Aria:

His scent reached me before he did.

Smoke. Cedar. Danger. And despite myself, I couldn’t help but find myself being intrigued…

I’d been pacing his chamber for almost an hour, telling myself I wasn’t afraid. I should’ve run. I didn’t.

When the door opened, the air shifted, predatory, electric. Dominic stepped in, shirt half-unbuttoned, sleeves rolled to his elbows, eyes darker than I’d ever seen them.

“What are you doing here?”

The words came out rough, almost a growl.

“I was told to stay where you could watch me,” I said angrily. “You didn’t say where. And I believe that it is your guards who brought me here. Trust me when I say, the last thing that I want is to be in your presence, Alpha.”

His jaw flexed. “You’re testing me.”

“Maybe.” I leaned against the edge of his desk, crossing my legs slowly. “Maybe I just don’t like being paraded like a slave. Even worse, being treated like one. I hope that you enjoyed the show. I take that your Luna was furious about it.”

His eyes followed the motion, deliberate, hungry. “The fact that you dared raise a hand on me should have put your head on a stake.”

“What are we? The seventh century? Because as far as I am concerned, this is the twenty-first.” I said, taking a step towards him. “Slaves is something, but having heads on stakes is an old school game, which I believe died a long time ago.”

“You have a mouth on you.” He said, making me scoff. “And it amazes me that you have the guts to be as angry as you are when it is your father who sold you to pay the debt he had. Otherwise, you know, along with your family, you have been dead.”

His word stung, but I held my ground as I looked at him.

“Then tell me to leave or kill me.” I said, crossing my arms over my chest. “Even better, reject me. It would a lot better than having to deal with this shit. And I believe that your Luna is going to be happy seeing as you have caused a scene earlier by defending me against her.”

Silence. Only the sound of his breathing.

When he didn’t answer, I tilted my head. “Thought so.”

He moved before I saw it coming, hand gripping my waist, spinning me against the desk, his body pinning mine. The wood bit into my lower back. I had to bite the inside of my mouth to stop myself from whimpering at his touch.

“Do you know what you’re asking for?” he said, voice low enough to scrape down my spine. “Do you even think that you can tell me what to do? Even worse, do you believe that you can get away with challenging me?”

“I am not challenging you, though it would be tempting. I am telling you to stop pretending.”

His breath hit my cheek. “Pretending what?”

“That you don’t want this. You look for me in the crowd despite me arriving as a slave. That your Luna is jealous of my presence, and yet, you can’t find it in yourself to reject.”

A harsh laugh escaped him. “You have no idea what I want.”

“Then show me.”

The space between us vanished. His mouth crashed against mine, a collision of restraint and fury. Heat shot through me, the kind that burned and begged at once. His fingers slid up my neck, tangling in my hair, pulling until a soft sound broke from my throat.

He swallowed it. Deepened it. Even growled into my mouth against it. He lifted me to sit on his desk, grinding against me as he made me feel his want for me.

My body gave in, despite myself, as my wolf seemed to want this more than I wanted to admit. But forcing myself to focus, I pushed him back. His eyes widened, and I raised my hand, wanting to hit him. He wrapped his hand around mine, holding it midair, forcing me to look him in the eye. His grip firm, but not harsh.

“I let it go the first time, it doesn’t mean that I will again.” He said, making me let out a low growl. He returned it, tightening his grip around my wrist enough to show me that he could hurt me, he was choosing not to.

“Then by all means, show me your worst.” I said darkly.

His eyes flashed gold. But he let my wrist go. “Get out.”

The words hit like ice. But I refused to show him that it affected me. I refused to allow myself to react.

At the door, I paused. “Goodnight, Alpha.”

  • Alpha Salvatore   Chapter 54

Isobel:I saw it in his eyes the moment he heard that I was the one who invited her over. And everyone in the room could feel the tension despite the music playing, despite the clatter, the drinks, and this little entertainment night. The tightness of the air.The sharp flare of his dominance. My son had always worn his emotions like a blade, controlled, lethal, but unmistakable once drawn. And now… I knew very well that he was angry. Good, this would teach him to play such games, and to allow him to have someone to think that they could hold any control over him without my permission.Marcel crossed the hall toward me, his steps measured but furious beneath the surface.“What are you doing?” he asked quietly, the kind of quiet that warned of violence. “Because you have clearly crossed a limit that you shouldn’t have.”I did not look away from Katherine as I answered. “Nothing. I don’t think that I did… but do enlighten me, son.”His jaw tightened. “You invited her. The one person tha

