CELESTE'S POV

Do you know that feeling when you are looking forward to something, yet you are freaking out about that same thing to the point where you wish for it not to happen? Two different conflicting emotions all at once?

Yes. That was exactly what I felt when I closed the door behind Sam and was left alone in my room with the moonstone tucked away in my pocket. The worst that could happen would be for the spell not to work on Malthus as we planned, and then he would have his hand on the Moonstone.

Wasn't that the end for us? That thought alone was enough to scare whatever confidence I had developed out of my body. But thankfully, it didn't stop me from proceeding with my course of action. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that I couldn't escape Sam.

If he had been brave and helpful, had a sleepless night just to come up with a solution, the least I could do was to suck up my damn emotions and do what was required of me.

That little motivation was enough to fuel my

KAIDEN'S POVThe night has been an interesting one. I spent it thinking about Celeste and what I had been doing to her for so long. The possibility of her being innocent was great, and no matter how big of an ass I thought I was, the part of my brain that makes judgments for "accusing the wrong person " still worked perfectly fine, and it weighed down on my heart throughout the night. The guilt was immaculate. It was like a wake-up call for me. I had to face reality for the first time without the veil of revenge that had been covering my sight all these years, and let me tell you, it's not a beautiful sight to see now. The minute the first ray of sun shone through the sky, I was up from my bed, journal at hand, ready to convey my findings to the rest of my council. I needed to do something about it at least. I went straight to my beta's wing first, knocked on his door, and waited. A job I would have, on a usual day, sent a servant to do. He took his time before answering the door,

SAM'S POVAimlessly, I wandered, trying so hard to ease the worry that had been weighing down my heart for the past few days. If I had known what to do to get rid of it, I would have, without a doubt, done it. But instead, I suppressed it, tried to act like it was not there at all, like it was insignificant, and now, it has finally caught up with me. I wanted to scream, throw things around, just anything to ease the cloudiness, but nothing seemed to work, and with each passing second, my tolerance level became lower. While I knew we had no other option but to follow up with the plan we made, the guilt of putting Celeste's life at risk was hefty. It kept eating me up from the inside. If there were a way I could do everything on my own without getting her involved, I would have worked it out alone. But she has the powers; she was the only one who could end this. My pacing came to a halt when my door was knocked on. At first, I thought it might be a maid coming to drop off dinner, see

KAIDEN'S POV"Unfortunately, there was no sign of them whatsoever; it seemed they must have come with a vehicle, there is no other explanation for how they were able to escape our guards in just a few hours after they had been sighted." "Any new person coming into the pack from now henceforth must seek approval from me," I responded. I do not want to listen to him blab about what could have been. I was already aggravated after what they did, and now he is telling me what I have already suspected from the very beginning."That will be conveyed to the border guards and put into action immediately." He bowed curtly. "Your Highness, if you have time to spare, I think this will be the best time to go and see the witches. They have been pressing for you to come down there as there is a matter, something they have foreseen and would love to share with you." "Did I not tell you to meet them on my behalf?" I squinted my eyes at him questionably. I did tell him to represent me, that much I co

SAM'S POVThe trip back to the pack was done in silence, both of us fully engrossed in our different thoughts, which traced back to the same worry. We are both worried about the probability of our plan turning the situation into a much more disaster than we were already battling. But neither of us was confident enough to let our fears out. I silently held the door open for Celeste to walk in first as we reached her room. Only when she stepped in did she let her shoulders slump down with the weight of worry she was carrying. It was as if she had been putting up a facade just for the sake of the pack members around. And now that she was finally in her space, everything was catching up to her. "Are you okay?" I blurted the question at the tip of my tongue before I could stop myself. Even though I knew she was far from okay but still, a part of me still wanted to hear her voice assuring me that she was fine. I knew she wasn't. I wasn't too. No one who knew about Killian's situation wou

SAM'S POV"Are you sure this is going to work?" Celeste asked. Though her question was quite clear, I knew from her tone that it wasn't what she wanted to know. She wanted me to assure her if we are actually onto the right path, which in all honesty is something I couldn't do because even I was just tiptoeing on the path. But I didn't tell her that. She was already nervous as it was; I didn't need to add to that. Instead, I said."The book gave a vivid explanation of how to perform the spell. With the help of the book, I am eighty percent sure you are going to be able to pull it off. It did mention that only people with Lunaris power could cast a spell on the moonstone. And you are one, right?" I cranked my head to stare at her face as she responded.
