Chapter 160 Called Without Warning

Zarina’s POV

I was in the kitchen, rinsing strawberries for Asher when the knock came. Sharp. Cold. Not a friendly knock.

A younger pack member stood at the door. He didn’t meet my eyes. “The council… they asked to see you. Alone. Now.”

Something about the way he said it made my heart drop.

I wiped my hands and nodded. “Tell them I’ll be there in five minutes.”

He didn't say anything. Just turned and walked away like he didn't want to be involved.

Asher had gone down to the southern border to check patrols. He had no idea that they had summoned me. No one told him. That was the first warning sign.

As I entered the council hall, the mood changed. It was chillier inside than it had been outside. I stood in front of six elders who sat behind a huge wooden table. Their expressions were grim. Silent. Judging.

Chapter 162 1 - I Just Want to Be EnoughZarina’s POVI sat in the corner of the room, my knees pulled tightly to my chest. The house was quiet… too quiet. But my mind wasn’t. It was loud. Too loud.Their voices still echoed in my head.“You don’t belong here.”“She’s not one of us.”“She pushed a pregnant woman.”“She should be banished.”Banished.That word hit my chest like a sword.Even after the Luna challenge… even after proving I could fight… that I could lead… it still wasn’t enough.I wiped my face quickly as I heard the door open. Asher. I knew it was him by the way the air shifted. He stepped in slowly, like he wasn’t sure if he should. I didn’t look up. I didn’t want him to see the tears in my eyes. But he still saw.“Zarina…” His voice was soft. Gentle.I tried to speak, but my throat was tight. I looked up, finally, and the sight of him standing there—his face full of worry and pain—broke something in me.“I’m tired, Asher,” I whispered. He walked to me quickly and knelt

⸻Chapter 161 He Deserves to Know"(Zarina's POV)The house was quiet. Too quiet.I was by myself in the garden, my fingers touching the white lilies' soft petals Asher had planted with the children the previous week. They had patted the dirt with such joy with their small hands… I smiled remembering, but the smile failed to reach my heart.Because all I could hear was the elders’ voices echoing in my head. She has brought shame."She is not one of us."She needs to be exiled or relieved of her title. Those words hurt more than any wound ever could.I had remained there, amidst them, not crying. Trying to be strong. They interrogated me like a culprit. They were not keen on listening to the truth. They already knew what they wished to believe. And I now had to tell Asher. He needed to know… but my heart just felt so heavy. I was aware he would be angry. Not at me—at them. I also knew he would blame himself. He always did, no matter what happened.I washed my hands and stood. My legs w

Chapter 159 The Last Lie That BleedsZarina's lip-upIt was the first morning in a while that things were finally… feeling peaceful.Asher had agreed we take the morning off. No meeting, no warriors, no council affairs. Us. He even deactivated our link so nobody could bother us unless there was an emergency. We slept in a bit later than usual, whispering, laughing at stupid things. At one time, we were on the rug in front of the fireplace. His chest supported my head, his fingers absently tracing patterns on my arm.It was dream-like. A temporary flight from all the storms we had weathered together."I don't want it to end," I breathed, my voice muffled in his warmth."It won't," he promised. "I'm not letting this go. This, you."I was going to reply when there was a knock in the house. We both stopped moving.Asher growled under his breath. "I told everyone to leave us alone."I got up. "It could be important."He sighed a deep breath, already frustrated. He rose from the couch and p

Chapter 158 – The Council’s Summons(Zarina’s POV)The sky was quiet that morning.Soft grey clouds drifted above the treetops, and a gentle wind swept through the pack. I was sitting with the twins in the garden, watching them draw shapes in the dirt with sticks, when the messenger came.He was nervous. Young. I had seen him before in the training grounds, always eager but unsure.“Luna Zarina,” he said, bowing his head quickly, “the council wishes to speak with you… privately.”I stood slowly, brushing the dirt from my hands. “Now?”“Yes,” he said. “They said it’s important.”My heart sank a little.I kissed the twins on their foreheads and left them in the care of one of the older she-wolves nearby. As I walked to the council chamber, I kept my face calm, but my thoughts were spinning.I had a feeling it was about Cara. She hadn’t been seen much since the Luna challenge. She kept her distance, always polite, always quiet. But I knew that silence carried something dark underneath. A

Chapter 157 : My Child Deserves a FatherCara’s POVThe night after Zarina won the Luna challenge, I couldn’t sleep. I laid on the hard bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking about everything I had lost.My pride. My position. My place beside Asher.Gone. Just like that. But the one thing I still had… was this baby growing inside me.And I knew, deep in my heart, that I had to do something—for him. For her. For the tiny life that didn’t ask to be born in the middle of this mess.Tears rolled down my cheeks as I rubbed my stomach.“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I was foolish… I thought I could win. I thought he would choose me.”But he didn’t.He chose Zarina. And now the whole pack saw her as their Luna.Still, my child was innocent. And he or she deserved to have a father. A real one.
