VICTOR

I never thought of myself as anything special but the world around me and the Goddess had labeled me special from birth. My life wasn't easy. I had witnessed atrocities I never thought were possible and made mistakes that led me to where I was today.

Being an Alpha wasn't my choice. It wasn't my birthright but rather something thrust on me by a depraved man. Now, I stood as the ruler of the rogues. I was their Alpha and their protector. The thing about rogues was, they had no rules or respect. They didn't want to conform to pack life and chose to never obey the laws set by an alpha. So, being their alpha was difficult.

Most were vile, despicable creatures who I wished nothing more than to end. Others were timid and docile, but more close to being human than werewolf. No matter what breed of rogue they were, I had to find them and bring them in line.

I focused my energy and my days on this task alone, traveling all around the globe and expanding my so-called pack. It had never once crossed my mind that I had a mate out there. I had given up on the possibility of having a mate a long time ago. But I should have known...

An alpha always found a mate.

Only, nothing ever came easy for me and this was no different. The woman was intelligent and believed in logic and science. She had also promised herself to another. How would I convince her that she belonged with me? Most of all, how would she react to the truth of the supernatural world?

After a while, I believed I was not destined to have a happy ending. Having a family of my own was never in my cards. And then she came into my life, turning it upside down. And the worst part was, I allowed it because she fascinated me.

From the way she laughed to the way she scowled when something made no sense to her, I found myself caught in her thrall. It somehow had morphed from morbid fascination to endearment, to something more.

I had to admit to myself that she had walked into my life when I needed her most and she didn't realize it. She, single-handedly, saved me from my biggest enemy—myself—and brought life to my otherwise desolate world.

But, in the end, whether she chose to choose me or not was up to the hands of fate. And, personally, fate never dealt me a winning hand so I enjoyed the few short moments I shared with her while preparing myself for the crushing heartbreak which would wreak havoc on my world when I watched her end up with someone who wasn't me.

Only, I should have learned from the past and had more faith in my future, because this time, maybe a happy ending would be in my destiny after all.
