Rylan’s POV

As I finished dressing and picked up my phone to leave, there was a knock on the door.

“Yeah, come in,” I said, assuming it was Tiffany.

But when I turned, my eyes narrowed at the unfamiliar woman standing there. She tossed her hair over her shoulder and gave a bright, toothy smile, though it seemed forced and insincere.

“Did you miss your way?” I asked, my tone sharp.

“Certainly not,” she replied, her voice soft and sultry as she closed the distance between us. “I know exactly where I came,” she whispered, her fingers lightly grazing my arm.

“Personal space,” I said, gripping her hand and pushing her back. “Who the hell are you, and how did you get here?” My patience was wearing thin.

“I sent her,” Uncle Dawson said, walking into my room. “There are more of them in the waiting hall.”

I frowned. “I don’t understand. More women? What’s the occasion?”

“Your Luna choosing festival. Since you spend most of your time studying and training, I decided to bring some women to entertain you. You might even find your Luna among them,” he explained.

“Are you serious, Uncle?” I asked, tilting my head in disbelief.

“I knew you’d be excited,” he said, feigning enthusiasm. “So, what do you think of her? Should I send in the next woman? They’re all skilled in martial arts—perfect candidates for a Luna.”

His fake excitement was irritating.

“Look, Uncle, I don’t know what gave you this idea, but I won’t have you flooding my house with prostitutes.”

The word made the woman gasp. “I am no prostitute! I’m the first daughter of Alpha Derek of the Crescent Moon Pack,” she said angrily.

“Yet you seem to lack standards,” I sneered. “Take yourself and the others out of my house. I don’t want to see any of them when I return.”

“How are you going to find the perfect Luna if you’re rude and celibate?” Uncle Dawson asked as I stormed out, ignoring him.

“Any updates?” I mindlinked one of my patrol guards stationed at our border with the BloodMoon Pack. There had been reports of rogues lurking in the area, likely under the orders of Alpha Sir Austin.

“All clear for now,” the guard replied.

“Fine. Stay vigilant and report back by late afternoon,” I instructed, ending the mindlink. I entered my car and drove off.

***

Stepping out of my car in the parking lot, I felt her presence immediately. Her scent lingered in the air, unmistakable. I spun on my heels, my eyes scanning the area until they landed on her crouched between two cars, muttering curses.

“Did you kill someone?” I asked, amused.

“Fuck!” Maya exclaimed, falling to her knees and crawling away before facing me. “Bastard! What the hell are you doing here?” she snapped, her heart pounding audibly in her chest.

“Did you kill someone?” I repeated as she stood, grabbing her phone.

Our eyes locked, and for a moment, time seemed to freeze. She was a perfect little vixen—talkative, sharp-tongued, and audacious, even when she couldn’t defend herself. Her bobbed hair was tied in a knot, and she wore a crop top and bum shorts in winter. Who does that?

“Pervert!” she yelled, pulling out a handkerchief to cover her chest. Her reaction made me chuckle.

“You think you’re that sexy? With those tiny tits?” I teased.

“Despicable men everywhere!” she groaned through gritted teeth. “You and that cunt made me ugly, and you’ll pay dearly for it.”

“Is that so?” I asked, running a hand through my hair. “Did we add the figure too?”

“What figure?”

“Never mind. Why were you hiding? Did you kill someone?”

“What kind of foolish question is that? Do I look like I have blood on my hands?” she retorted, glancing over her shoulder nervously.

“You’re always on the run,” I remarked, leaning against a car.

“And you’re always lurking in the shadows,” she shot back, narrowing her eyes. “Are you stalking me? You’re one of them!” she gasped, stepping back.

“You mean him?” I pointed at the stout man behind her.

She turned, squealed, and darted behind me. “Goodness gracious! What do you want, Stephen? Why are you suddenly everywhere?” she demanded, using me as a shield.

“That’s going to be a long chat,” I said, stepping aside.

“Where are you going?” Maya flitted to stand in front of me.

“No one’s paid for your services yet, Maya. Stop running,” Stephen said before getting into his car and driving off.

“Are you really a stripper?” I asked, smirking.

Her hands trembled as she clenched her fists. “Wait… what’s even wrong with being a stripper?” she asked, then tilted her head toward me.

“Nothing,” I replied nonchalantly, walking away.

“Where the hell do you think you’re going?” she yelled, blocking my path. “What was the meaning of the rubbish you told my mom? Why couldn’t you keep your mouth shut and let me handle her?”

“She deserves to know what her daughter does in the dark,” I replied. “You should be thankful I didn’t mention you’re a cheap stripper.”

“You should’ve told her you’re my manager,” she shot back.

“Manager?” I chuckled as we exited the parking lot. “The person who hired you must be an idiot.”

“Not surprising to hear you call yourself an idiot. You’re one in a million.”

“Why are you following me?” I stopped, turning to face her.

“To lead you to a dark alley and strangle you to death,” she hissed. “You’ve tormented me enough, and I’ll use you as a scapegoat for my other enemies.”

“Do you even know who I am?” I asked, leaning in and inhaling her intoxicating scent before locking eyes with her.

Ryker, my wolf, stirred within me. He hadn’t spoken to me since the night my parents died and we couldn't find our mate. Though I could still transform into him, he no longer communicated. A witch once told me I might reconnect with him after finding my mate. If only my mate knows how much I long to see her.

Maya gasped, her hand flying to her chest as she tried to back away. I grabbed her arms, holding her in place, forcing her to meet my gaze.

“Don’t do that again, please. Let me go!” she cried, her lips quivering.

