The heat under my skin was a slow burn, sharper than the scent of rain clinging to the Havencrest air. I should have been dead to the world after the moon-rite in Silverwood, but Jessa’s voice wouldn't stop echoing in my skull.

"Ever really scented a true Alpha, Mars?" Her laugh had been sharp, fueled by too much nectar. "You’re twenty-six. A prime Omega who’s never even shifted with a partner. Stop being a martyr. If you won't find a mate, at least find a thrill."

I lay across the furs of my bed at the Pacific Crest Resort, the room spinning in slow, nauseating circles. I was the pack outlier—the wolf who had never known a touch, a kiss, or a knot. Usually, my inner beast stayed on a short leash, but the fermented moonlight I’d downed earlier had snapped the collar.

My throat felt lined with silver dust. I sat up, shadows dancing against the walls. With trembling fingers, I grabbed my slate. The runes on the screen blurred into golden smudges as I scrolled.

Grant Walker.

The Alpha of Westline. My superior. A man who only knew me as the person filing his pack ledgers.

I typed with a boldness that didn't belong to me: Stop holding out. Send a scout to my quarters or send the scrolls. I’m in the VTN ROOM.

I added a flame sigil and hit send.

The silence that followed was heavy, pressing against my eardrums. I slumped back, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. I expected a reprimand. A dead link. A cold realization of my own professional suicide.

Instead, the heavy oak door shuddered under a single, authoritative knock.

I stumbled up, thinking Jessa was playing a prank. But when the timber swung wide, the air was sucked out of the lungs.

Grant Walker stood there, a predatory silhouette against the torch-lit hall.

He’d just come from the ritual springs. Dark hair plastered to his forehead, droplets of water tracing the corded muscles of his chest. His ceremonial robe hung open, revealing the jagged, blackened ink of pack marks disappearing into the low-slung fabric at his hips. He smelled of cedar, ozone, and a dominant musk that turned my knees to water.

His eyes weren't their usual icy blue; they were glowing a molten, lupine gold.

"You summoned an Alpha, Mars?" His voice was a low vibration that settled deep in my bones.

"Mr. Walker? I... the message was..."

Before the lie could leave my lips, his hand—massive and scarred—cupped the back of my neck. He pulled me into his space, and the hallway vanished.

He tasted of dark honey and forbidden power. It wasn't a kiss; it was a claim.

A moment later, the rough furs of the bed were beneath me. His heavy frame pinned me down, my light tunic a pale ghost against his dark silhouette. Grant was intoxicated—not just by drink, but by the lunar cycle. There was no other reason the Alpha of Walker Ridge would be in a subordinate's room.

He wouldn’t remember this. He didn't even remember we’d run in the same juvenile pack ten years ago, or that I’d spent a year watching his back in the training pits. To him, I was a ghost in a suit.

A single night, my inner wolf howled in surrender. I reached up, tangling my fingers in his damp hair, and pulled the monster down to meet me.

Mars Reed POV"My wolf locks its gaze on Quincy as his male tongue affectionately calls Alpha Grant’s father by his raw first name, Jonathan," I growl softly, the vibrations hitting my chest as I sit in the wheelchair. That specific casual tone immediately suggests to my inner beast that there might be a much deeper history circulating between their high-ranking bloodlines.“So, your lineage and Grant’s dad are tightly bonded, then?” I inquire, my male voice thick with a sudden hint of raw territorial curiosity.“Oh, my own father and Alpha Jonathan have been sworn pack brothers for decades,” Quincy explains with a sharp, warm smile, showing his fangs in a friendly gesture. “My boots used to run wild all over the Walker Ridge Estate all the time when my wolf was just a cub. I actually haven't met Alpha Grant a whole lot during our younger seasons, though. His father usually kept his frame away at the elite northern academies here in the States, while my own body grew up studying the an

