LIAM'S POV

When I arranged for this dinner with the three Alphas that were hell-bent on getting part of my territory and slowly pushing me out of a position of authority, I wasn't sure what my game plan with them should be.

Inviting them was bound to arouse their suspicions, but again, I wasn't ever going to hide in the shadows like them.

There were just five of us at the table, so it broke the silence when Reid's phone buzzed and he looked down at it under the table.

"Is everything okay?" I asked through mindlink.

"Yes, Alpha. Luna and her friend texted. They're still on for Monday."

"I see." For a brief moment, I thought about what it would look like if I hadn't gotten wind of their plans. I would have come home to a deserted home all because my wife couldn't tell me she was unable to cope with my past. Unfortunately for her, she would have to deal with it, because she was not going anywhere.

Laughter brought me back to the present. I forced all thought of my wife to the

"Well, you must be doing something wrong." She sassed, and my heart dropped. This must have been the literal straw that broke her camel's back. I couldn't keep her safe, so this must have reinforced her decision to leave me. "Let me see." She threw the phone at the edge of the bed. "Your days are numbered. We're always watching you, Luna Omega." I cringed at the slur. I could only imagine how she felt reading those words. "Bella Mia..." "Please, not tonight." She put a hand up so I couldn't come closer. "Do you know how many times I've stared at those? Whoever this is genuinely hates me." "Amy..." She swiped a hand across her face to brush away the tears that welled up in her eyes. "I don't think I can live like this. I don't want to keep looking over my shoulder. I'm not sure if I'll genuinely ever feel safe around you

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT

LIAM'S POV There was an old saying. To catch a monkey, you must behave like one. Ordinarily, I paid no mind to such sayings. I was too powerful and too influential to act like a monkey so I could catch one. If I wanted something, I would go after it plainly. But for the sake of my woman, I was willing to play as much games as she wanted. I was only playing this game with her because I knew I was coming out a winner. She cleared her throat. Watching her squirm for an answer is so fucking cute that I want to kiss her right now, but I have a charade to keep up. "You were in there for a long time." "Um... I was in the bathroom..." "For a very long time." I watched her struggle to come up with a decent lie, so I decided to help her out. "I know what you were doing in there." I said seriously, and she stiffened. She was talking to her friend, but she would be getting off easy if I told her that. "You dirty girl, you were touching yourself, weren't you?" Her sigh of relief was sat

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

AMY'S POV Dinner with Maddie and my husband was awkward to say the least. Scratch that, the awkwardness was only from me. The two got on well. So well that it was annoying. "Once, I got tickets to this really trending rave. All her favorite artists were coming. My tickets would have even admitted us to the backstage. She's pretty enough that one of the guys would have taken her home. She declined so she could read. I was blown away." Liam actually sighed in contentment, and I rolled my eyes. This was even before we met. "You have something against hot guys?" Liam asked. "I have nothing against hot guys. My books were just more of a priority then." "She was a nerd." Maddie declared, and they both started laughing at my own expense. I'm going to kill Maddie, I thought to myself for the nth time. She had been deliberately ignoring my eyes all night. I even tried to kick her under the table, but I ended up kicking my husband instead. I thought I would die of embarrassment. I kno

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

LIAM'S POV The downside of owning a company that no one really talked about was how much time you spent sitting in meetings that never really added much value to anything or anyone. Unless it was a deliberation or strategic meeting, I tried as much as possible to be unavailable for it. This particular meeting, though, I was unable to get out of because it was unavoidable. This set of start-up owners had been trying to arrange a meeting with my company for as long as I could remember. I figured that they would be different from all the other startups. I was grossly disappointed. It was my own fault for having expectations. It all boiled down to one thing. "I think I've heard enough." I cut in when I could no longer stand it. "Contact my finance department to see if you can be on board with our policy." "Thank you, President Arlington." He smiled in relief. I waved him off and went back to my office, even more relieved to be out of there. Reid was waiting for me in my office wh

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE

LIAM'S POV Like some sort of unspoken rule between us, we both decided not to talk about the undercurrent of tension between us. I had barely tucked her phone back under the pillow when she emerged from the bathroom in sheer lingerie. There was a glint in her eyes that made me know she had done this deliberately. "You like to play with fire, don't you?" I said, smacking her breast as I passed her to go freshen up myself. "Maybe I just like to be burned." "We will see." She wore a robe over her lingerie when we went down for dinner, which I was grateful for, otherwise I would have been salivating over something else entirely. We talked about everything and anything else but wisely steered clear of personal talk. I know what we were doing, avoiding it wouldn't help us at all, but I did want to enjoy the night with her. We would deal with whatever tomorrow. "Are you done with it?" I loved it when she watched me eat. It made me feel like I was her whole world, like no one else e
