Who needs enemies when your best friend is prepared to kill you? Why? Because she wants my alpha mate. Worse yet, my mate wants her. My Gamma paid the ultimate price to help me escape. I can’t let his sacrifice be in vain. I crossed paths with a lone wolf, Ellie. She helped me. Now I hide my identity and live in the human world. I may not be reaching my full potential. But at least I am alive. Ellie and I meet monthly to support one another. This was when we stumbled across an injured Alpha wolf. He doesn’t remember who he is or which pack he belongs to. One thing is for certain, he doesn’t belong around here. So who is he, and how can I get him home? While we wait for him to regain his memory. I find myself responsible for him. We finally got him home. I am forced to reassess my life, confront my demons, and plan my future. A future I never knew I wanted.

“If I cover for you, can you run home and get my spare sneakers?” Garth asked me, smiling and pointing at his feet.
“Go yourself. Why do you need your spares, anyway?” I snapped. Garth knows I’ve missed too many training sessions lately. Xavier, the pack’s head warrior, wouldn’t hesitate to report me if I missed anymore. He’s a stickler for the rules. I’ve dedicated so much time to my Luna duties lately that I am on the brink of failing warrior training. Axel would be so disappointed with me. I want to avoid giving him any excuse to say I’m not ready to be Luna, especially when my ceremony is so close.
Besides that, Garth asking me to run his errands is a joke. Since I’m the future Luna of the Shadow Pack. Garth, the pack’s Gamma, shouldn’t be asking me to do anything. I watched as Garth bent down and pulled the sneaker off his foot, lifting it to my face. He then poked a finger through a hole in the sole. How could he have missed such a large hole when putting on his sneakers?
Now there are plenty of spare clothes and sneakers scattered around the training field, all of which come in a variety of sizes. However, Garth is the tallest member of our pack. He has to have his clothes and footwear custom-made. There are no spares anywhere for him, other than in his suite.
“I wanted to do some extra training today.” He shrugged his shoulders and grinned at me. “I thought you wouldn’t mind running home to get my spares. I know you’re itching to try on your Luna dress again. I’ll buy you the time, and you can pick up my sneakers on your way back.” Garth’s not wrong. Last month, Alpha Drake finally agreed to step down and allow Axel to become Alpha. Because of our wolf pack’s traditions, my Luna ceremony had to wait until the next full moon. I had never dreamed of becoming Luna. But I’d never stand between Zola and her mate. Becoming Luna comes with that union.
Tailors took my measurements and collected detailed information on my dream dress. I had no idea and had to seek help from my long-time best friend, Lily. We have been best friends since we were little and I value her opinion.
Growing up, Lily always dreamed of living in the packhouse. The only way that would happen was if she were mated to the Alpha, Beta, or Gamma. With none of them being her mate, I am pleased that, now, when I am becoming the Shadow Pack’s Luna, she is happy for me. It’s not like I can control who Zola was mated to.
My dress arrived a few days ago. It is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, never mind worn. A pure white princess dress with a sweetheart neckline. The bodice is decorated with crystals that illustrate the different phases of the moon. I have tried it on several times since it arrived. Lily has helped me each time, as I am all fingers and thumbs. But now I feel confident I could do it alone.
I promised myself the next time I wore my ceremonial dress, I would do it alone and with my mom’s moon necklace. My dad gave it to her when they became mates. It makes me emotional whenever I look at the pendant, as I am reminded they are no longer with me. The necklace is so precious to me that I hide it behind a loose skirting board in my suite. I rarely take it out of its box and I never wear it, in case I lose it or shift and snap it.
I know I will have to remove it when it’s time for Axel to mark me. But up to that point. I want to feel like a piece of my parents are with me, celebrating my special moment with me. I nodded my head, accepting Garth’s offer. This errand will allow me the privacy I need to see myself in my complete outfit.
“Hey. Xavier.” Garth yells loudly, calling our head warrior. “Fancy making today’s session interesting?” Xavier walks over to us. Compared to me, he’s huge, but Garth makes him look small. He looks at me and makes a mark on his clipboard, no doubt marking my attendance. “I was telling Samantha here that you’re getting too old to train us. That your glory days are behind you and that Axel should bring in a new head warrior? You know, fresh blood.” What the hell is Garth doing? Is he asking for death by insulting Xavier? No one challenges Xavier. He’s been our head warrior forever, and that is for a reason. Despite his age, Xavier is still the best fighter the pack has. I am sure that if he wanted to, he could even beat Axel. Not that he ever would try. Xavier respects the rules and the pack’s order. Xavier’s face turns red, and I’m sure I see steam coming out of his ears. “Is that so, pup?” Xavier sneers at Garth, poking him in the chest. “Well, challenge accepted. Everyone front and center!” Xavier yelled loudly.
