All that fluff about how she had been so excited to elope with Matthew Catii was lying nonsense, and why Anna was going to such lengths to make up obvious bullshit right to her face was a mystery, but she could at least answer her final question.

Not with the truth, of course, since even if Beth wanted to reveal it, no one would believe her for a fraction of a second. But she could give an answer that would shut Anna up for the time being and get her off her case. If that was the best she could do for now, she would take it.
