of Dalton and I making love on the beach in the middle of the night. My smiled quickly faded and was replaced with a mouth open scream when I saw Emery standing in the doorway leading out into the backyard. He quickly spun around and held his fists up and his eyes widened before an aggravated expression took over his face, “What the hell is wrong with you?! Why did you scream like that?” My hand went up to my chest as I heaved a deep breath and tried to calm my fast beating heart. I walked toward the fridge and whisper yelled at him, “What the hell are you doing standing in the dark like a creepy weirdo? I’m pretty sure I just p

  • Alpha Dalton   Chapter 44

Tyler’s POVWhy is it that every time I decide to take matters into my own stupid hands I end up knocked out cold? I have to start making better decisions. I squinted through one eye and immediately felt a sharp pain just above my right eyebrow as the light from the room blasted me. I decided that opening both my eyes would be best since I didn’t know where the fuck I was. I glanced around and the first thing that came into focus was my mom sweeping like a mad woman and cursing at my dad while he was watching some car show, “You could get up and help, you know? These men are so messy. Tyler isn’t tidy either so I know I’m going to be over here helping out the cleaning crew once a week. Is this a condom?” I snorted at my mom picking up a wrapper of some sorts and my dads head snapped over to me, “Tyler?” They both came running towards me as I winced and tried to sit up. I felt like I had been run over by a bus. I can’t remember much but I do remember killing him. I remember

  • Alpha Dalton   Chapter 43

Alpha Dalton’s POVAs I headed straight towards the devil incarnate with Thorn on my back I heard nothing but the pounding of my paws hitting the ground and the blood pumping through my veins. Argents eyes were anywhere but on me. He was scanning the field for someone and I know exactly who he was looking for, “Not a chance, asshole!” Knox growled in my head and gave me extra strength to move forward, “Dalton!” Thorn’s voice interrupted my thoughts as I got closer and closer to Argent. I looked to my side slightly and Thorn had his finger pointed to my right, “Tyler!” He yelled loud as I took a double take at my Luna on the back of one of my warriors. Fury was evident in her eyes and her arms were out stretched. Her body was literally in flames, but not burning the wolf she rode, “What the fuck, Tyler? What are you doing?! I told you to stay in the war room!” She turned toward me and even from across the field I could feel her every emotion, “This isn’t just your war, Dalto

  • Alpha Dalton   Chapter 42

Alpha Dalton’s POVThe crisp fall breeze entered my lungs as I stepped out on the field where the rogues will be at in just a matter of minutes. Tyler was tucked safely under my arm, but I knew she could not remain there. She would have to go and stay safely hidden in the war room in the prison. It was heavily guarded and no one was getting in there with our some kind of explosive. I looked down at her and she met my eyes with her mossy green stare. For a moment that is all I saw until the horn sounded. She frantically looked around then back at me. Her eyes searching for some kind of comfort, “Dalton, I-“ I stopped her words with a soft kiss and held her face close to mine. I leaned down and looked from her mouth to her eyes and smiled, “It’s all gonna be okay. You are going with Garrett and Shay,” I waved my two warriors over and they greeted Tyler with a sympathetic smile. They were mates. They knew the agony that Tyler and I felt, “They are going to escort you to the wa