“There in my closet,” Garth whispers as he pushes me away. I don’t know why he whispered we’re all wolves and have exceptional hearing. But I don’t care. He is risking his life for me to have a small amount of joy.
I talked to Zola about Garth on the way to the packhouse. We both agree that we like Garth. Then again, everyone in the pack likes Garth. He’s a dependable and friendly person who has the needs of the people at heart. I became excited as I walked up the porch steps. “I should have the house to myself,” I told Zola, pushing the door open and closing it gently behind me.
But as I closed the door, I could hear noises, grunting and moaning. I took a few steps inside. “Who the hell is that?” I snickered. It was clear it was a couple having sex. The packhouse is where the pack’s leaders live. Axel and I will share the Alpha suite once I am marked. Until then, I have the Luna suite. Jaxon - Axel’s Beta has a suite, and Garth has a suite. It was easy to figure out that the man enjoying himself was Jaxon. “Jaxon must be taking advantage of having the packhouse to himself,” I told Zola. I don’t need to bother him as my dressing room is located a few rooms before his suite. Once I get inside, the room is soundproof. So he won’t be able to hear me and I won’t need to hear him.
So I gently and quietly ascend the stairs, not to disturb the intimate couple. As Jaxon’s grunts grew louder, so did the woman’s moans. “Harder,” the woman screamed. Her voice sounded familiar. But it’s none of my business who Jaxon has sex with. I am not a prude. Both Zola and I are looking forward to having sex for the first time. But I saved my purity for my mate on the day I was marked. This is to everyone’s shock, so I keep it a secret.
Whereas Lily has sex as if her life depended on it. She has shared in great detail the orgasms she has had in the past year, sometimes too much detail. The only thing she didn’t mention was the name of the mystery guy who was helping her reach those peaks.
I am surprised Axel hasn’t forced himself on me. I know he has had many women in the past. But since discovering we were mates, he has been faithful. But all that will change next week. As I reach the top stair, “Faster,” the woman cries out before she screams in pleasure.
I made my way to my dressing room to find the door ajar. Which was strange, as it had been locked when I had left earlier. That’s when I heard moaning coming from my dressing room. Jaxon, the dirty bastard, is fucking someone in my dressing room. This will be the room that will become my nursery when I have pups. Zola growls at his disrespect. My anger rose, and I felt sick. “How dare he!” I shouted at Zola as I pushed open the door. To see the back of a naked man thrust backward and forward into a woman wearing a white dress.
“Fuck yes. Fuck.” The voice I recognized screamed out. It belongs to Lily. “Fuck Axel, I’m coming.” She yells as she climaxes. But as she reaches her high, the bottom falls out of my world. My mate is screwing another woman. Not a random woman, either. My best friend, a person I shared all of my hopes and dreams with.
Axel then grunted loudly as he continued to thrust backward and forward. Then he slows as he leans forward and sniffs the dress Lily is wearing. That’s when I realized what Lily was wearing. My Luna dress. Zola wants to shift and attack. But against Axel, she wouldn’t stand a chance, so I forced her back.
I am in a state of shock and disgust. My brain shuts down, but my body goes into autopilot mode. The next thing I knew, I clapped my hands. This grabs the attention of them both. The look on Axel’s face tells me he was shocked to see me. “That was quite a performance. Please don’t let me interrupt.” I spit out in disgust as I stormed out of my dressing room.
Not a chance do I ever want to see either of them again.
