“I still can't believe I have to train with Alpha Kael tonight” I groaned, running my hand through my hair, as I dragged my feet. “Why did you even agree to the stupid duel in the first place”

We turned into another corridor, heading toward our next class.

“Because he’s strong.” she shrugged

I shot her a look. “That’s it? You let him win just because he is strong?”

“Not just because,” she said, glancing at me with a teasing smirk. “If you want to surpass Alphas, you need someone powerful to push you past your limits. And Kael is… well, Kael.”

I frowned. “You make it sound like it's nice”

Ivy chuckled. “I guess it is” then she added “he is really good, you won’t get stronger practicing with someone weaker than your opponent”

She had a point, but that didn’t make me feel better about being stuck with Kael.

I sighed. “You could have at least told me you were planning to lose.”

“I did not plan to lose,” Ivy said. “I knew I would lose”

I blinked, stopping in my tracks. “Wait, wh

Alpha Lance the mysterious alpha. Ivy would be proud of me knowing I remembered all her gossip I joked in my head. His demeanor made me realize why he was referred to as the mysterious alpha. When he said his name, there was no title and no arrogance, just his name. That was all the explanation I needed. “And I guess you are Kael and Zurien’s match” he questioned and I nodded slightly. “You are quite intriguing" he stated. “Me?” I was surprised. He just hummed in response “Welcome, seeing your reputation, I doubt you will need any advice” he was about to leave but I stopped him. “Do you mean the rumours?” I asked and continued without waiting for him to reply “I am not a murderer, I did not kill anyone,” “Don’t worry I will not judge you” he smiled “we are kind of alike” he ended before walking off and I stared at his retreating figure, confused by what he meant. Ivy was right after all. I turned back to the door, turned the key, twisted the doorknob, and then pushed it ope

I was about to leave his office, still thinking about how I was going to make it work, when Professor Lennox stopped me halfway to the door. “Miss Dale” “Yes,” I turned around to meet him. “You know you don't have to make this hard on yourself” he stated and continued “everyone knows about the feud between Kael and Zurien” “Clearly,” I said rolling my eyes, if they knew, why would they want me to be in the middle of the feud? “So I would advise you to try to get at least one of them to come for the mating class, the academy would also recognize that” he explained, and hearing him say that slightly lifted the burden. If getting the two was going to be hard, then trying to convince just one won't be that hard. or so I thought. “Thank you for the advice” I appreciated him and was about to leave again but he stopped me midway. “ And one last thing” “Yeah” “Try not to get in trouble, there are already a lot of eyes on you,” he told me, his tone wasn’t just laced with concern, but

“My muscles are sore” Ivy groaned out as she rolled her arm, holding her shoulder. “I just want to have a cold shower” my voice was weak. We were both tired after the strenuous time we had. Instructor Jose had us train for hours with no rest. If I had complained about Professor Lennox's training, then instructor Jose’s training was the worst. We got to our dorm, and as soon as we opened the door, we stopped in our tracks. The sight in front of us was sickening. Ivy and I stepped into the room and I tried not to throw up at the sight. On my bed was a red liquid that looked like blood, and the metallic smell confirmed that it was actually blood. “Lyra look” Ivy pointed to the wall above my bed, and a word was written there in capital letters, which I also guessed was written with blood considering it was also red. DIE. The word echoed in my mind as I stared at it, they were now breaking into my dorm to threaten me, as though getting death threats through my phone was not enou

The messages had gotten worse, they came at random times, each one more threatening than the last. At first, I deleted them, then I just stopped looking at them altogether. But the words were still haunting me. Regardless of how much I ignored the messages on my phone, the whispers in school were still not helping. I stared at another threat message on my phone, I was tired at this point. “You need to stop looking at those messages, don't let them get to you,” Ivy told me. I sighed, shoving my phone into my bag, as I tugged my cloak tighter around my shoulder. We headed to the training ground for our training lessons. “Did you sleep at all last night?” she asked softly. “A little,” I lied. She gave me a look, “Well you should sleep more, your eye bags are not helping” Before I could reply, the loud, booming voice of our instructor echoed across the training ground “Listen up, everyone” We all turned as Instructor Jose strode to the center, “We’ll be having another duel tod

Ivy had to drag my ass to school. After what happened with Lucy, the school has been quiet, at least, I was not blamed after the live video, but Lucy’s death was still a mystery to everyone, no one knows why she did it. We stepped out of the dorm, as we headed to class. Just as we were about to enter the hallways, a shadow flickered above us, and something fell down really fast with a thud. Ivy and I instinctively jumped back, and on the floor, right in front of us was a dead bird, its neck was twisted at an impossible angle, making it obvious that somebody had killed it and intentionally thrown it down. “What the hell” I cursed out loud “That's creepy” Ivy whispered beside me. We both looked up at the balcony, but there was no one there. “Is this some kind of sick joke?” Ivy was irritated as she stared at the lifeless bird. I had a bad sensation about this, and it gave me a foreboding feeling. We both stepped around the dead bird and walked into the hallway. Walking through

I dropped to my knees trembling, as I stared at the sight before me. Lucy was dead. Her body lay motionless on the ground, as people’s muffled voices filled the air. Ivy was suddenly beside me, grabbing my shoulders, and she shook me slightly. “Lyra, hey, look at me.” I looked up at her. Deep down I just had this guilt eating me up, was I the cause of her death? “It’s not your fault,” Ivy tried to reassure me, as though she had read my thoughts. There were sounds of sirens echoing in the air, indicating that the academy’s medical team and security had arrived. The ambulance had arrived within minutes. Professors and guards pushed through the students, as they got to the scene. Professor Lennox was among them, his face was pale as he told everyone to go to their dorms The crowd began to disperse reluctantly. Ivy and I took it as our cue to leave, as we left, I saw as they covered Lucy’s body with a white sheet. When we got back to our dorm, I sat down on my bed feeling overw
