Amy's POV

I emerged in search of a towel, bitterly regretting that I hadn’t taken the opportunity to look for shampoo. A rose-scented shower gel would have been nice, as well, but that would have been too much to hope for in an Alpha’s en suite. Though if he had allowed me in here, maybe I wasn’t the first female to grace his bathroom. Of course not; why else would he have installed a camera?

It was hidden, if it existed at all. I can vouch for that. Not bothering to dry myself, I hunted high and low, hoping he wasn’t laughing at me via a live feed on his phone. For all I had done well in high school, technology wasn’t my forte. I was more of a sporty girl.

The slight pain alerted me to disaster of a temporary kind. When I saw the slow trickle down my leg I knew one method of infiltration was definitely off the table. Damn Jake. His timing was never impeccable.

Alpha Kane returned to his bedroom in something of a mood. The swearing was tolerable; the way he appeared to be trashing the place alarmed me.

I marched out of the bathroom before my nerve failed me, remembering just in time I needed to be soft and helpless rather than demanding and bold.

He eyed my wet hair before his gaze descended lower.

“What the fuck?” he growled.

I bowed my head, pleased I had decided to pinch my cheeks before confronting him.

“Don’t punish me. Please, Alpha,” I whispered.

I knew pack members couldn’t be around she-wolves during their moon time and wondered if there was a special place set aside or if Alpha Kane’s much older one had different traditions.

“I’ll send for an Omega,” he said.

There wasn’t much damage to the place, just a clothes brush on the floor and an overturned yet unlit lamp.

“I can see to the tidying,” I told him, knowing full well pack protocol wouldn’t allow it.

“Touch nothing, Amy. And you forgot to use my title.”

“Sorry, master,” I said, intending to be provocative.

It worked, arousing the beast at the precise time he couldn’t slake his lust on me. I pitied the poor Omega, half hoping they would send a male. Though, I was forgetting, as Alpha he had the right to specify.

“Send Chrissy,” he said. “I have urgent need of her services.”

I wondered why he used his intercom rather than the mind link. Was it for my benefit?

“Alpha Kane, about Lisa,” I began, fiddling with the top of my towel.

“Save it. You are bound for the floor below.”

So he didn’t mind me speaking out of turn? Good. That would save me from a whole heap of extra trouble.

“Um, like this, Alpha?”

“What happened to your nightdress?”

“Weren’t you watching closely, master?” I teased, before schooling my features to innocence.

“There is no live feed,” he barked.

Just as I had thought. Well, if he reviewed the footage later, it would hardly be enticing. Or wasn’t that what he meant?

“Do you want me to retrieve it, Alpha?”

“Stay right where you are. There’s been enough contamination. Why could you not have told me you were blessed by the Moon Goddess?”

“It only started a few minutes ago, Alpha Kane. Believe me.”

Chrissy tapped on the door not long after that. She was a petite redhead with big brown eyes and a ragged yellow dress.

“Escort my slave to Rene’s room, lock her in and bring me the key.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“Aren’t you forgetting something, master?” I asked, somehow managing to untangle the knot holding my towel in place and it fell as far as my waist, exposing what no man had ever seen before.

His reaction was brief but satisfactory.

“You will find everything you need in her closet,” he said, as I covered up my assets once more.

“Is there a tub, Alpha?”

I was determined to needle him some more, not wanting him to forget me. As if he would, given Lisa’s peril. And I knew I was pushing my luck.

“Wasn’t the shower adequate?”

It seemed I had sucked him in without even trying.

“Yes, but I would have liked some scented oils. Master, I don’t suppose … ?”

Alpha Kane stared at me as if I had grown another head. I realised I had better rein in my forwardness; this wasn’t the Amy anyone knew.

“See to it,” he barked at Chrissy, startling the poor woman, who had been a fascinated bystander during our exchange.

“Right away, Alpha,” she said.

“Come back here afterwards and don’t dawdle,” he ordered.

Only I saw the fright in her eyes.

“Who’s Rene?” I asked, as we made our way down the corridor. Chrissy didn’t answer, so I tried again. “Will she be there, as well?”

She fixed me with her sad doe eyes and said only, “No.”

I decided not to push it. This one would not be a useful ally to have and I didn’t want to get her into trouble for disclosing something she wasn’t supposed to talk about.

The door was light blue and newly painted. She struggled to turn the stiff handle and I moved to help. Her smile was pitiful and soon faded as she turned to leave. I could have disarmed her in more than one way, but it didn’t suit my purpose. And I reckoned she had enough to contend with, facing a frustrated Alpha. Being thwarted of his intended prize would not have gone down well, by all accounts.

Chrissy locked me in and took away the key I hadn’t coveted. I thought I heard her sigh.

Then I took the opportunity to investigate my prison, relieved to see there was a thick quilt on the bed and a fluffy rug beside it. At least my toes wouldn’t get cold.

The cream walls were covered in prints of woodland scenes, some of which showed the Moon Goddess in her various phases. I padded to the adjoining bathroom and was pleased to see a tub as well as a shower compartment, the circular kind with sliding glass doors.

This room had definitely belonged to a woman of status at some point. The scalloped sink was a nice touch and the accessories in the small cabinet above were all I could wish. I caught sight of myself in the mirror, noting the slave collar, and had to remind myself I was there to do a job.

Even if Jake had done his best to scupper my way in of choice, to say nothing of Selene, the new Luna.

