Jett POV
I could not help but laugh at Clove's report. "So my girl really is a criminal, huh?" I realized my slip of tongue the moment I said the words. Then I stole a quick glance at my Beta to see if he noticed. He hid it well if he did. "I'm working on IDing his werewolf friend," he went on. "But here's the interesting part. The man is based in Los Angeles, Alpha. And I've... completely lost the wolf's trail. Manny can't tell which way he went after he left Westwego. Proves their experience. They were definitely hired." Hired? I guess I would find out who hired them soon? The fact that the human was based in LA was interesting, indeed. That was the City of the Forest Moon. A pack that was more than mere ally. The Mooners were brothers of the Night Storm pack. I fought side by side with Alpha Nick of the Forest Moon. The City of Jefferson and my new pack were the prize of that battle. I became Alpha of the Night Storm after we killed the former Alpha, who was a mutual enemy. Apart from that, Nick and his Beta were my brother in-laws. The latter mated my little sister recently. Clove was still talking. I half-listened as memories of that night of battle played before me. I'd been thirsty for Alpha Laz' blood. But Nick got to him before I did. He cut off his head and took it with him to L.A. "So far, we know that the raven girl has never stepped foot in Los Angeles, so it's very confusing. We could figure out what Loki Freeman wants with her without wasting time, but you said not to let him bleed too much, so..." "Who the hell's Loki Freeman?" I asked absently with my eyes fixed on the girl's door. "The human," Clove replied. "Her stalker. Name's Loki." "Oh. Go on." "Richard Wolfe is not answering his phone," he said. "The wolf friend is probably from L.A, too. If I could reach him, he might be able to explain." "Yeah," I breathed. "My sister said he's dealing with some personal shït." Clove was right. The human needed to bleed to make him talk. I would go handle that myself. Or I should go ask the little bird all the questions I had about her. I stood there for a long time, unable to decide and letting my mind roam till it returned to images of her sliding down that pole in the club. Barely clothed. While everyone gawked at her ample cleavage and smooth thighs. My irritation rose along with an idea. "He could be a human trafficker? Seems that's serious business around here!" "Actually, there's nothing like that in what we found. He's just a bounty hunter, Alpha. He does some PI work once in a while, but that's it." "Maybe he's branching out," I argued. "People work two or three jobs in this country, Beta. I bet he plans to kidnap and traffick the raven!" Saying the words made my chest grow hot. "Did you say you lost the wolf? She's probably from his pack. If he's not a Mooner, that is. I'll go ask the pretty man myself. She can't leave here no matter what. I'll be back soon." Clove simply nodded and mumbled, "Yes, Alpha. Oh, I forgot." "What?" "Andy called," he said. That was the new Gamma I chose when I became Alpha. "It's about the Ruby princess. She's in the pack. She came with her uncle to visit his friend. We both know she's there because of you." "We already talked," I replied. "I'll call her later!" **** One hour later, I'd had to make Loki Freeman bleed a little more than I initially planned in order to get some answers out of him. What he told me did not make any sense, and he wasn't lying. Richard Wolfe, Chief of Security in Reigns Group, L.A, sent him and his wolf friend to track the girl. To the human, Richie was a top dog. His boss' boss or boss' boss' friend. An influential guy who was friends with the police chief and ate at the same table with the creme de la creme in L.A city. But to me, Richie was Chief Gamma of the Forest Moon. A dear friend. An ally. I was alarmed by the fact that he'd sent them here. What the bloody hell could he want with the little bird? I mumbled to myself. Making sure the human stayed locked up, I ordered guards to stay close, then returned to the motel. 'I think she's asleep now,' Clove linked the moment I arrived. I was surprised and didn't believe it till I moved closer. She hadn't tried to run away? Not even when she didn't feel me nearby? There was no need to go near the door to feel the soft, peaceful inhale and exhale that meant she truly was in dreamland. Wow! One would think sleep should desert her on such a night as this. 'Still can't get Richie on the phone?' I asked my Beta. He shook his head. "I need to head over there immediately," I said. As he began texting to prepare my ride, I turned around to leave but stopped directly beneath the motel sign. The plane was ready within the hour. Clove linked to tell me this, but I merely nodded. It was the dead of night anyway. No need to rush. I waited and didn't set out until dawn's light appeared in the sky. Just when I was about to leave, I felt movement. Then the girl's door opened and she emerged. She stared at me for a few seconds then went back inside. What a strange girl! 'I'll be back in a few hours,' I said to Clove, then set out for the Forest Moon.Jett POVI had known that Raven was well from the moment the witch finished her work. All that was left was for her to open her eyes. I'd waited an hour and a half with the rise and fall of her chest, giving me the assurance that she was alright now. Seeing her actually awake filled me a profound gratitude like I'd never felt before. I had almost lost her. Different emotions welled up inside me as I looked down at her sleepy eyes. The look on her face now brought back memories of what seemed like another lifetime. Of those days when she and I had sat across from each other in this very room. That was the first day that she'd spoken to me. Or the time she'd poured that dirty, soapy water on me.She had the same look on her face now, which meant she was practically back to normal. She was Raven with the attitude once again. I had never been so thankful and happy to look upon a female in my life."None of this would have happened if I had listened to you. On the day of that first attac
