Synopsis

Tyler has landed herself a Job that she is so grateful for. She is happy, thriving, and very much the Independent woman that she always wanted to be. She has her dream home and everything she has ever worked for and wants for nothing, but maybe a companion, but that is far fetched for the line of work she does. That is until she finds herself on a call in the middle of the forest. She gets face to face with a massive creature that could turn even the strongest men into a terrified mess, but she can’t help but feel a pull with the beast. To find out what this connection means she leaves everything she has ever known behind, but she finds out more than what she bargained for and her life completely shifts. Literally. She is thrown into a world that she didn’t know existed and is blasted with secrets, lies, and powers that you only read about in fairytales or your moms weird fantasy books. The mysterious and blood thirsty beast leads her into a life she could only dream of and she is not sure if these dreams are of nightmares or something you never want to wake from. Tyler may think she is on top of the world with her new Job, new house, and everything in between, but she is about to find out how on top of the world she really is. Tyler becomes the main obsession of the beast and he is insatiable when it comes to her. The human who was hard to love is now being crushed by emotions and not just from herself, but from the beast who found her in the woods.

Chapter 1

I had just entered the station and sat down to enjoy my cup of coffee and popped in my ear buds when Sergeant Combs came up to my desk, “LaFlamme, look alive.” I sat straight up and my coffee took a dive off my lap and landed square on the Sargent’s perfectly shined boots. I heaved a shaky sigh and slowly looked up to see his grey eyes lower to his shoes. “Shit! Serg, I am so sorry. I didn’t sleep well after the late call I had last night and I was just restin’ my eyes. It won’t happen again, sir.” At this point I was standing directly in front of him with my hands behind my back and the sound of thunder and rain still in my ear buds. I quickly reached up and snatched them out of my ears. I am a total dunce sometimes, I swear. Sergeant Combs eyes scanned me from my boots to my hair. No doubt taking in my exhausted state, “It’s alright Tyler, I was just messin’ with ya, but now I realize I shoulda let you rest a little bit.” His eyes went back to his boots and I cleared my throat, “I will shine those back to the way you had them sir, I apologize. Like I said it won’t happen again. He searched my face to see if I was joking and when he realized I was serious he stepped back a little. “Tyler, seriously, it’s no big deal. You are a hell of a deputy and work yourself beyond belief. I don’t mind if ya get a little shut eye while there ain’t nothing going on. It’s just a little coffee. Sit down for a minute and relax. Ain’t no boot shining going on in here, well, unless Koda messes up again. I’ll make him shine everyone’s boots.” I looked over at my partner and chuckled. Emery snapped up with the mention of his name and came over. Emery Koda had been my best friend since we were 9. We had joined the police force together. He was selected as my partner early on and I couldn’t have been more thrilled. I didn’t have the sense of humor that he did so it made for an interesting duo to say the least. He was my best friend and brother for all intents and purposes, but sometimes he drove me out of my freaking mind. He walked over with a pouty look, “I heard my name and the mention of shining boots and I just want to say that it was all Tyler’s idea and she forced me to do it.” I let out a half snort. This asshole. Sergeant Combs huffed, “Shut the hell up Koda and go back to your desk. We all know you get everyone in trouble.” Sergeant laughed and Emery went and sat down with a dramatic slam into his chair. “Alright now, listen, I got a call this morning and I want you two to go check it out. It’s over on Carver Road about 3 miles north west into the woods. There was a body found by a hiker this morning, the Game Warden wants extra patrol on site and called me for some assistance. An investigation is underway and you two,” he looked between Emery and I, “ are the best I got and can stomach most anything. I got photos of the scene and man, it’s sick.” He hands us both large manila folders. I open mine up and wince. “Daaaaamn. This person was mauled. Is that even a person? Shit, that’s bad. No human could do this.” Emery looked a bit green as he looked at the photos. I scanned every one of them top to bottom. This seemed to be an animal attack so the question nagged at me. Why would the Game Wardens want lowly deputies keeping an eye on his state park? And why was this an investigation? I stared at the photos as I asked him “Umm, sir, this is clearly an animal. I’m not sure what animal, but no human could pull this off. Why is this under investigation?” Sergeant Combs swallowed audibly and cleared his throat, “There was hair on the ground next to the individual that matched both wolf and human. The human DNA is no where in our database and well, deputy, this is Georgia… wolfs don’t tend to attack and we haven’t had an attack from one since the 70s. Ya’ll know that. I don’t want a repeat of history.” He ended with a sharp look at the bulletin board behind him with a large newspaper clipping. It read “WOLF CLAIMS 10.” We had all heard about it growing up but it was more of a scary story to keep us out of the woods. We all knew it had happened, but they never saw the wolf that did it so everyone kind of let it go. “Serg, this isn’t our scene. Why the extra hands? I mean, they have a hunters for this. What gives?” I looked back from the board and looked at Emery. He was nervous, but I couldn’t tell why. I could feel it though. As soon as we got in the squad car I would ask him. After my 16th birthday I had been gifted this sense of knowing or feeling when someone was masking their feelings, lying, sad, mad, and everything in between. I don’t believe in none of that supernatural stuff, but Emery claims it’s ‘cause I’m an empath or a witch. He is insane and watches way too many movies. I just know sometimes it was more of a curse. I pushed people away because I could always feel what they were feeling. It got me into shitty relationships and it got me out of some too. One of my ex’s claimed I was a frigid bitch because I never let him in, both physically and emotionally. I knew he was a little rodent of a person though. He cheated on me with a girl from our high school and lied straight to my face about it. I could smell the deceit coming from him for months, but I held out hope that it was for other reasons and maybe I could make it work and be loved by someone other than my parents, siblings, and Emery. It didn’t last though, that stench of deceit grew and grew. I eventually broke it off and might have broke his nose too. He shouldn’t have tried to put his hands on me. I didn’t play that shit, especially from a lousy person such as himself. My dad taught me better than that. I held myself to a higher standard and I wasn’t gonna be trifled with. My thoughts consumed me as the Serg and Emery were talking. “LaFlamme, did you hear me?” I snapped back up, “Sorry sir, what was that?” My face turning red. “I was telling Koda that the Game warden on duty would give y’all the details when you get there and to go ahead and load up.” I laid the Manila folder down and started to stand up to walk over to Emery. “Oh and LaFlamme?” Serg said with a stern tone, “have an opened mind. I need you in this case. All in. I have every confidence in you and that bullshit detector you got.” He tapped his nose with his index finger and I giggled a little, “Yes, sir.” I nodded to Emery and motioned twards the door with a flick of my wrist. I’m not going to let Sergeant Combs down. I had come this far and if this case can land me a detective position then I will fight tooth and nail to get it.

