Four years ago, my twin and I planned to run away from the pack together. She never showed up, so I took off alone. Since then, I often venture near the borders to check if I would see her, but I've had no luck. Just when I decide to disappear and never go near the pack again, I meet my mate. He's none other, but Alpha Jett, the new leader of the Night Storm. The same pack that I escaped from. I'm not under any illusion that he could make me Luna of the pack he snatched out of the hands of my monster of a father. Not even when he willingly reunites me with my twin. But when I attempted to reject him to be free from the bond, I did not expect to get labeled defiant and be thrown in prison. Then, his Luna-to-be tries to kill me. Now, the full moon has passed, which means waiting another twenty-eight days for Alpha Jett to release me from the mate bond. I refuse to wait in prison and be tormented by the scent of my fated mate on the she-wolf who tried to kill me. So I plan another escape. With help from those whom I believe are on my side, I gain my freedom again. When the time comes for us to break the bond, Alpha Jett will surely find me. He always does. But one of us will die before I let him take me captive again to his accursed pack!

Four years ago, my twin and I agreed to run away from the pack. Our goal was to escape the life of servitude that took our mother from us. Mom was a low-rank she-wolf who was forced into the life of a pleasure servant. She endured it for years, believing that her situation would change. When she realized that her master would never love her, she grew sick of her existence and ended her own life. Every member of the pack expected my twin and I to follow mom's line of work. Even omegas looked down on us and believed themselves better than us. Determined for freedom and a better life, Tessa and I decided to run away. The day came for us to leave. I waited for hours by the valley near the aspen tree for my twin as agreed. She never showed up. That day was our only chance. I planned everything so carefully. We wouldn't get another opportunity like that in a long time, so I could not let it slip away. But I waited until twilight, when the bigger werewolves began to enter the woods to play. It grew risky to lurk about as my scent-blocker began to fade. I had to set out on my own, leaving my only family behind. I ran far and gained my freedom that night. Since then, I had lived like a lone wolf, hiding in the human world and sneaking into the woods sometimes. Once in a while, I would sneak into Jefferson, the city of the Night Storm. I would steal into the woods and venture as far as many yards from my former pack's borders. I always thought that with a little luck, Tessa would sense me and come find me. Or that she would be nearby and trying to escape. Then I would help her, and we'd run away as planned. I had a few guesses as to why she did not show up that night. But I refused to let myself think the worst. Like maybe she got caught and was now a prisoner. Or maybe she eventually escaped and was far from the pack and its city. The latter was scarier to think about because finding her would be a needle and haysack kind of chore. I preferred to hold on to my other guess. Which was the fact that she fell in love! After all, she always spoke fondly of young Gamma Kevin Fox. I often let myself fantasize that I was right because that meant that I knew exactly where she was. Also, Kevin was bound to break her heart soon enough. That was a fact. Then she would regret betraying me. She would then plan her escape and come find me. In the last four years after my escape, I did the same thing at least once in two months. I would sneak into my former pack's territory and bravely go near the borders. Sometimes, I got tempted to let myself be seen and get taken back inside. But thank Fate, common sense always got in the way. I was back here again. But today, I had come to a final decision: I would stop all this nonsense, leave Louisiana, and never come back. Tessa was on her own now. After all, she chose a boy over her own blood. Just like mom always chose her sëx master over us. It was time to move on. The sneaking had become exhausting. Apart from that. I was being stalked. Someone was tracking me the way the police did in human movies. They were not one, but two men and had been following me and asking people questions about me. One of them was human. A bronze-skinned, super hot guy with neatly braided cornrows. The other one was my kind. A werewolf! He looked a little older than his dark-skinned friend, and he was built like a trained warrior wolf. His broad shoulders and imposing height seemed balanced by his face that looked like a harmless cartoon character. That nose was too long. I could handle the human but was deeply wary of his werewolf friend despite the cartoon-like face. I had evaded them twice, but they found me again and again. Even though they were nowhere near at the moment, they had proved that they could find me if they looked. The men were good at their jobs. I was now very worried and needed to lose them for good. I couldn't think of what the two men could want from me. Although I had two theories. A few months ago, Larry, the club manager at my old job, tried to force himself on me. I helped massage his dîck with my claws. He ended up in the hospital, and I had to quit that job and the entire city of Lake Charles. Before I left, Larry promised to make me pay for what I did to him. Theory one, he found me and had come for revenge. The werewolf guy was probably his friend. After all, many humans in these parts were friends with different supernatural creatures without knowing it. My second theory was that the werewolf amongst the two was a member of my former pack. They were using a human to try to catch me. I didn't believe this theory because it sounded silly. I was an unimportant, rankless wolf and had been gone from the pack for years. My mother was a pack prostitùte, for Fate sake. The fact that she serviced the Alpha did not elevate my status at all. Not in a place like the Night Storm. By now, everyone had surely forgotten about my disappearance. Except Tessa, of course. It could be that they were tracking me because of her. Did she truly run away by herself at last? I hated to consider the scary possibility, but those men had me thinking all sorts of things. Like maybe Tessa stole something from Gamma Ryan and ran away. Then he sent people to get her. We were identical twins. Those two could be mistaking me for her. Their reason did not matter. I would not be coming back into