Carmilla

Another man, identical in build to the masked individual, burst into the room. He too wore a mask, and his frantic pace quickened as he approached the lady behind the counter. Dropping to his knees, he cradled her head in his lap and checked for a pulse. The realization of her death was evident; a single bullet wound marred her forehead. The ruthless masked man unleashed a fierce growl, the sound echoing through the inn and causing the wooden structures to shudder. His rage and grief were palpable, mourning the loss of the young woman.

We spent the night on the cold floor, irrespective of our ranks and status, due to the unrest. I shivered, still reeling from shock. Evans and I chose a room to ourselves, likewise the others. Some had five people in a room.
