Chapter 49

Avery Elise's P. O. V.

"Hmp!" I tilted over the bed when I felt something that kept on hurting my back. "Argh!"

Every passing second, it feels like the pain just intensifies even more. I can feel my sweat dripping from my forehead. I tightly grip on the pillow beside me before I bury my face in my pillow.

No matter what I do, the pain still lingers in my back. I tried to suppress my groans, until I felt someone caressing my back.

"Wife?" Duke moved beside me and he pushed aside my hair behind my ear. "What's wrong?"

I slowly opened my eyes and looked at his side. Surely, pain was visible in my face and my tears could prove that. Duke became alerted after he saw me crying. He sat down and guided me to do the same.

"Are you in pain anywhere? Tell me!" I wanted to focus more on him because of the sudden panic I heard in his voice, but the pain I was feeling was too much company to my curiosity and surprise.

"M-My back… It hurts, Duke." I looked into his eyes while crying my heart out.