this city for a while. Maybe never. I made this decision while racing away from my hiding place in the woods for the last time. The Night Storm borders were only a few yards from there. I ran quietly and furtively in the opposite direction until I came to where I hid my clothes. Just like the last four years, I was safe. No one saw me. My clothes were exactly where I left them. I stood, panting as I looked all around me one last time. How I loved these woods. Too bad, this was goodbye. Everywhere was as peaceful and normal as always. And I was alone. As I should be. At least, so I thought, until I shifted into my human form. As soon as I did, a very low, almost inaudible sound made me jerk around.Jett POVGripping Sabrina by the shoulders, I forced her off me and broke the kiss as I gasped,"What the hell!" "Jett, I don't care," she cried softly, stepping back into my personal space. "I don't wanna wait for the wedding." Her hands moved to fondle my chest as I backed away. An odd scent filled the air. She was truly aroused. Well, that's too bad."I prefer to wait!" I said, catching both her hands to stop the unwanted caress. The scent grew stronger and mildly nauseating as she insisted,"Our packs want us united, Jett.""I know that..."Her small body stood a quarter of an inch close, cramming me to the door as she tiptoed to try another kiss. I moved before her lips caught mine this time. All I could think of was how different Raven had felt in my arms. With both hands on her shoulders again, I gently pushed her away,"Stop!"She stepped back, her eyes wide with innocent shock."What's the matter?" She asked softly. When she blinked, she seemed so small and naive that I fe
Jett POVThe question irritated me. Perhaps because I didn't have an answer. Or maybe because it increased my suspicion about his feelings for Raven.I ignored it and said aloud,"You may get back to work!" At the same time, the sound of a ringing phone filled the foyer with Clove's presence. "Hey, Andy. Top of the morning!""You too, Beta," Andy returned, gulping down the last of his drink. He set the cup down, gave me a slight bow, then took his leave."Alpha, I was coming to remind you of that important call we talked about. But Doctor Moss is on the phone."Well, that was equally important, so I snatched the ringing phone from him and stepped away to take the call. Raven was still on her way out of the building with Kyle and Vera. She looked back, and our eyes met briefly before she stepped outside."Her nose is fine, Alpha," came the doctor's gentle voice. "I didn't find anything strange. Also, when I went to see her yesterday, she sensed me before I walked into the room. Every
Jett POVLast night,It was late when I concluded business outside the pack for the day. I entered the pack some half hour after dinnertime. The sound of the chopper meant that Miss Tessa Nile was about to leave for her pack. Reducing my pace, I strode towards the mansion in casual strides in order to delay getting there. I stopped between the trees when I came within sight of the chopper.Leaning by a tree, I watched from afar as Raven's double walked up the stairs with the two warriors in front and behind her. If I went closer, I'd have to be polite and actually talk to her. I'd rather hear my mate's own voice than a copy, so I stood waiting for them to get inside and take off.She halted all of a sudden and began looking all around. Right. She's alpha-blooded! Of course, she felt eyes watching. I was not the only one watching her, but she found me soon enough. Out of courtesy, I should hide and pretend I wasn't looking. I didn't. It's not the first time she'd caught me. I couldn'
Sophie POV The last time Tessa and I sat on a dining table to eat was almost a decade ago. And it was right inside this building, though not at this dining. Tessa must be recalling the same thing as her eyes grew distant. I found myself feeling all around for the umpteenth time, checking if the Alpha was nearby. He was not in his chamber when we passed by. I couldn't feel him anywhere nearby. If he was the building, he must be far from this part. "I made Richard ask Jett to allow this dinner," Tessa's voice brought my attention back to the table. "Cool," I replied. "You want me to thank you?" She ignored that and said, "You don't know how relieved I am to see you healthy. To know that no one has tried to force you into mom's lifestyle." It was my turn to ignore her words. I didn't wish to talk about Jett's fiancée and Mistress Sandner. Instead, I was tempted to mention the chocolate and flowers. Footsteps outside the dining made us look at the same time. Sabrina
Sophie POVFlowers and chocolate? What the hell kind of game was the Alpha playing? I took a deep breath to brace myself for his appearance. He was already standing between the door jamb. His expression was unreadable when I turned to face him. Stroding inside, he closed the door, though not all the way."Are these meant for me, or they were brought here by mistake?" I asked."They're meant for you. I told you," he shrugged. "They're good for the mood.""And I told you. You give these to your female, not prisoner!""As far as Goddess is concerned, you're my female, Raven."The words, my female, sent an unwanted tingle through me and intensified the butterflies in my stomach. All of a sudden, I became too aware of the vial tucked in my waist. It began poking me like it would slip out and fall to the ground if I took another step. That mild anxiety helped move my focus from the fluttering in my stomach. I was still searching for the perfect reply to his last comment when he said,"You
Andy rejected her proposal! Sabrina could not believe it.He fell back to denying that he wanted Sophia Nile and claimed that he could never court the Alpha's anger by freeing a prisoner. Not just any prisoner, but the Alpha's mate.Sabrina was furious. She felt ashamed to have come to him and be denied help even though she was dead sure that she was right about his lustful feelings. She didn't return to the mansion immediately. Instead, she kept an eye on Andy Marquez. The Fate was on her side. That little task of watching him from afar quickly bore fruit. Faster than she expected. In less than half an hour after the frustrating conversation, Sabrina stood behind two trees, watching as the chief climbed up a window into a female public bathroom in the pack. She snuck after him on soundless feet. Shielding herself, she clung to the window seal and listened as Andy gave Sophia instructions on her escape from the pack.****Sophie POVI had high hopes about that brief clandestine meeti