Chapter 2
We were halfway there when I looked over at Emery who was as silent as a church mouse. This wasn’t like him and I could smell the nervousness rolling off of him. “Hey man, what’s got you so damn quiet?” I nudged him with my elbow. He blinked a few times as his brown eyes scanned the road and both hands gripping the wheel so tight I could see the white in his knuckles, “I’m just a little tense after seeing those pictures. We have seen some pretty nasty shit, dude, but that was,” he stopped and shook his head, “fucked.” I turned back to the road and the images of the body flashed in my head. I shivered, “Yeah, it definitely makes you wonder what the hell are really in these woods.” I looked to my right and my eyes followed the green abyss of trees and foliage that surrounded us. Since we were kids we had heard all the horror stories about the Appalachian monsters that roamed our woods. Like I said before, most of it was to keep us out of the woods. I wondered why though, what did the ol

Chapter 3
Alpha Dalton’s POVMy whole body aches as I sit up in bed. I heard Nicklaus come through the mind link, “Dalton, there is an issue over near the lake. We need you ASAP.” He sounded worried which was not super unusual the case for my beta. Nick was a beast and that’s why I had chosen him to be my right hand man, but he stressed hisself out way too much. We had been through many battles and seen the world together. I trusted his instincts more than anyone. If he was worried then something was definitely up. I scrubbed a hand over my face and pulled the blanket off of me. “I’ll be there in a few. Is it extremely urgent?” I walked over to the bathroom and flipped on the light. I stared at myself in the large mirror and hissed. I really needed to quit drinking and start sleeping more. Being an Alpha is hard work, but being the Alpha of the biggest pack in the world is harder, Rosewood Pack. We may sound dainty, but we were known for our harshness. Nick came through again, “Yes, Alpha. There

Alpha Daltons POVI was running so hard and the anger inside me was so consuming that I missed the trail to Green Cove. I circled back and ran down the trail where I saw my Beta and Gamma sitting on the lake bank behind some large bushes. I skidded to a halt right next to them and lowered myself on to my haunches. “Hey y’all, someone left me another jar on the damn porch again this morning so excuse me if I’m a little late.” Nick growled low and mind linked the both of us, “These mother fuckers are gonna keep on with us and there gonna be a blood bath on their hands.” I huffed in agreement. I kept my eyes trained on the bank of the other side of the lake. I saw the park rangers, forensic teams, and deputies surrounding the body. “I really think they want to expose us. It’s smarter if we wait them out. We are lethal to their kind and they know that. I also think that jack ass Mayor Argent is behind all this.” My gamma Connelly was speaking nothing but the truth. Argent had been trying t