Wandering back into the room with the single bed, I made my way to the closet and saw only practical clothes inside. Not a ballgown in sight. To my relief I found a pack of tampons in one of the dresser drawers and I saw to my needs before selecting clean underwear and a shirtwaister. Then I switched on the TV, opting for a music channel.

I had found it helped to clear my mind and soon, I was reaching back through time, all the way to Anastasia.

Kane’s POV It soon became clear that Miss McGregor wasn’t a rogue she-wolf. She explained that she’d been heading back to her pack above the border in Canada when her car got a flat. Jake had offered her a lift when he spotted her hitchhiking. She said he’d been on his own and never mentioned another female. I would question him later. Expecting my Luna to burst through the door and start what the humans called a cat fight, I can’t say I was disappointed when she didn’t. After a brief lecture on how lucky Miss McGregor was not to be considered guilty by association, I stood up and looked her in the eye. “You can go,” I announced. She cocked her head on one side, regarding me critically, and I knew it wouldn’t be quite so easy to dismiss someone like her. Not without proceeding to formally reject her. Faith Isla McGregor beat me to it, not even hesitating over my surname and the name of my pack. I couldn’t believe the nerve of that she-wolf. It didn’t seem to cause her much pain,

Lisa’s POVI was pleased to see my brother so happy and even unbent enough to invite Amy to tea. Kayleigh was there, moping a little, but she brightened up when she saw the Luna. Noah was supervising the border guards. Again. I’d pouted a lot until he told me Kane was thinking of appointing another Delta. He swore me to secrecy afterwards, but Amy knew. Of course, she would.“Does this mean there will be two Alphas again?” I asked, when my daughter was paying a visit to the bathroom.“No chance,” she said. “But it’s cool. Kay looks much better.”“Do you think so? I wish she would cheer up.”“She’s been through a lot.”Did the Luna think I didn’t know that?“Have a scone. Fresh from Ray’s bakery.” My visitor hesitated. “Go on. Take one at random. I haven’t poisoned them all,” I joked. To prove that, I selected one with blueberry jam inside and took a small bite. “Mm, delicious. I don’t know why I didn’t think of commissioning your stepfather to bake my daughter’s special cake.”“He’s n

Kane’s POV“If I’ve won, I want you to … ”Amy whispered the rest.“What? No way,” I said, and went on to issue a stern warning.Just for a second there I was tempted to cheat, claim she'd lost. Until –“Be nice,” she hissed, putting emphasis on the second word and fiddling with the knot on her blindfold.I watched her struggle for a while – why didn’t she just lift the whole thing over her head? – before going across to the monitor and calling up the incriminating evidence.“You won’t like it,” I warned her, again. That had been a part of my reply when she said, “Show me the footage of you and Omega Sharon. All of it.”As if there had been other encounters in the past. The truth was laid bare, making her huff with contempt.“Satisfied, Luna?”“I thought as much. She was faking it. On your orders?”“Yeah,” I managed, feeling like I’d just crawled out from under a rock and couldn’t find my way back there.Exposed, just like Amy, yet in a very different way.“She must have told everyone

Amy’s POVIt soon became apparent that Jake was lost to us. I missed Ingrid, too. Was he treating her right? I hoped so.Mom was inconsolable for a whole week and then, in typical Velma fashion, she moved on. That must have been something to do with Ray. One for the homilies, he was. She kept twittering on about my brother making his own way in the world. As far as I was concerned, he’d always been rogue material.I was biding my time to catch Kane off guard and then I would strike. In the nicest possible way, of course. It wasn’t long before we were back to sharing the same bed again. His hands kept straying to my tummy. So much for emergency contraception.I’d been feeling really sick in the mornings, something I’d not experienced much the last time around. Making him wait fit in well with my plan.Coaxing him back to our quarters that afternoon, I had a surprise in store in the form of a new game. This time, my intention was to win, though I allowed him a say in the ‘rules’ we were

Lisa’s POVSomething was off about the atmosphere in the nursery. Dan usually got the blame but this seemed different. Even more unwholesome, if that was the right word to use about my only nephew.I didn’t visit the pups with my daughter any more. She was sensitive and tended to kick off if she knew we were going there.Noah and Kayleigh were closer than ever. I tried not to resent their easy relationship while I had to work at it. Maybe she sensed my annoyance and that was why she clung to the Delta when he came home to us. Or could it be that because I was always around she missed him more?I told myself that was it even though it bugged me. A lot.Picking up Dan’s rattle one day, I felt a surge of power. Static electricity, I thought. It didn’t plug in, that was for sure.He went ape until I gave it back to him.Dora wasn’t like that. She didn’t seem to mind when he took her toys off her. Maybe she was in awe of him – or frightened. I couldn’t be sure and knew better than to menti

  • Alpha Kane's Revenge   Chapter One Hundred and Thirty - Heart To Heart

Amy’s POV The pups were hard work but I became engrossed in what was mainly pandering to their needs. It gave me time to think. I didn’t miss the decisions I had to make, the daily squabbles which had to be sorted between maids and Omegas. They were trivial in the scheme of things. It made me smile to think of the Alpha dealing with petty rows about dirty looks and the more serious allegations of slacking, which tended to be unfounded for the most part. Some of the older servants had heart conditions and they needed more regular breaks. If he reinstated punishment in what had been CC’s room I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night in that same bed. Yet I couldn’t stop him. I had no say and wouldn’t be aware of anything like that given that I was stuck here for the most part, even for meals. He deserves to know. Misha, now’s not a good time. Do it. Or Rhett will tell him. Are you threatening me? My wolf didn’t answer, retreating to sulk, presumably. I knew she was right. The
