Chapter 53 - Clarity

"You can't lie to me," his eyes turned emerald in color. "So, don't even try," he said, and though I was scared to the core, I still tried to hold my ground. I won't put myself in trouble until they know the exact thing, and they can only get this information from me.

"What gave you that idea?" I asked him, trying to appear as calm as possible.

"Listen, kid, I am the alpha king for a reason. I can hear your heartbeats; I can smell fear on you," he warned.

"That's not fear, that's called sweat, and everyone sweats... I just sweat a lot," I told him with fake sass. He glared at me as if he could bury me six feet under the ground right then and there. I did my best not to look away from his eyes.

"A liar with confidence like you is a disaster," he muttered, but I didn't say anything in response; I just kept looking into his eyes. After a while, a warrior approached us, baring his neck as soon as he reached us. He didn't even raise his gaze towards the alpha king.
