Chapter 162 - Kelly

I didn’t know that the sun was already up until Katherine walked in with my breakfast in her hand, and Clint just behind her. They both paused for a moment, their eyes scanning me where I sat hunched over the journal, still wrapped in the dim glow of the early morning light.

"You didn’t sleep?" Katherine asked, surprised to see me wide awake. She crossed the room, setting down the plate of food beside me before turning back toward Clint. He leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching me silently.

I rubbed my eyes with a yawn, trying to clear the haze of exhaustion. “I did,” I mumbled, glancing down at the journal in my hands. The edges were worn, the leather cover cracked from years of being opened as if someone had spent so much time reading them over and over again. "But I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t sleep after that."