Reagan’s POV Ellie stroked the bunny the whole way to the palace. As we reached the palace gates, they were open, and it was unguarded. I drove straight inside, unchecked, which was worrying. As I drove toward the palace itself, I could see a huge crowd of people surrounded by the royal guards. “Thank the goddess, there, here and safe,” I said before I heard crying coming from the crowd. It was so loud I heard it even though I was inside the car. “What’s going on here?” I yelled. Kevin approached me. “Why isn’t there anyone at the gate?” I yelled at him. “You are leaving the palace open to attack.” Kevin snickered at me. “Reagan. The Alpha King brought all these rogues back. If there is any danger of an attack. It will be from this filthy lot.” He spat on the ground. “That’s why the Wolf Council has dragged him into an emergency meeting. To discuss the consequences of his actions. Until further notice, the royal guard only takes answers from Head Council Member, Lincoln.” “Wh
Reagan’s POV My phone died not long after leaving South View. I wanted to stop to buy a charging cable, but Ellie insisted that we didn’t stop. That we get to Sam as quickly as possible, only stopping for fuel along the way and paying at the pump to avoid queues. Ellie spoke to me about how Sam had been since she had left after her rescue. I felt awful about my part in making her feel that way. Sam deserved better. She then told me how Sam came to be at the rogue camp. “It was her choice to stay, and I had to let her. Trouble always seems to find her; I should have known.” She confessed. I didn’t necessarily agree with her, but Ellie had known Sam longer than I had. After that conversation, Ellie sat in silence, nervously biting her nails. I prayed to the goddess repeatedly. Praying that Caspian and Hawk snapped out of their slump, got their act together, and rescued their mate. If they didn’t, I feared Hawk would go permanently dormant. Leaving Caspian alone to confront the real
Reagan’s POV “Your plan is stupid. You’re an idiot if you think this will win Ellie over. She will see right through it.” Callan informed me. “I have to try Callan. I’m desperate. If not for my sake, for Caspian’s,” I told him as I removed my prosthesis and my clothes. Placing them safely in the car. I then shifted so that Callan could get himself into the woods. He found a comfortable spot behind a bush. It had a good view, and it wasn’t long before I heard sirens. Men with torches came racing through the woods shouting. Not long afterward, she appeared. Using her sense of smell, she found Callan quickly. “Was all of this his idea, Callan? It was an awful plan,” Ellie asked Callan, who whimpered and sniffed her, causing her to snicker. “She likes me a hell of a lot better than she likes you,” Callan mocked. I was jealous because he was right; he had Ellie laughing. He even licked her, and she enjoyed it. “I hate you,” I told Callan, who didn’t care as he was getting pett
Reagan’s POV Desperate times call for desperate measures, and right now I am desperate. Caspian is a mess. He didn’t leave his suite for days, constantly reminding himself of what he had lost and wallowing in self-pity and acting as if his life were over. Caspian knew he shouldn’t have lied to Sam for so long. He had plenty of chances to come clean and tell her the truth, but he didn’t. Even leading up to the mating ceremony. He was still lying to her. Perhaps I should have said something, but was it my place? Now, Caspian can’t forgive himself. Hawk won’t forgive him either and refuses to speak to Caspian. Hawk has sunk so deep into himself that he’s practically dormant, which is now an enormous problem. With Hawk being absent. The head of the Wolf Council, Lincoln, has raised concerns about whether Caspian is fit to be the reigning Alpha King. A vote about his concerns will be held next week. As annoyed as I am about the matter, I know Lincoln has the best interests of t
Ellie’s POV It’s been two weeks since I returned home with Sam. It took a while, but eventually she told me everything that had happened to her at the palace. As for Evelyn, she got what she deserved. I had to walk away frequently because I would get angry at how she was treated. As for her mate, he doesn’t deserve her. Then there is Reagan. Sam saved his life, she cared for him, and helped when he was at his most vulnerable. He chose to deceive her as much as Caspian did. Sadly, though, Sam wasn’t the same. Her spirit and liveliness were gone. They destroyed her.Even on our wolf runs, it was as if she were going through the motions. She was just a shadow of her former self. Kiki and I were both concerned about her. We were worried so much that I went to William for advice.“Has something happened to her recently? It sounds like she is depressed,” William said. I couldn’t tell him anything that would result in him asking too many questions. “If Sam is willing to come to me and discu
Reagan’s POV I was furious to learn about Sunak’s private meeting with Caspian. I nearly destroyed his office door with anger when I got there. My anger reached a whole new level when I saw Caspian kneeling at Sunak’s feet. “You,” I yelled at Sunak. It was so loud that I think the entire palace heard me. Without hesitation and before he could move, I raced over to Sunak and grabbed hold of him by his throat. Callan wanted his aura to force a confession from Sunak, but told him he didn’t need to, as I would deal with this situation. I had pieced it all together on my way here.Sunak knew I was on my way to see him when I was attacked. Sunak was the one who rushed through Caspian’s coronation. He used Evelyn to manipulate Caspian. Knowing his aggressive nature, Sunak was the one who left Sam and Sasha with him. Sunak may not have been the one who killed Sasha’s baby, but he let it happen. If Evelyn became pregnant with Caspian’s child. It’s plausible that he would try to murder Caspia
