Reagan’s POV

I watched as Ellie approached the male grizzly. She began stroking its head. It could wake at any time, and Ellie didn’t appear afraid; then again, she wasn’t afraid of it when it was awake. “Don’t worry, Daddy Bear. Your family is safe. They just need you to wake up and protect them.” She said it so gently that I was jealous. I stared in shock as she talked to it like a child.

As she went to walk past me, she looked at my leg. Then she smiled at me. After being called a cripple earlier that day, I felt a little sensitive about it and moved my leg back a little. “That is so cool. It’s amazing what they can do these days,” Ellie told me. I was confused about how women saw my disability differently. “Ellie is so different from Lily,” I told Callan, who hadn’t once stopped panting whenever I looked at Ellie.

“Not everyone thinks so. Some people are disgusted by it. Think I’m not a real man, or that Callan is not a real wolf.” I also know some people think my life is over

Ellie’s POV I wanted to know what Sam was hiding. But I was desperate for a shower. Before I headed upstairs, I asked Sam to get me a drink. As I washed the dirt off my body, I imagined the terrible things she was hiding from me. “Don’t think the worst. This is Sam you’re thinking of,” Kiki assured me. “You speak to her every day. How could she have gotten into that much trouble? Besides, I am confident Reagan wouldn’t let anything happen to her.” She said sloppily. I swear she meets a male wolf, and she has gone soft. But she was right, and I had to give Reagan the benefit of the doubt as he had brought her home safe. It will be something that Sam thinks will upset me. But it will be nothing. She probably knocked over a vase and got scolded by someone. As I got dressed, I questioned whether my pajamas were too revealing. But then I dismissed that idea, as Reagan had already seen me naked. What is more revealing than that? It was after midnight, and I was not used to being up this

Ellie’s POV Reagan was a mess the last time I saw him. But now that he’s awake, I can’t help but notice his strong physique and handsome face. Kiki encouraged my train of thought as she remembered what his wolf looked like. When we were hiding in the bushes. I got up close to him and he smelled good. I could have stayed there for a long time just inhaling his scent. But then I opened my mouth.I don’t understand why I’m so mean to him every time we speak; I’m not mad at him. If anything, I am thankful Sam has someone to look out for her. But then that jealous emotion arises, because it should be me. I know I have a problem and Sam is to blame, but I can’t take it out on her. So I took it out on him.So when Reagan asked me what he had done, I told him the truth. It wasn’t anything he had done. I was just upset that the first shifter I had ever met, a person I had grown to love and called family. She had moved on with her life, and I was still here alone. I felt stupid after my outbur

Reagan’s POV Thankfully, Callan’s legs were slimmer, and his leg slid out of the sock when he shifted. I dragged myself to my prosthetic leg, which was on the ground among my ripped clothes. I smirked as I pushed and pulled the sock over my stump. I finally got to meet the famous Ellie in real life, and all I am wearing is a sock and a prosthetic. I’m sure there is a joke in there somewhere. I rushed over to Sam and Ellie. To see Sam holding her nose and Ellie stroking the bear cub, “You’re going to be okay now that Ellie is here.” She told him. Despite the blades of the trap piercing its leg, the bear was oddly asleep. I looked at my leg and couldn’t help but notice the similarity between what was happening here and what happened to me. The cub’s leg remained intact, whereas mine was immediately severed. For a short distance, I could see a naked Ellie stroking the cub. “There, there. Ellie will not hurt you or your family. Ellie only wants to help.” She told the cub as she rubbed

