#Chapter 13 (Deonna) Bad News

He had to pull himself back together; he couldn’t allow her to see his weakness. He straightened his shoulders and narrowed his eyes at her.

“Why are you out of the garden in the first place, slave?” He asked, keeping his voice steady.

She frowned; she almost appeared shocked at his sudden outburst.

“I had to use the restroom,” she told him.

She kept her voice low as to not alert the maids, which Marlon appreciated.

“I heard how you spoke to your butler, and I hear how you speak to your own flesh and blood. If you can’t show them respect, how do you expect them to show you any respect in return?” She asked.

Her forwardness was startling to him; he’s never had a slave speak to him in such an ill manner before.

“Pardon?” He asked, his voice wavering slightly.

“They will never show you respect if you don’t show them respect. Same with anybody really,” she repeated calmly.

“I don’t need them to respect me… I need to do what as I order,” Marlon told her, deepening his tone.
