Ryker-After returning with the second rogue we captured, I was going to help Leo for a bit, before going to check on Taelin. I figured she was sleeping, so I didn’t want to disturb her. I was about to ask Leo if he had found anything about the first rogue I brought in when Sara came flying down the stairs in a panic.“Alpha!” Sara screamed, her voice higher pitched than normal.“Yes?” Both the Alpha King and I said simultaneously. She stopped when she realized she didn’t specify who she was talking about. Looking between us, she seemed confused for a moment. Fixating her attention on me, she moved to stand in front of me.“It is Taelin. Something is wrong with her.” She rushed out in one breath. Not needing any further explanation, I stepped around her. Taking the stairs two at a time, I ran as quickly as my feet would carry me. I knew I should have checked on my mate earlier. Something had felt wrong when I left her.The others followed after me, but I didn’t stop or slow down to wa
Ryker-It feels like hours have passed, as I stood over Taelin, praying that she would open her eyes and give me one of her amazing smiles. The more time that goes by though, the more I see she is turning into a rogue. She still looked like herself but didn’t at the same time. The dark circles under her eyes have become more prominent, along with the veins that are now appearing all over her body. Even in this state, I still believed her to be the most gorgeous woman I have ever laid eyes on.“Alpha?” I heard Leo’s voice as he returned to the clinic.Looking up, I noticed he had a grave look on his face, and he seemed tired. I knew I was asking a lot out of him. He had been up all night, as had the rest of us. It was noon, and no one was getting the rest that I knew they should be getting.“What is it?” I asked, my hand tightening around Taelin’s as I imagined the worst.“I just confirmed that she is pregnant. I know you want me to save Taelin, but do you want me to try to save the ba
Ryker-“Why don’t you get some food in you and some rest? I will keep an eye on her and let you know if there are any changes. It isn’t doing you or her any good if you aren’t taking care of yourself.” Leo said after a few hours of working in silence.A low rumble reverberated through my chest at his words. My gaze shot up at him, narrowed at him as I glared. I didn’t know which was more ridiculous, the fact that he suggested it or that he thought I would step away from her.Granted, I had to step away for a minute earlier, but that was because if I didn’t, I was sure to urinate all over myself. Other than that, I haven’t left her side since I found her lying on the floor in her bedroom. Sara had suggested the same thing earlier when she had returned to give Leo more supplies.“Or not.” Leo mumbled and returned to his work. After Sara brought down supplies, he ran some more tests. Every hour he tested the baby and the fluid around it. By now the fluid should have at least shown signs
Ryker-Despite everyone trying to calm me down, I didn’t until the next morning. Spending all night in wolf form was exactly what I needed. It has been far too long since I let my wolf out like this. When the sun came up, I knew it was time for me to go inside. I was much calmer now, as I now had my thoughts in order. Making my way to the house Taelin grew up in, I shifted back into my human form.My clothes had been torn because I didn’t take them off before shifting. Entering the house, I felt even calmer. The scent of my mate was all over the house, although it was faint in some areas.I should be grateful we found a cure, even if it is at the expense my mate needs to wait. I knew she would never forgive me if she knew that she was the answer to the cure, but I put my needs above everyone else. She told me she joined this war because she wanted to do something that would make a difference. Now, I just wanted to get dressed and stay at her side until it was time to wake her from all
Taelin-My head was a little fuzzy, like I had just woken from a long nap, but I was still tired. None of that mattered right now as I held Ryker. I knew I asked what happened, but it had been more of a reflex.I remembered exactly what happened. Bits and pieces were a little foggy, but I knew what had happened when I had been asleep. I remember hearing Ryker’s voice and that I was pregnant, along with the fact there was now a cure. The only thing that didn’t make any sense to me, was how was I cured? I had overheard Leo say that the cure wasn’t working on me. So, if the cure hadn’t worked, what did?“Ryker?” I whispered, while my hand slowly rubbed against his back.Instead of answering, he pulled back from me. Swinging my legs over the side, with his help, I sat up so I could look at him. His hands moved to frame my face, with one hand on each side. His lips crushed against mine, taking my breath away. His kiss was like fire, hot and needy. It took a lot of effort for me to break th
Taelin-Still having my mouth devoured by Ryker, I barely registered when he lifted me into his arms. I didn’t realize he was carrying me, until he pulled away so he could watch where he was going. Feeling content in his arms, I leaned my head against his shoulder.Cradled in his arms, I allowed him to carry me up the stairs. We barely made it a few feet on the landing before we were swarmed by everyone. I could feel Ryker’s frustration, but I also knew they were just concerned about me.“How are you feeling, Luna?” Sara was the first to ask her question.“Much better. I owe you an apology for putting you in a difficult position.” Lifting my head, I looked at everyone that had gathered around us.“It was no big deal. You are my Luna and friend. I will always be there for you when you need me.” Sara smiled with delight.“Who would have thought you would be the key to the cure. Is it a lot of pressure?” Ryan was the next to speak.“Did it hurt?” Carter asked next before I had a chance t
Taelin-For the rest of the night, Ryker and I took advantage of every place in the house. We moved from the stairs, to the hall, to the bathroom, to the bed, back to the stairs, the living room, and even the kitchen. Other than my mother’s room, we did a full workup of each other’s bodies. The shower had happened twice. Once standing up in the shower, the next taking a bath. Currently, we are back in my bed, where we just finished our tenth or so round. We would have continued if it weren’t for the fact that I got hit with morning sickness. At least now, it wasn’t nearly as bad as it had been before the infection took over me. It quickly passed, but we decided to stop for now. I was laying on my back, with my head propped against a pillow, as Ryker laid on his side and held me.For a moment I thought he had fallen asleep because he hadn’t moved for a few minutes. I couldn’t complain though because I was enjoying just laying here with him. His head was resting on my chest, while his a
Taelin- “You did what?” I asked the Alpha King incredulously. “I have sent for your friend Theo to be brought here. He is due to arrive at some point today. When we knew we were close to creating a cure, I figured you would want him here. The thing is though, he is in,” The Alpha King paused as he looked over his shoulder at Ryan. “She calls them tanks. Stage three rogues.” Ryan answered the Alpha King’s unspoken question. “Ah, yes. He has entered the third stage of the transformation. I believed you would want to cure him soon. I also thought it would be an effective way to test the cure before we send it out.” The Alpha King finished. When Ryker and I returned to the packhouse, this had not been what I expected. Leo had met us in the clinic, to run some more tests. He also drew a little more blood from me because he needed more. I had told him to take as much as he needed, if it didn’t leave me weak or hurt anything. We both agreed that it was for the best that we only filled o
