When I reached the border where I was supposed to meet Chase, I smelled him before I saw him.

Salty sea breeze and melted buttery scent galloped my nostrills and I found him already standing there. Waiting for me.

My heart thundered like a raging storm and warmth enveloped my whole being. My mate was eager and excited to meet me. Us.

He didn't seem to have noticed me yet but as I got close to him him, he probably smelled me as well. His head whipped up at my direction and I felt my heart stop.

He was smiling so big and innocent. There was honesty, excitement, affection the way he smiled.

I felt a burn.

My birthmark, located right on my collarbone, a shape of a crescent moon.

It had never reacted, except for that one time when my mother was being dragged by those rogues.

That horrible day imprinted in my mind still as clear as crystal.

It had burned then, for the first and only time, till now, and all hell had broken loose. Yet, I couldn't protect or save my mom.
