LOGINI tossed on my plates, poking half-heartedly at my mashed potatoes while Ivy practically inhaled her fries like she hadn’t eaten in days.
The cafeteria was filled with students, and the loud chatters and clinking of cutlery filled the room. “You’ve been frowning at that potato for five minutes,” Ivy said, raising an eyebrow. “I doubt you will be eating that soon, you would have just taken the fries like I suggested” I sighed. “It's not about the food” “I wonder what it is, you look like you plan on murdering the potatoes with your stares” “I am just thinking,” I responded. “About what” Ivy asked while eating her fries. I leaned back into my seat “The stupid match making system” I muttered “I mean I still don't get why we need it, it's weird” Ivy shrugged, sipping her juice. “Relax Lyra, it’s not that deep. Most people don’t even get matched. It’s just some ancient tradition to make the Alphas feel important.” “Exactly my point,” I snapped, stabbing the potato. “Why does everything have to revolve around them? It’s always about the Alphas, it’s like everything is designed to worship them” Ivy leaned in smirking. “Well, maybe because normal people can’t particularly snap trees in half or command packs of wolves without even having to lift a finger” I shot her a look. “You’re not helping.” She laughed. “Relax, Lyra. The system almost never pairs someone who isn’t Alpha blood. The odds are basically zero.” She popped a fry in her mouth “The system is rigged to prioritize power, so only the elites are going to be paired with an Alpha” I stabbed at my potatoes again “It's still unfair, but I hope it works like that” “But it's going to be really nice being matched to an Alpha” Ivy grinned. I groaned. “Come on, doesn't it sound exciting, I mean everyone is looking forward to this” “Exciting?” I repeated incredulously. “Being forced to bond with a stranger who thinks you’re beneath him? Yeah, trilling” I gave her a deadpan look. Before Ivy could respond, a group of students at the next table started whispering, and I could hear fragments of their conversation. “Did you see Alpha Kael during the welcome ceremony” “Who didn't, he was so hot” I heard one of the girls gush out. “And I also heard Alpha Alaric and Alpha Lance are yet to be matched” “I want to see Alpha Zurien, I heard he is also going to be attending this Academy, I hope we both match,” Another girl said dreamily I rolled my eyes at their conversation Ivy beamed beside me “Ah, the Four Alphas,” “The what?” I asked with confusion written on my face. She gasped dramatically. “You seriously don’t know?” “Should I?” “Yes!” She set down her drink, eyes gleaming like she’d been waiting her whole life for this gossip session. “Okay, listen up. Lesson time.” I rolled my eyes but didn’t stop her. “Go on, Professor Ivy.” “First up, Alpha Kael, from the Blackstorm Pack. He is… well, terrifying. Quiet, ruthless, and rumored to have challenged his own father for dominance. He’s basically the guy everyone avoids unless they have a death wish.” I grimaced. “Yeah, I’ve already met him.” She blinked. “You what? When?” “Yesterday,” I said flatly. “He’s exactly as terrifying as you described.” Her jaw dropped. “Details” “It was just a brief moment but I hope we never meet again” I answered her “Okay, moving on,” she said, recovering quickly from her shock. “Then there’s Alpha Alaric. He’s been here two years. Smart, charming, every teacher’s favorite. Too perfect, if you ask me.” “Let me guess, you don't trust perfect” “Exactly.” She grinned. “And Alpha Lance, He Joined last year. Doesn’t talk much, but everyone swears he’s got some dark secret. Total mystery vibe.” I frowned. “That’s… not comforting.” “Oh, it gets better,” she said, holding up a finger. “Lastly, there is Alpha Zurien from BloodEclipse Pack, a total bad boy, rumored to have been engaged once. Hot but definitely trouble.” I stared at her. “You seriously keep a mental file on these people?” She shrugged. “Who doesn't love a good gossip” she took another sip from her juice feeling satisfied, “so in all, there are the most powerful and popular Alphas. Alpha Kael, Alpha Alaric, Alpha Lance, and Alpha Zurien” she counted them on her fingers. Later that evening, we all headed to the main hall where the results from the blood test were going to be announced. The hall was filled with students chatting excitedly, they were really looking forward to the results and so was Ivy, who pulled me into the hall. A teacher stepped onto the stage, holding a clipboard. “The results from the blood test will be announced” Names were being called out, I tried not to listen, but it was hard to ignore the squeals when some girl got matched with the Alphas. Ivy nudged me. “See? Told you it’s all for show.” I was unbothered as I stared blankly at the stage not really paying attention, I just wanted them to be done with it soon. The names kept on rolling out but suddenly the teacher stopped, hesitating to call the next result. She paused, blinking at the clipboard in her hands. “Um… there seems to be a… system error,” she said hesitantly. Her brows knitted together in confusion as she looked back at the principal, uncertain. The principal adjusted her glasses, calm and composed. “Read it anyway.” The teacher nodded nervously and cleared her throat. “Lyra Dale…..” My stomach dropped hearing my name. “….Matched Alphas with …” she paused, double checking the paper. My heart was beating rapidly waiting for what she wanted to say “Alpha Kael Langford…” I blinked. “What….?” The word came out strangled. What did she just say? I felt Ivy’s gaze on me. “Lyra….” But she was interrupted by the teacher “And….” It seems she wasn't finished making me wonder what else she wanted to say. Silence engulfed the hall. “…..Also matched with Alpha Zurien Ashbourne” There was a chorused gasp from the hall. My head was spinning. What the hell was going on? Ivy grabbed my arm. “You…. You got matched with two Alphas, which has literally never happened before. Ever!” I could not speak, my pulse thundered in my ears, and I could hardly breathe. Ivy squeezed my arm, whispering urgently. “Lyra, this is not just weird, it’s dangerous. Alpha Kael and Alpha Zurien are both from rival packs and they have hated each other for years now, they are sworn enemies”LYRA’S POVI remembered that she had been there when Kael had told his grandfather that I was wolfless.I clenched my fist, she was really despicable, trying to use that against me.Everyone looked at me with curious gazes as though they were waiting for me to confirm what Hannah had said.I sighed deeply before telling them.