Dante’s POV

“Stay away from him.”

She stopped. Her back tensed. Slowly, she turned to face me, her brow furrowed in disbelief. “Excuse me?”

I didn’t back down.

“Stay away from him,” I repeated. “He is dangerous. He is a psychopath.”

Her eyes flared, violet and vivid, glowing with that fire that always made my chest ache. “He is my patient,” she said, voice sharp. “And it’s my job to treat psychopaths.”

I stepped closer.

Too close.

Close enough to remember the shape of her mouth. The heat of her breath when she used to whisper my name like a promise.

“Scarlet,” I said low, my voice thick with warning and something I didn’t want to name, “he is not the kind of broken you can fix. His soul is… gone. He is not a version of you. Stop seeing yourself in every lost wolf who limps through your ward.”

Her eyes flicked up to mine, and I saw the fury rising.

“He is not you. And he never will be. So stop putting your life and the lives of those around you at risk.”
