Chapter 5

The next day at school things were completely different than what I was used to. Kassius picked me up that morning to ride to school together. We walked into school together, his arm around me and carrying my books with his free hand. Every step we took caused more heads to turn and more eyes landing on us. Most people had heard Kassius’ declaration that I belonged to him at the party however most assumed it was the alcohol talking or just his way of getting in my pants. None of them expected to see us still together today.

Kassius walked me to my first class holding my hand, we stopped just outside of the door and he placed a long kiss on my lips. I could feel my cheeks redden as I was not used to such public displays and I knew without a doubt that everyone was watching us.

“See you after class, kitten.” he said, smacking my ass as I turned to walk into class.

I couldn't help but to have a beaming smile on my face as I walked into class and took my seat next to Santana. I had a feeling I was being watched so I turned to look and none of them even tried to hide it. Everyone in the class was staring at me. I could see in their eyes, they were all trying to figure out what a guy like Kassius could possibly see in a girl like me.

“Bitch, where were you all weekend? I didn't hear from you after the party.”  Santana leaned in. I knew I was in trouble. I had promised her all the details of my date and I had spent the whole weekend with him and hadn't called her once.

“I am sorry I got so wrapped up in hanging out with Kassius I kind of lost track of the days.” I tried to explain.

“Yea I see that. He looks to be head over heels. What happened?” she asked and I could see every girl within earshot leaning in hoping to hear all the details.

“I will tell you everything when we aren't in the middle of class.” I laughed and turned around in my seat.

The next couple classes went about the same. Kassius would walk me to each class with his hand tucked inside the back pocket of my jeans. We continued to get stares everywhere we went. Instead of sitting behind Kassius in most classes like I had previously, now he demanded whoever sat right next to him trade me places. Not a single person dared refuse him. He scooted his desk closer to mine so that we were as close as we could possibly get while still sitting in our own desks. His full attention was on me as if we weren't in the middle of class. His hand rubbing on my thigh, his dark eyes looking directly into my soul. It had felt like we had only been in class for a few minutes when the bell was ringing for lunch.

Kassius had asked me to sit with him, Kai, and their friends at lunch. I had agreed on the condition that Santana could sit with us. Xander typically sat with his own friend group so I didn't bother to ask him. I knew I would feel out of place at their table so I was glad to have Santana there with me. She fit right in as most of these people were also friends with her. Kassius introduced me to everyone at the table. The inner circle of the new Alpha and Beta. The short spunky blonde directly across the round table from me was named Echo, sitting next to her was a large sarcastic boy with red hair and green eyes whose name was Aries. Finally there was a brunette girl sitting uncomfortably close to Kai with what I assumed was a permanent resting bitch face. Her name was Amara and she had been shooting me glares since I sat down. Kai had not removed his eyes from Kassius and myself.

“So Fallon, what did you do to get saddled with Kassius here? I have to assume you were a terrible person in a previous life for the goddess to punish you this way.”  Echo laughed, tossing a french fry at Kassius. I was surprised when he laughed and tossed it back at her. They seemed to have a fun joking relationship and I was really enjoying seeing this side of him.

“Oh come one Echo, we all know she is using him to get closer to me. It’s cool Fallon, I won't make you embarrass yourself by begging. I will save you from Kass here and go out with you.” I knew Aries was joking but Kassius was glaring daggers at him.

We spent most of lunch laughing and joking, most of it at Kassius' expense but he seemed to take it in stride. Amara continued to glare at me as if I had offended her in some way, but didn't bother to speak a single word.  Kai was quiet as per usual for him although I noticed he never took his eyes off of myself and Kassius. I could sense something in his eyes but I couldn't quite place what it was, It looked like a mix of concern and sadness with a little bit of annoyance mixed in.

“So Amara and I were going to have a girls day after school but I think it would be so much more fun with a few more girls. What do you say, Fallon, Santana? Would you like to join us?” Echo excitedly asked.

“Oh I would love to but I have to work. We have a big project we are working on right now. Can I get a rain check?” I answered.

“You work at the packhouse right?” Amara finally spoke. I nodded my head. “That must be so interesting.  So what kind of big important project are you working on?”

“Well I-” I began but Amara instantly cut me off.

“Aren't you the maid? Are you doing a big laundry project or is it a mopping project?” She snickered clearly thinking she was being funny.

Kassius was up in a blink of the eye. He was standing behind Amara before she even knew what was happening. His powerful arms wrapped around her throat as her face was beginning to turn purple. Everyone at the table was holding their breath as we watched Kassius.

“How dare you speak to her like that. You aren't fit to lick the dirt off of her shoes. You are nothing but a whore who follows Kai around like a lost puppy hoping he might toss you a bone. Surprise surprise whore, he still doesn't want you.” Kassius growled in a low voice full of venom. I was sure he was going to kill her.

“That’s enough Kass, let her go.” Kai’s voice boomed in a true Alpha manner. Kassius released her and left the room, it was then I noticed the entire cafeteria had gone silent. Everyone let out a breath they had been holding the whole time. Kai stormed out of the cafeteria without even checking on Amara.

I took off in the direction both Kassius and Kai had gone, hoping to find Kassius and try to calm him down. I walked out of the swinging doors looking both ways for Kass. I didn't see him anywhere. I figured maybe he had gone to the parking lot assuming he would want to go home after that blow up. I started in the direction I thought Kass had gone but I didn't make it far before Kai blocked my path. He placed his hand on my shoulder and looked deep into my eyes.

“Shouldn’t you be checking on your girlfriend?” I asked annoyed that he was keeping me from checking on Kass.

“Who Amara? She isn't my girlfriend and she will be fine. I need to talk to you.” He told me, His tone was somehow more serious than normal which I didn't think was possible.

“Ok well talk, If you can't tell Kass needs me and I need to find him.” I said flatly.

“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. You don't know Kass like I do. He is dangerous and your relationship seems to have put him on edge. He can't control himself when it involves you. You have to end it.” he seemed to really think that he had the right to tell me what to do in my personal life.

“You have the audacity to think you can tell me I have to end my relationship. Who the hell do you think you are? Alpha or not you have no right to tell me who I can date. I thought you were supposed to be his best friend, why would you want to take away something that makes him so happy?” I was fuming.

“Does this look like happiness to you? Kass hasn't been himself for a while now. I think it has a lot to do with you. It isn't your fault, he can get easily obsessed with things.  Not usually people but anything he cares about he takes way beyond what a normal person would. This is becoming a distraction for him. That’s bad for the pack and it’s my job to protect the pack at all costs. So yes, I am telling you as your Alpha this relationship is over. There is no other option.”