Chapter 5
Tyler’s POVWe had just left the crime scene and my whole body was screaming for a shower after seeing that horrendous sight. The poor girl was mangled so bad we had no clue who she was. Aside from her eyes being gouged out, every single one of her teeth was missing. A few years back I had been to a crime scene where the person’s teeth were missing and it was discovered that people who do this do not want you to be able to identify the body in any way possible. It made me cringe just thinking about it. This time on the way out of the state park I was driving and all I could think about was that poorly mangled girl and that I could feel eyes on me the whole entire time. I mean, the game warden and forensic team was staring Emery and I down because they had heard about us before, but this was different. I swear I could feel someone watching me from a distance. I didn’t feel in danger, but I knew I was being watched carefully and that thought freaked me the hell out. Emery was still bein

Chapter 6
Tyler’s POVI finally reached home and sat in the driveway for a minute. I stared up at the farm style house with awe and smiled. This career has landed me with so many amazing things that I never would have even to begin to dream of. If I could get the detective position I would have everything. I finished day dreaming and walked in the side door of my house and went and got changed. On my way out I grabbed a few things to eat and some water bottles and headed back to my squad car. As I was leaving I looked back at my dream house and memorized every detail. I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that I couldn’t put my finger on. I made my way through town as the sun started to set. I saw a group of people around my age wobbling out of a bar and laughed. I was too much for this town and I always knew it. My parents had always pushed me to be the best that I could be and it really paid off. The better I was at things though, the less friends I had. I could count my friends on one han

Chapter 7
Alpha Dalton’s POV“Knox! Seriously? You just scared her so bad she knocked herself out!” my wolf was way too much sometimes. I shifted quickly and pulled on my sweats I had tied around my ankle. Knox whined in my head, “I’m sorry! I got a little excited and when she went for the radio I didn’t know what to do. I thought she was gonna give us away and all I wanted was to smell her. Goddess, she smells so good.” I rolled my eyes as I hurried over to her and knelt down. I frantically checked to see if she was still breathing. She let out a sigh but remained unconscious. The relief that rushed over me almost brought me to my knees. “Next time, let me handle it. I wanted to watch her for the night not knock her the hell out.” Knox retreated into the back of my mind with one last whimper. I looked down at the woman and repeated her last name as I read her name tag, “LaFlamme. LaFlamme? That sounds so familiar.” I was mentally scratching my head as I stared at her beautiful face when Nick an

Tyler’s POV Those red eyes. They were like two blood moons staring me down, but I couldn’t help but feel like I wanted to keep staring. I needed to keep staring. I needed to know the soul in those eyes. As I dreamt of those harsh crimson eyes I could here voices all around me. “She’s gonna freak the fuck out!” Said a man with clear anxiousness in his voice. “Shut up, Connelly! She is waking up. Stand back and let me handle it.” There was another male voice, but this one sounded like heaven. The smell in the room was different. Something smelled familiar and absolutely amazing, like a fresh spring and pine. My eyes fluttered open and it took a few seconds for things around me to come into focus. I noticed the large vaulted ceiling where a beautiful red ruby chandelier was hanging from a wooden beam right in the middle of the ceiling. I scanned all around the room until I landed on a pair of the most beautiful turquoise blue eyes I had ever seen. “Pardon the intrusion, ma’am…” the man

Chapter 9
Tyler’s POVYou know, growing up in the south you hear a lot of crazy shit, but this takes the cake. I stared at Connelly’s giant canine teeth and cringed, “You are joking, right?” They all three exchanged glances and Dalton cleared his throat, “No, we aren’t jokin’, unfortunately. I am the wolf you saw in the woods. You are on my pack territory.” He leaned back in his seat and pressed his palms to his knees. He was nervous, I could feel it. He thought I was going to run away. I should be running away like my damn hair was on fire, but I couldn’t. I kept feeling myself being called to him. I don’t know what this all meant, but I was going to continue to ask questions. I was nosey by nature which is probably one of the main reasons I pursued this career field. Look where it landed me, in a straight up shit show. I shook my head at the thought and I started giggling out loud. The three men looked at me like I was growing a second head because I was obviously losing my sanity over this w

Chapter 10
Alpha Dalton’s POVI watched her walk away and I felt like I had been stabbed right in the chest. What if she runs from this town? What if she doesn’t want this life? I don’t know if she is my mate, but I do know I felt a connection with her that I have never felt with anyone before. She was absolutely amazing in every single way. She had a smart mouth, a body that looks like she could take on a tank, and a mind that I wanted to explore. “She’ll be back, brother. She can’t stay out there knowing what she knows now.” Nicklaus clapped his hand on my shoulder and turned to walk away but before he did I let out a shaky sigh, “What if she runs and never looks back? I should have never told her what I was. Not until I knew she was mine.” He turned back around and smiled, “She won’t run, Dalton. Give it some time. She is probably all sorts of fucked up after what she saw and what she sat there and listened to.” He turned on his heel and walked up the stairs and disappeared into the hallway.