Reagan’s POV “Ellie wouldn’t burst through her door. I don’t know who that is, but it isn’t Ellie,” Sam said, rushing to find out who it was. But she didn’t get very far when a man wearing a police uniform opened the door separating us. His name tag read ‘John Simpson’. “Oh, thank God you’re here, Sam. Ellie needs these items, and I wouldn’t know where to look for them. I don't even know what some of them are,” he said, handing Sam a phone. Sam took it and began moving around the room, opening drawers and cupboards. Putting everything in a bag. “Where’s Ellie?” I asked John. He must have been with her, and he had left her somewhere. “We had reports that hunters were setting traps in the area,” I nodded in understanding. “It’s one thing to hunt an animal. But it’s another thing to capture an animal and kill it when it has no means to escape or no way to defend itself.” “That’s not hunting,” I told John. The thrill of the chase is the best part about hunting. That is Callan’s favo

Reagan’s POV Discovering that my fated mate was the one who attempted to kill Sam was utterly devastating. There was no way I would accept her. But she was Callan’s last hope of happiness. She was supposed to love him no matter what. He had lost everything that made him strong. The only thing he had left was hope that one day he would find his mate and become a father. Callan and I spent a long time debating whether Lily would be a good mate. Was she worth fighting for? Was she deserving enough to wear his mark? But when she appeared on the porch, throwing a tantrum like a child. Callan conceded she didn’t have the qualities he desired in a mate. Nor did he believe she possessed the qualities he believed a good mother should have. I wholeheartedly agreed with him, as I don’t believe I could forget about what she did to Sam. As I said, the words to reject Lily. I tried to be as civil as I could. I am an Alpha of the royal family. It was more than she deserved, and I couldn’t wait

Sam’s POV A huge grin was on Lily’s face as she walked upstairs. “Guess you needed me, after all?” she sneered when she saw me. Drake and Phillip were behind her.“I didn’t need you at all. Drake did,” I responded. Her smile dropped slightly, but it reappeared when she sniffed the air.“Looking for something. Were you, Samantha?” I bet she could smell the wolfsbane. She knew how important that necklace was to me. I wanted to rip her apart, but that would make me no better than she was. I bet she wiped her ass on it and flushed it down the toilet or something disgusting.“I looked around while I waited for you all. You took so long to get here that I was bored. Now that you’re here, you can open the safe, and I can do my job,” I responded casually. Lily walked past me, calling me a liar. To be fair, she was right. So, I didn’t respond.Lily led the way, followed by Drake, then me, and Phillip. Phillip stood in the doorway as we entered the Alpha’s office. Lily walked straight to the s

Sam’s POV “I can’t believe how you two girls are talking to one another. You used to be such good friends,” Drake said, stepping forward. Lily smiled as she believed it was I who was being scolded. Zola was right, I wasn’t the Samantha everyone once knew—the kind, sweet girl who was eager to please and willing to forgive. I am Sam, an independent and headstrong survivor. I do not answer these people, nor should I be afraid of them. I embraced my inner Sasha, the smart-mouthed woman with whom I have been spending time, a woman who is not afraid to say what is on her mind. “It’s hard to be friends with someone who would stab you in the back to get into your mate’s pants. There is one slut in this vicinity, and I am looking right at her.” I said loudly enough for everyone to hear. Gasps and snickers filled the air, and my calling her out horrified Lily. Drake looked confused by my words, then he had a shocked expression on his face. He puffed as he glared at Lily. He then straighten

Sam’s POV When Xavier told me of the lies Axel had told everyone, I felt sick. It hurt that people believed them. He spun a tale where Garth and I were the villains, and he was the innocent victim of betrayal. That will be why no one questioned why Gunner killed Garth so quickly.Knowing Axel was still after me made me angry; then again, everything about the man’s actions made me angry. I doubt Axel would attempt anything, not while I am here representing the Alpha King. Not while I’m under the protection of Reagan, Phillip, and Xavier. It was Lily I had more concerns about. She was cunning and manipulative, capable of anything. Even murder. After I climbed out of the car, butterflies flew frantically in my stomach. I grabbed Reagan’s hand; a little moral support wouldn’t go amiss.“So far, so good,” I told Zola. Who was as anxious as I was. As we approached the packhouse, the double doors flew open and a group of young girls scurried outside, giggling. I recognized a few of them fro