“She is right”Everyone started whispering among themselves once again.“But that does not mean I can’t fight” I boldly told them.My shirt was still bloody as I ignored it, wanting to get back to the fuel.Hannah stepped forward, wiping the blood from her claws like she hadn’t just crossed a line. Then she smiled, a soft, gentle smile; it was deceiving, if you ask me, because I could see through her petty acting.“I think we should stop here,” Hannah said calmly, like she had empathy.“It wouldn’t be fair to continue.”A few warriors nodded immediately.“She doesn’t have a wolf, how will she continue this fight” someone muttered.Hannah turned to them, her expres
LYRA’S POV“You are really good” one of the pack warriors grunted as he dueled with me.“Had a lot of training” I replied ducking in time and spinning my heels as the pack warrior lunged at me again.I was currently at the training ground.Seeing I had nothing to do today, I decided to join the pack warriors train.Kael had introduced me to the head of the pack of warriors. He was the one who brought me here, and I was currently dueling with one of them as the rest stopped whatever they were doing to watch us.He came at me again, swinging his fist and aiming for my ribs.I was quick to respond, as I dropped low and swept his leg from under him.He hit the ground with a grunt, rolling quickly to his feet before charging again. The warriors that had gathered around us had grown silent, their attention fully locked on the duel.I blocked, twisted, and pushed forward, feeling the familiar rush of adrenaline surge through my veins.Remembering what Kael had taught me, I knew it was a mov
LYRA’S POVAs Kael drove back to his pack, everything my mother said kept on ringing in my head. The drive back to the pack house was quiet, and Kael, who had noticed my mood, did not ask me any questions. When we finally pulled into the pack house driveway, Kael parked the car and turned off the engine.I was so lost in thought that I had not noticed. Then I heard him exhale as he asked quietly. “What did she tell you?”I turned to look at me, his voice drawing me away from my thoughts. His hands were still on the steering wheel as he stared at me with a concerned look.“She said…” My voice faltered, and I had to clear my throat. “She said the Silver Wolf killed Zurien’s parents, because of her child”I took a deep breath before I continued. “She thought they were the ones who killed her child. She believed they had taken me from her.”Kael leaned back against his seat, his jaw tightening as his eyes darkened. “That’s worse,” he muttered.“Is it that bad” I thought it would not be b
LYRA’S POVI looked at Kael, surprised.“How…?” I started wanting to ask him how he knew my mother was here, but I refrained because I didn't plan to meet her.“I don’t want to see her,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.Kael then turned to face me.“I looked into why you were crying that day,” he said gently. “You shouldn’t have,” I told him plainly.“I could not ignore it, when I realized it was a family issue, your mum reached out to me, saying she wanted to see you” he explained to me.I shook my head, I did not want to meet her.“Seeing her will only hurt both of us.”Kael then got closer to me and took my hands, holding them gently.“Lyra” he whispered “I understand that you might be hurt, but she is still your mother”“Not my real mother,” I pointed out to him.“Regardless of her not being your birth mother, she is still your mother,” he tried to reason with me.“Her husband hates me, I don’t want to make things difficult for her as it is, so it is better we don’t meet”
LYRA’S POVThe room was still quiet as Kael’s question was directed at Zurien, who replied almost immediately. “Lyra’s theory might be right, and I also think that someone was working behind the scenes and orchestrating everything”My shoulders relaxed a bit at his words, then he spoke again.“But” he continued, “that does not change the fact that the silver wolf killed my parents”Everyone listened as he spoke.“Until there is concrete proof that someone else orchestrated everything,” Zurien added, “the silver wolf remains responsible.”One of the elders nodded slowly.“What if it is the silver wolf manipulating both packs and was using everyone for her own gain” he suggested and most of the elders seemed to agree with him.Well, this took a wrong turn.It seems everyone here is adamant that the silver wolf was the cause of everything, but what if they're right?Kael’s hand still held mine, never leaving them.“We have not concluded anything yet,” he said firmly. “Blaming the silver
LYRA’S POVAs Kael spoke no one dared to say anything, the revelation of me being Zurien’s and Kael’s mate still echoed in everyone’s ears.“And anyone who disrespects her disrespects us,” Kael addedThe elders looked stunned. Some looked offended, but were scared to say anything, while others looked cautious.Kael's gaze swept across the room as if assessing everyone.“I will ask again,” he said calmly, though you could hear his voice being threatening. “Does anyone here have a problem with Lyra being present in this meeting?”There was silence no one said anything or tried to go against KaelI watched as one elder opened his mouth slightly, he hesitated, but then he shut it again. Another one shifted uncomfortably in his chair, but still no one dared to say anything. Finally, the same elder who had spoken earlier cleared his throat.“No,” he said stiffly. “We have no objections.”The others nodded in agreement although some were reluctant, but still agreed.Kael nodded, satisfied wi
