"Come on, let's get your things," Jasher said, pushing past me and waiting by my bedroom door. "Come on, Bernice."

Honestly, I didn't want to be around either of them. But in a situation like this, what choice did I have?

I entered the room, and Jasher followed me in. He grabbed the bag I'd packed by the bed. Our eyes met briefly, but I looked away and rushed out.

After we left the dorm, we walked side by side, a bit of distance between us.

"You okay?" Jasher finally asked, breaking the silence.

Should I keep staying silent? I feel bad seeing Jasher looking so gloomy. Is he acting like this because of our argument?

If I keep ignoring him, things will only get worse.

Deep down, I know Jasher is trying hard to change, especially when it comes to me. Am I really going to be stubborn and pretend he doesn't matter?

"Boys, go on a flag hunt on the east side and find as many blue flags as you can! For the girls in the north, look for red flags. Remember, teamwork is key!"Alpha Jace's announcement was met with cheers and excitement. Well, everyone except me.I'd never participated in anything like this before. The rules were simple: One team of five people would work together to find flags. They were competing against other groups, but violence was not allowed.Since there were only four of us in my dorm, we were short one person.Searching for flags in this kind of weather wasn't a great idea. The sky was overcast, and thunder rumbled like an old man coughing. I had a feeling lightning would strike soon.It was great!"Find as many flags as possible and return to camp!" Remember, safety first, and look out for each other. We won't tolerate cheating or dirty competition. Understood?!" Alpha Jace shouted.Everyone responded in unison, "Understood, Alpha!""Now, get ready!"Once the whistle blew, al

I took a step back; I didn't want a confrontation. Not after I slammed Shirley into a wall once before. I doubted she'd let that slide.Suddenly, the wind picked up, and they surrounded me. Shirley wore a smug smile that said this wasn't over."Well, well, well... looks like our little anomaly is out for a stroll," Shirley sneered. "Trying to run away?""I'm not looking for trouble," I replied.Shirley crossed her arms. "Did you forget what you did to me before? Wasn't that you looking for trouble?""You pushed me to it."The blonde stepped forward. "Don't make excuses. I know you're only acting brave because Jasher's protecting you. Well, I'm not scared of him!"Shirley pushed my shoulder with one hand, intending to intimidate me and force me to back away step by step."What did you give Jasher, huh? Your body?" She laughed mockingly."You know what? Jasher's been sleeping with she-wolves ever since his mate died!""Oh, were you one of them?" I snapped.Shirley froze, her eyes wide.

I got off the bus and looked around at the vast forested area. Rows of tents were neatly divided between the boys' and girls' areas. Students were gathered in small groups here and there. Not far from the tents stood a large, two-story wooden building that looked like a cottage and was super cool."Bernice!"That unmistakable voice called out. I turned and smiled widely at Genesis. He immediately threw his arms around me."I missed you so much!" he said brightly.Behind us, Jasher and Zach cleared their throats sharply and in unison.Thankfully, the bus ride had been uneventful. We kept our distance; I sat alone near the front, across from Luna Dawn.I glanced at Jasher, who had already joined his dormmates. Zach did the same. Meanwhile, Genesis took my bag, looped his arm through mine, and led me toward the girls' tents."This place is amazing, Genesis," I said in awe."You think so?" Our pack gathers here often, and some wedd

I glanced at the glass bookshelf, where all the books were neatly arranged. Honestly... I was curious about the book on King Max. Miss Olive seemed rushed, hastily stuffing her things into her bag before standing up quickly."Bernice, could you lock up the library for me? You can leave the key with Luna Hester," she asked.I nodded. "All right, Miss.""Well then, see you later. Have fun at your initiation, okay?"With those parting words, Miss Olive left the library, leaving me alone inside. I stood still momentarily, my gaze again drawn to the glass bookshelf—its key still hanging on the lock.Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt to read the book for a bit, right?I quickly went to the glass cabinet and carefully took out the old-looking book. I slipped it into my jacket. No one saw it, and Miss Olive probably didn't even realize it was there. After locking the cabinet, I left the library and closed the door. My footsteps echoed down

  • Alpha's Bite: From Victim to Vengeance   43. JASHER: Finally the Detention End!

Two days of waiting felt like forever.Bernice is ignoring me altogether. It's as if she's disappeared. I've been trying to find her, but she's going out of her way to avoid me. I can't keep chasing after her like this; I might get detention again.Or worse, the school might start watching my every move. This is driving me crazy!I hadn't seen Bernice or her friends in the cafeteria this past two days. Once all the students had left for the initiation event, the academy felt like a haunted building.Despite the emptiness, I hadn't run into Bernice at all."Your detention time is up," said Alpha Jace, patting my shoulder and smiling slightly. "Stay out of trouble, okay?""Yes, Alpha." I nodded in resignation."Are you joining the initiation event?"I nodded again. "Yeah, with Zachary and Bernice. They're the only ones who haven't been yet, right?""Hm... Ah, yes, you're right. Just make sure not to stir up any caus