Sophie POVI was sitting in a pitch-black corner in a room, unsure how I got here or how to get out. All I knew was that I must wait for the sun to rise. This was a bad dream. I was aware. Yet I couldn't wake up. Fear was my companion. I did not want to be here but could not leave. Jett would come for me. He had always found me before. He came with the sunrise or with a torch.I wanted to scream but was too scared. What if something frightful heard me? What if I was not alone in this abyss, and something was waiting to drag me to hades? As I crouched there, images flashed before me. A recollection. I'd been fighting with my mate's ex when I got thrusted into this dark place. Surely, she didn't push me into this abyss to simply wait here. Something dangerous would come for me. The bakunawa. They would come to suck my wolf away.I hugged my legs, recoiling at the thought. If the sun would just rise. The moon was too far now. Its light could not save me at this time. Not until it retu
Jett POVUs werewolves hated witches. The feeling was mutual. While they considered us animals with a horrid temper, we viewed them with deep suspicion even though, like us, most of them worshipped the Moon Goddess. We were not alone in our hatred of them. Other supernatural beings avoided them, too. The hatred was instinctive. Their powers were from other non-human creatures. A werewolf could tell the extent of another werewolf's power by merely looking at them. That was not the case with witches. A small, slim, ordinary-looking female like this one could do serious harm to a person without lifting a finger. I would never in a million years allow their kind near a loved one. The damage they could cause by merely chanting a few words? That was unnatural.I already had a problem with her mere presence before she mentioned that a "friend" sent her."What friend?" I asked."Alpha Merritt."My wolf fought to come out at the sound of that name. My claws forced themselves out as I made a
Jett POVI stood at the door to the chamber where Raven was being treated, waiting for the nightmare to end. For the doctor to open the door and tell me that she would be okay. That the poison had all been flushed out, and the blood transfusion was a success. And Raven was awake, waiting to see me.Tessa was in there, too. It was her turn to give blood. The doctor said he couldn't take any more from me if I wanted to keep breathing when she woke up. What he'd taken was not enough because most of Raven's blood would have to be sucked out.Thank Goddess for Nick's fast jet, Richard and the twin had arrived some thirty-five minutes earlier. Getting here later than that would have been a problem. Richard waited with me. He stood with his back on the wall watching me. He was anxious as hell. The air was warm with it. Or maybe that was me.I wondered if he was worried about Tessa losing too much blood or if he was simply scared of what it would do to her if... Nope. I better not think in t
Sabrina CliffeSabrina could not hear herself screaming even though she was wailing at the top of her lungs."Kill me!" She raged. "Don't leave me without arms. Jett! Kill me, damn it!"If she could just get close so that her flesh would touch those detached limbs, maybe they would reattach and start to heal. How could everything have gone so very wrong. She had seen Sophia Nile come out of Jett's house, wearing his jacket and reeking of him. She'd thought it was the Fate that brought her out. That the heavens had to be on her side. But she had been very wrong! The trãmp had not only hit back, but she'd fought hard. Sabrina still could not believe this was the same girl that had been a prisoner and at her mercy not long ago. This was supposed to be simple and brief. One dart should have done the job. Denise Lane had betrayed her. That worthless Parker and his partner, Ron. The two had brought the ghillie and poison but had clearly gotten bested by the traitorous Denise afterward. Oh
Sophie POVI ducked just in time for the dart to zing past me. The figure in the ghillie bared its teeth and then reached into its pocket. They left their hiding place and took a few steps closer for a better aim. The last time I saw this person, I was their target, too. Jett had saved me, then, but the poison had caught and left me unconscious for a few hours. The person behind the camouflage was Sabrina, Jett's ex fiancée. I confirmed her identity last time, but Jett did not believe me. Fury burned in my chest at the memory of my mate defending her. This female paraded herself in front of me, wearing Jett's clothes to torment me. She even offered me to a guard to be used and räped. My rage burned hotter with these thoughts as another poisonous dart flew my way. I dodged again, then charged towards her as she was reaching for another dart.Suddenly, the woods became noisy with barks and footsteps, and wolves fighting and arguing nearby. "Need to stop her," argued a vaguely familia
