CHAPTER 4 | His Hope

Matt was sitting quietly on the bench outside the human's room. He was confused as hell. He expected his Alpha to be angry or worried or anything but not calm. It was like he didn't hear the news properly or it didn't register in his brain that a stranger was on the pack lands. A few years back, some werewolves from a neighboring pack stopped by our pack borders without the Alpha's permission. The Alpha was furious and increased the security on all borders. This is why his calm demeanor right now was so damn out of his character.

Matt had no idea what was going in his Alpha's head. He had been expecting some kind of yelling, instructions to Kira for the security of the pack, and a fully-fledged team to find the identity of the human. It was the standard procedure and the most likely action to be taken by the Alpha. Yet, the Alpha had done none of the above. Something about this human had struck his Alpha and he had no idea what it was. It has been 20 minutes since he went inside the human's room. What could he be doing in an unconscious person's room for so long?

Then there was this human. He had been worrying over her since the moment he found her. He didn't want her to die. He had no idea why but every bit of him wanted to protect that girl at all costs. He secretly hoped that she would wake up soon and complete the shift and live forever. However, he didn't want to get hurt by getting his hopes crushed. So, he told his Alpha that he didn't think she would survive.

He told the same thing to Theo too. However, something in his head kept screaming at him to not say that. He later realized that it was his wolf that kept scratching and screaming for thinking like that about her. I am going mad, he thought. Why would his wolf care for a human girl that he doesn't know? He tried to replay everything that has happened in the last 24 hours to see if something could give him a hint.

The only thing that struck him as unusual besides the unconscious girl was her aura. He felt it and he could still feel it. The presence of his Alpha and the stranger combined produced a different kind of energy in the medical wing. He could feel it humming in the air, slowly cocooning him like a safety blanket. Usually, the presence of powerful beings other than the familiar ones created havoc and a sense of fear. He knew that the human was powerful; he gathered that much from her aura. But why did she feel so familiar? Why was he not at the end of his wits instead of sitting quietly like a damn statue?

The only person who could answer his questions was his Alpha. He glanced sideways when he heard the sound of the opening of the door. Alpha Azraiel was leaving the human's room.

"Matt, meet me at the office in an hour. Appoint two best of our warriors to guard her room." Alpha said calmly.

Matt just bowed his head and left the medical wing. He started walking towards the packhouse slowly. He couldn't spot any change in his Alpha apart from his unusual calmness. One more hour, he thought. One more hour and all his questions will be answered.

Alpha Azraiel's brain has stopped working. He found his mate. He was a trueblood. The rarest of his kind. The truebloods were not born but made. It was a special status given to someone who had fulfilled all the conditions required to be a trueblood. It took years of dedication and deadly experiences to achieve the status of a trueblood. There were only three truebloods alive in the entire world. Their powers were considered beyond the imagination of a simple mind. They were not only stronger, faster and sharper than normal werewolves but they also had divine powers at their disposal. Every trueblood had a set of powers that used the five elements of nature and made them much more powerful than others. It was said that the Moon goddess didn't bless them with mates to keep a balance of power in the werewolf world. Other werewolves were not strong enough to mate with a trueblood and although a trueblood was not born by blood, an offspring of a trueblood was still likely to be much stronger than the other wolves. A trueblood's mate has never been heard of. The other two truebloods alive were also mateless.

Before these three were blessed as truebloods, there was only one true blood. The Alpha of the Black Onyx pack. He was said to be ruthless and dangerous. He slaughtered thousands of werewolves and humans with his divine powers for his amusement. Stories are that he was unable to cope up with the strength of trueblood powers and lost his mind. The Moon goddess, angry with his behavior decided to revoke his trueblood status. No one has seen him after that. Some say he is dead, some say he found a mate and lives on the other side of the world as a human. No one knows the truth.

The biggest problem in front of Azraiel was the protection of his mate. She was bitten. He didn't know if she could complete the shift or not. Even if she completed the shift and turned into a werewolf, there would always be a concern about her safety. The mate of a trueblood was never heard of. She would become a weapon for his enemies to hurt him and his pack. Other Alphas would never want him to produce offspring in fear of his powers.

Azraiel wanted his mate. The Moon goddess knew how much he wanted her. Every werewolf was supposed to find a mate after his or her 18th birthday. Azraiel received the status of trueblood when he was 19. He is 26 now.

All these years he has ruled as an Alpha but a part of him was always missing. His heart would clench painfully whenever he would see couples living happily. He was the protector and savior of the Blue Orchid Pack; their father, their Alpha. He was there to protect everyone and take care of them. He wanted that too. He wanted someone to take care of him like he took care of others. He wanted someone who would give him all his attention and be his for eternity. He longed for the hugs and kisses filled with love from someone. He too wanted love. The thought of a being made especially for you, only for you left a feeling of longing in his heart.

Now that he has found what he has wished for so long, she was bitten. A human has never been able to turn into a werewolf. The chances of his mate being alive were almost zero. It tore at his heart to see her like that. She looked so fragile and weak but her aura told a completely different story. The aura he felt in her room was nothing like he has felt before. That aura gave him hope; a hope that she could complete the shift and live. He was ready to cling to that hope till his last breath.
