KILLIAN’S POV

“Elders and warriors alike, I acknowledge you all!” My voice boomed across the entire space, echoing at the far end that was vacant.

An uproar of murmurs in response to the greeting chimed across the room. I waited patiently for everyone to calm down, then I moved on. “As we all know, the pack had known no peace for the past couple of months until recently.” Again, an uproar of agreement sounded.

“The pack we had taken so long to build was slowly being eaten up by evil from the inside out. A monster showed up and placed its curse on our pack. It attacked my household, possessed me for a month, and made me do unimaginable things. It has been a tough battle, but now we have won.”

I had so much to say, but I waited for the uproar which I knew was definitely coming. After about five minutes of receiving praises from everyone around, the whole place was taken over by silence again. I cleared my throat and continued.

“I wasn’t in control of myself for months. I would have kill

CELESTE'S POVOne month later. Things were coming back to normal; the pacing was slow, but they were, nonetheless. The one swift war with Malthus took a lot from the pack more than most of us cared to admit. The aftermath of the war was brutal. Everything was in ruin, either physically or mentally, and it took time for everyone to be back to normal, more time than again, than any of us cared to admit. Of everyone, I think I was the last to come to terms with the fact that Malthus was actually gone and would not appear out of nowhere all of a sudden. It wasn't easy to make myself trust that. It took a week of sleepless nights and prep talks from Killian, who was always beside me, no matter the situation. But with time, I learned to actually believe in our success and embrace the “peaceful aftermath of every war,” as Killian called it. Today, however, was one of those troubling nights that left me doubting in myself and the entirety of my reality. I woke up with a jolt, sweat slidi

CELESTE’S POVIt felt surreal. I had to wake up each day without any trouble waiting, without any mystery, with no fatality waiting to unfold, and no fear of uncertainty about what the future might hold. Everything was in place, and that should have calmed me down, you would think. It didn’t.Every day, I woke up with this inkling feeling that something would happen. Like I was in a sort of dream and everything would wipe away in due time, and I would be back in that throne room, trying to get Malthus off me.It was dreadful and was slowly taking over my moment of joy. I caught myself more than once pinching my skin or trying to feel the texture of anything around me so I would be able to tell that I actually was back in my room, with Killian staring at my father’s book, casually leaning his entire weight on his hand as his eyes skimmed gradually from one end of the paper to another.“He really did want you to solve the puzzle yourself.” Killian’s sudden sentence left me perplexed, as

KILLIAN’S POVThree consecutive days!It took Celeste three good days to recover. And all I did throughout the 72 hours of waiting was sit by her bedside and beg her to open her eyes already. She listened once, blinked a few times, and stared into my eyes like a drunk person would stare at the world, then slowly, she drifted back into her sleep. Before I could get to the doctors, she had fallen asleep again. That was torture, but I never complained as it was better than death. God, I thought I lost her. I couldn’t even bear to think of that condition. I refused to see anyone, to do anything productive with my life until after she woke up. The elders have, of course, been pressing hard on Logan and Sam to see me. Logan would have definitely given in, but Sam had told them all to go and fuck themselves to while away time while waiting for me, as they definitely wouldn’t be seeing me anytime soon.I didn’t even attempt to correct him. They could do whatever they desired. Threaten me, pul

KILLIAN'S POV Whatever haze was in my eyes cleared up immediately after he spoke. I stared at him, my gaze filled with so much hope and reliance on his next words, as if they would determine if I would inhale the next breath or not. Well, technically, they would. "What?" I whispered, attempting to pull myself up but failing miserably. The aftermath of that realization had worked its way across my entire body, every bone and muscle. It was as if they had all lost their purpose. "Celeste is fine, the physicians confirmed it was just a concussion in the head as a result of something hitting her hard." He muttered, his tone light and calm, he couldn't be lying to me, there was no way on earth that this could be a lie. "I....I thought.....the witches...." "Were just anxious that Malthus was going to return and they had to get you both to safety just in case he reappeared and there was no longer a moonstone to protect you as they explained." I opened my mouth to speak but nothing

KILLIAN’S POV The impact of the blast sent Celeste flying across the field with alarming force. I yelled in terror and dashed forward to grab her but it was too late, there was no way I could do that. Her wolf was sent into the air, shoved backward, and landed on the bark of the same tree I had landed on. I wish I could say that cushioned her fall, but I knew how hard that damn tree was—I felt it. I rushed forward toward her, wasting no time, not bothering to spare even a glance at the scene behind me. My mate before anything, even myself. “Celeste!!” I screamed into the mindlink. I got nothing in response but a grunt of pain. By the time I reached her, I had transformed back into a human, scooped her wolf into my hands, and tried to look for any damage. “Celeste?” I whispered, the urgency in my tone unmistakable. “Celeste, are you alright? Don’t you dare die on me, you hear me? You are not allowed to do so.” I was beginning to panic now and I scooped her into my hands and jolted