Marcel:“I will call for Lia when the gathering is done.” I told Theia who nodded.“What if you are late, Alpha? Should I let her wait?” She asked, and I shook my head.I didn’t plan on staying late, but her question was still a valid one. And I knew not to let her wait for too long.“No.” I said calmly. “Tell her to go and rest in my room. I will be seeing her when I am back.”“But, Alpha…”“I trust that she is not going to do anything.” I said, stopping Theia.“Alpha, it is not about trust. But if you open that door, then it is not going to be closed easily. Others will talk, and that talking is not going to get you, or her, anywhere that will be in your benefit. Plus, if anything was to happen, she would be the first suspect.” Theia said, looking me in the eye. “I can understand that you want her close, but my job here to protect her as much as I would protect you.”I looked at her and nodded, knowing that she of all people didn’t play the games the others did. She didn’t fight aro

Lia:“What are you planning to wear?”“I mean, it is not like anyone is going to see us. We are going to be here in the harem. To say the least, it might be a headmistress or another consort, but the Alphas won’t catch sight of us.” Another commented. The gathering spread through the consort hall like wildfire.Alphas were coming, powerful ones, territorial ones, men whose presence alone shifted the balance of a room. The girls buzzed with anticipation, excitement sharp and glittering, dresses already being discussed, smiles practiced in mirrors.I sat apart, listening more than watching.I knew that neither consort was going to be seen, nor were they going to be noticed by the men that they wanted seeing them. Unless the Alpha aimed on giving one of them as a ‘gift’ to another, then I doubted that this was going to be the case. Then I felt it.The pause. The shift. One of the consorts’ gazes snagged on my neck.“Well,” she drawled, tilting her head, eyes gleaming, “the Alpha must be

Marcel:The day dragged on longer than it should have.Meetings blurred together, territory reports, supply routes, lingering unrest from the Council’s collapse. I handled it all on instinct, my mind sharp but restless, pulled elsewhere no matter how much discipline I forced onto it.It wasn’t until Vladimir entered my office that the tension finally shifted. “You are going to be late for today’s gathering.”“I doubt that this is why you came here, Vladimir.” I said, and he chuckled, shaking his head at me, clearly amused.“No, it is not.” He said, stepping inside. “But it is one of the things that I need to remind you about. The other packs have gotten distracted from the mating thing that happened between you and Elara, and you abandoning it midway, or they didn’t seem to care enough about it to put any pressure on the subject. But it does not mean that they are going to completely forget. And it is events and gatherings like this one that would keep the alliances.”“I would leave t

Elara:The door had barely closed behind her before the words tore out of me.“You ignored it.” I said, looking at Luna Isobel, my eyes wide in surprise at the fact that she deliberately chose to ignore the disrespect that the bitch chose to throw in my way. “She should have been punished! This shouldn’t have gone unspoken of!”Luna Isobel didn’t look up right away. She adjusted the folds of her dress with infuriating calm, as if nothing of importance had just happened.“She disrespected me, and you always said that when that happened, it meant that the disrespect was thrown at you too!” I pressed, my voice tight. “She walked in here marked, flaunting it, and you chose to smile. You chose to ignore it. You chose to give her more value than she actually should have had!”Only then did Luna Isobel lift her gaze.“Sit,” she said.I didn’t.My hands clenched at my sides. “I have stood by you through everything. Through Marcel’s rebellion, through the council’s fall, through every decision

  • Alpha Salvatore   Chapter 49

Lia:“I will call for you later today.”“I believe that it is going to be a habit then?” I asked, making him smile. He cupped my cheeks and connected his lips with mine, making me smile. I put my hands on his torso, as he deepened the kiss for just one more second before pulling away to look at me.“I would ask you to settle in my room, but I know that we are still too far away for that to happen.” He teased, making my chest swell with an emotion that I didn’t even think could exist. He ran his finger over my jawline before pecking my lips one more time. I took a step back as he opened the door, allowing me to leave.I left quietly, a small smile on my face which I couldn’t deny or hide no matter how hard I tried. My steps were steady, my shoulders relaxed, my breath even. I didn’t feel like I was running from a battlefield or bracing for an attack. And apparently, that difference showed.Theia noticed it immediately as I approached her.She was waiting just outside the corridor, her