“Should I show you who I am instead?” I whispered in her ear. Her body trembled, and a tear rolled down her face.

Rylan's POV I woke up to someone planting kisses on my face. “Hey, stop that,” I grunted, wiping my face before opening my eyes and seeing Maya frowning at me. I sat up abruptly. “That’s not what I mean, I didn’t…” I tried to apologize. “Save it,” she said, raising her hand and moving to the edge of the bed to put on her shoes. “Hey,” I moved closer to her, kissing her shoulder. She flinched. “I’m sorry, okay? I almost forgot I was still with you,” I said apologetically. She looked over her shoulder. “Who did you think you were with, then?” she retorted sharply. “No one,” I whispered, and she looked away. “You think you slept with a slut last night, so you didn’t want her taking it personally, right?” she said, standing and facing me. “You’re putting words in my mouth, Maya,” I said, sitting on the edge of the bed. “Can we not fight this morning, please? For pity’s sake, we just had our first night together. Why are you finding fault already? I’m not used to sleeping wi

Rylan's POVI was too preoccupied with Maya to notice the rogues nearby. “Get your eyes off her!" I growled, zipping Maya's dress and pulling her to her feet. We were ambushed."What's going on? Who are these men?" Maya asked, her heart pounding, her body trembling."Hey, look at me." I cupped her face. "I'm here, okay? Relax," I assured her, and she nodded."Give us the girl, and no one gets hurt," said one of the rogues."What? They want me?" Maya cried, clutching my arm. "Don't let them take me! I haven't done anything wrong.""Who sent you?" I asked, trying to stay calm so as not to scare Maya."Hand over the girl, Rylan McKnight!" the rogue leader growled, aiming a gun at us."You’ve got the wrong idea. Come and try to take her if you can," I challenged, cracking my knuckles and locking my gaze on him. The other rogues howled."What are they doing, Rylan?" Rylan’s POV“Maya!” I called out in panic, trying to hold her. “Open your eyes, Maya. Listen to me. I’m right here.”She clutched the blanket, her sweat-soaked dress clinging to her as tears streamed down her cheeks. The scene felt foreign to me; I had never seen anyone hallucinate before.“Let me go, please,” she sobbed, curling up on her side. “Mom… please help me, Mom. I don’t want this.”Her whimper felt like a sharp knife cutting through my heart. I didn’t know what had happened to her to cause such pain, but the sight was unbearable.“Do something!” Ryker yelled, snapping me out of my trance.“I hate you… so much,” she muttered, her breathing uneven.“Maya?” I pulled her up, and her eyes fluttered open. “What just happened to you? Who were you arguing with?”“I’m tired, Rylan,” she whispered, wiping her tears. “I need some rest. Is that too much to ask for?”“I won’t ask any more questions. Just relax, okay?” I said. She lay back on the blanket, facing me.I joined her, staring

Rylan’s POVThe persistent banging on my door jolted me awake. The pain in my head throbbed, blurring my vision. I hated hangovers, yet I couldn't stop myself from drinking too much last night.“Rylan!” Uncle Dawson's voice boomed, the force of his knocks shaking the walls.“Don’t break down my door!” I shouted back, scrambling out of bed. “It’s still early.”“It’s past 10 a.m., and you’re still sleeping!” he barked, pushing past me and entering the room. “Where were you last night? You made us look like fools in front of everyone.”I closed the door, leaning against it and folding my arms across my chest. “That’s what you get for doing things without my consent,” I retorted.“Stubborn brat! Have you found your mate? Who is she, and when are you introducing her to us?” he demanded.I ran my fingers through my hair and sat on the vanity chair.“I found her,” I said.“So, when are we meeting her?”“She’s human,” I blurted out.Uncle Dawson’s

Rylan’s POV“What if you’re lying again?” I said, turning away from her and picking up my phone from the bed.“I’m your sister. You should believe me!” Her tone was filled with disappointment.“I did once, but you broke that trust. I hate lies, Tiffany. You know that.”“You’re not even calling me Tiffster anymore! What has that slut done to you?” she cried, storming out of my room. I shook my head and followed her out.“Today is your birthday,” Uncle Dawson said the moment I reached the garage. He was standing with Beta Beckett.“So?” I tilted my head.“Where are you going? The guests will start arriving soon.”“I didn’t invite anyone, so why would my presence matter to them? They’re your guests. Take care of them,” I said, opening my car door.“Today is the end of the ultimatum, Alpha,” Beta Beckett added, drawing a glare from me. “If you don’t sense your mate, you’ll have no choice but to choose a random Luna.”“I know,” I replied sharply. “The day isn’t over yet, so don’t bother me

Rylan’s POVMaya’s reaction spoiled my mood for the day. I didn’t bother going to class; I went back home instead. I had no idea what I did this time. I thought we had moved past the rape incident. Why was she so pissed at me?“Hey, Rylan,” Tiffany greeted, walking into my room as I sat on the bed. “You came back so early. What happened?” she asked, sitting beside me.“For the last time, Tiffster, did Maya ever bully you?” My question caught her off guard as she narrowed her eyes at me.“Where is that coming from?”“Just answer the damn question!” I snapped, losing my temper. “There’s no way Maya would have bullied you to the extent of ruining your hair. She’s just human, and you’re a wolf from the Brook bloodline. How did she manage to overpower you?” My glare was intense, and she shifted back.“Fine, she didn’t, but I needed to teach her a lesson. Happy now?” she admitted.“How dare you!” I yelled, lifting my hand to hit her.“Don’t you dare!” Uncle Dawson’s voice interrupted as Tif
