Kate POV
It had been three weeks since Lara had interrupted Maddie and Drake’s date night. As expected, nothing was gained through the man, who Drake had taken captive. Colby had everyone on alert at our end. There was a lot of anticipation surrounding Lara’s next move.
Colby had managed to get a couple shifts in. He definitely felt it when he first shifted and was unprepared for how much missing a quarter of his lung would take out of him. Now that he has gotten used to the variance in his breathing he is adjusting better. He does not have the ability, yet, to go the speed and distance he was used to, but I had no doubt it would come. He was a determined man. And stubborn. The doctor had wanted him to wait but he refused needing to see what restrictions he might encounter.

Kate POV As we all sat there in stunned silence, the echo of the gunshot continued to reverberate throughout the forest. Waiting to see who was hit, I look down in front of me. I see a shocked look on Lara’s face and realize the bullet hit her. I let her fall to the ground, rolling her over and seeing the bullet did not go through her. It was lodged in her body and from the blood gushing out the bullet hole I could tell it was a fatal hit. Hearing another gunshot, I felt Colby throw his body over mine when I saw Lara put her hand up making a fist. “Stop,” she says as she lays there in a pool of her own blood. She had used a gesture with her rogue counterparts that indicated it was over. They all started to retreat and there were no more gunshots heard. Crawling over to Lara, I know there
Maddie POV It had been almost a week since Lara had died. We were conducting her service today. Kate and Colby had graciously transported her body to us and had now joined us for the modest service we would have for Lara. There were flowers, and would be a small gathering of people. Some in particular, wanting to be sure she is really gone such as Samuel and Jasmine. I could not blame anyone for how they felt. Lara had been an evil person and had damaged a lot of lives. Some more permanently than others. Drake came out of his walk-in closet wearing a gorgeous suit. My man cleaned up nicely. Let’s be honest – he looked good in whatever he wore. I was just finding him particularly sexy at this moment. He walked over to me, “How are you holding up?” he asks me raising his h
Maddie POV My hand shook as I held the letter. I had a sense I would get the answers to the questions we all had around Lara, Louise, and myself. Questions that had risen this past week. Why had I reacted so heavily to Louise’s passing but no connection to Lara’s passing? How did Kate, her father, and the Beta fit into all of this? As I sat there with the letter in my hands, Drake reaches over and puts his hand on my leg. “You can wait to read that, Maddie,” he says quietly. Nodding, I look at him, “I know. But I feel it is something I need to do now,” I reply. “What were in the papers?” I ask him before refocusing on the letter. “It looks like Lara left you some money as an inheritance from her. She was a wealthy woman,” he shares with me. I am surprised but then
Kate POV The next morning Colby and I are heading toward the DNA testing site. It is about three hours away from the Golden Moon Pack. We agreed to meet Drake and Maddie there rather than try to pick them up on our way. They were slightly closer. I held my purse close to me. I did not take a purse very often unless I had extra things to carry. Today I had important extra things to carry with me. I had DNA samples from both Louise and Lara. When Louise was murdered, we took a sample of her DNA. At that time, we thought we would need it when we found her twin. Unbeknownst to us of Lara’s existence. When Lara passed, we also took a sample of her DNA. I had spoken with Maddie about the samples being available and asked if she would like to have them tested as well.&nbs
Dr. Langille POV Looking at the faces of the two women in front of me, I knew the information provided today may not change their lives. But it would provide clarity around a long-standing question they had sought answers to. Kate much longer than Maddie, from what I understood. There could be moments of grief upon learning the truth. The offshoots of finding out what your DNA means can be painful or wonderful news. Depending on how and why you are receiving the information. Not wanting to belabour the sharing of results, I clear my throat. “Ladies, as I mentioned there is a mix of results here so I will start with the obvious. Maddie, you, Louise and Lara are triplets,” I say. I see Kate take Maddie’s hand to provide strength to one another. “However, it gets a little complicated,”
Kate POV It has been three months since the DNA test results. Colby and I had gone to Lily’s Luna ceremony only that had ended abruptly with an attempt on her life. She ended up coming home with Colby and I while Jared straightened out the situation at home. Finally, Jared came to get her recognizing they needed each other to fight whatever threat existed for them. Lily had just gone home with Jared. Colby and I were headed back to the Golden Moon Pack. Lily and I had visited a couple times so she could visit with her parents, and I could visit with mine. Maddie had not decided yet whether she wanted to know who her birth father was. We spoke almost every day and have grown closer over the past few months. Each visit home included a visit to see Maddie and Drake. Lily had also
Kate POV Everyone was startled that the woman who interrupted our meeting was none other than Maddie’s mother. Nobody was more shocked than Maddie. She had not decided whether she wanted to see her mother so to have her simply show up and crash the meeting was gut wrenching for her. As Maryse walked in both Colby and Drake moved closer to each of us respectively. There was something in the way she moved that caused everyone to be on edge. Reid stood to ask her what we could do to help her, when she replied, “Sit down, boy, I have important business here and I will not be leaving,” as she pulls up a chair to the table sitting in between Reid and me. Colby pulls me closer to him, mind-linking with me to trade him seats. Not wanting to be obvious nor rude, I ignored his request until he pulled me
Kate POV “What true results?!?” I yell over the commotion of seeing Maryse start to aim the gun directly at my father. I see Drake try to push Maddie to hide under the table. Reid is inching closer to Maryse as Colby is keeping me behind him while also looking for an opportunity to overtake Maryse. Chaos is happening all around us as Maryse laughs at the confusion. As her finger starts to pull the trigger, Reid lunges for Maryse’s arm knocking it down. A bullet is shot from the gun, but everyone is focused on Reid fighting Maryse. He snaps her wrist forcing her to drop the gun. She screams in anger that her mission has failed. As he takes her hands behind her back, she fights against him. Warriors came running into the m