Mars Reed POV“My breath hitches as Jessa Moore lets out a heavy, frustrated growl, her hands dropping flat against the iron backrest of my wheelchair under the moonlight,” I mutter, my voice tight with an aching weight. “Mars, your tongue says Grant Walker is a completely stand-up alpha wolf, but why on earth did his soul have to get stuck with dominant parents like Jonathan and Amanda? Your hearts are so intensely locked in the pack bond, and yet this disaster…”“The Walker lineage looks down on my outcast scent, no surprise there to my mind,” I say with stark, raw self-awareness, my fingers gripping the armrests. My inner wolf knew all too well why Grant’s parents utterly despised my male body—simply because their prestigious, ancient family name and territory clout were miles out of reach for a low-ranking lone wolf who used to run wild in the border brush. And, in all pack fairness, their elite judgment was true. But that reality didn't give their high-ranking claws the right to

Mars Reed POV"Brooke Caldwell always possesses a sickening knack for staging wild pack drama, and this madness is undoubtedly her pathetic way of dodging the silver execution bullet," Jeffrey Vance growls, his large shoulders dropping as he leans his weight heavily against the iron bedpost.Grant Walker does not buy her performance for a single second, his dark alpha eyes narrowing into hard slits. To be completely fair, as a dominant supreme leader who moves literal mountains in the territory world, sharp predatory wits are an absolute necessity for his survival. Grant stays perpetually on his toes around every single wolf in the West Coast circuit, except his inner wolf drops all its guards the exact second his nose catches my specific lone wolf scent."God, my own mind was such a massive, blind fool back in the day," Jeffrey groans out loud, his knuckles rubbing his bandaged forehead as if he wishes his boots could time travel back to the old den and rip some raw sense into his yo

Mars Reed POV"My acting chops with Victor Lang were completely terrible back in Silverwood, yet your own alpha instincts played right along with barely a single reaction," I growl softly, my chest tightening as my fingers squeeze the damp washcloth tight over the basin. That absolute lack of fury from a dominant wolf was a total giveaway to his sharp mind. The only plausible explanation circulating inside my brain was that his wolf knew the raw truth all along. He just pretended to be completely blind to my lies.Grant Walker looks up from his pillow, his dark alpha gaze locking onto my male frame as my silhouette reflects deep inside his pupils. After a long, heavy silence between our breaths, he speaks in a raspy, low rumble from his throat, "If your heart does not want my mind to know the truth, Mars, then my soul does not know a single thing."His wolf had always been exactly like that with my scent. Because Grant knew all too well that any abrupt, aggressive move on his part wou

Mars Reed POV“My hands slam the white double doors of the VTN ROOM open, the heavy scent of copper and fresh alpha blood instantly rushing down my throat as Grant Walker’s weak voice reaches my ears,” I growl, pushing my wheels frantically across the clean tile floor toward the pack mattress.“My wolf needs to see Mars… where the fuck is Mars Reed?” Grant groans, his large male chest heaving against the medical straps as his eyelids flutter open.“My body is right here, Grant, my claws are right here beside your skin!” I bark out, my rough male voice cracking with thick emotion as my hands propel the wheelchair straight to the iron frame of his bed.Grant struggles fiercely to turn his scarred face toward my position, and it is only upon catching my specific lone wolf scent that his dominant shoulders finally relax, the intense tension in his dark brow dissolving into immediate relief. He tries to reach out his thick arm to touch my jaw, but the heavy tubes tethered to his veins rest

Jessa Moore POV“The male driver definitely catches sight of my face through the glass, but the bastard turns his head with lightning speed to pretend he knows nothing about my presence!” I growl, my knuckles cracking as I glare right through the windshield at Jeffrey Vance’s tight jawline.“Could your boots just step on the gas pedal please? Thank you so much!” I bark at the cabbie who brought me to this foreign mountain pass.As the local pack taxi pulls up hard to the front entrance of the private sanctuary, my body is already poised to crash straight inside the iron perimeter, not even waiting for the vehicle door to swing completely open before my boots hit the dirt. I am actively blocking the narrow stone way with my frame, ensuring Jeffrey’s car cannot get through the iron gates either!“Your claws really cannot come in here, woman. This facility is private territory belonging to the supreme lineage, and trespassing on alpha ground is against the pack law!” The security guard a

When I finally blinked my eyes open in the early dawn, the heavy weight of an arm was still draped across my chest, pinning me to the mattress.
