I watched Axel struggle with the decision. His jaw worked like he was chewing on something. Eden collapsed again, blood running from her nose as the barrier flickered.

"We don't have time," I said, making the choice for him. "I agree to the alliance."

Ysara smiled, looking very satisfied with my answer. "Smart girl."

She gestured to her three companions. Silver light flared around their hands as they moved to support Eden. I felt the magic hit like a wave of electricity through the air.

The barriers steadied. The lights along Ravenridge's border stopped flickering and held strong.

"How long do we have?" Axel asked, wrapping his arm around my waist while Jace went to support Eden.

"Long enough for the ritual," Ysara replied. "But we must begin immediately. The barriers require constant attention now."

"Ritual?" My stomach dropped. "I thought that came later."

"Child, there is no later. The vampire assault grows stronger each hour." Ysara's dark eyes fixed on mine. "Your abilities must

I stood in the compound's garden with my hands clenched into fists as another massive impact shook the ground under my feet. The barrier lights overhead were going crazy now, throwing wild shadows across the compound walls. Through the windows, I could see pack members running to defensive positions. Their faces looked grim, as they all knew our magical protection was about to fail. The anger burning in my chest felt different than before. Not just protective fury, but something deeper. Something that made my teeth ache and my vision sharper.Marcus burst into the garden with his radio in hand, looking excited and confused at the same time."Calla, you need to hear this," he said, breathing hard. "Social media is going insane. Someone leaked documents about Blake's connections to private military contractors. Financial records, suspicious transactions, the whole thing."He held up his phone, showing me post after post. Official government seals, leaked emails, bank statements that mad

The radio on Marcus's belt crackled to life. He grabbed it, tuning to the emergency frequencies our equipment could still pick up. The compound's radio worked because it was shielded by the same magic that protected us - a side benefit of the Shadowshield that let us monitor outside communications."...gang violence in the small town of Ravenridge..." the news anchor was saying. "Senator Blake Hart has called for increased federal law enforcement presence to address what he terms 'escalating criminal activity.'"My blood turned to ice. "Turn that up."Blake's voice filled the room. That smooth politician's tone that I was really really beginning to hate."The citizens of Ravenridge deserve better protection than local authorities can provide," he was saying. "I'm requesting federal assistance to restore order and safety to this community.""Son of a bitch," Jordan cursed. "He's using the failed mercenary attack to justify bringing in more forces.""Human forces," I said, understanding

I stood in the medical bay doorway, watching silver light fill the room while Matron Ysara chanted over Jace's dying body. The ancient words made my teeth ache, like nails on a chalkboard but worse.Eden knelt beside the bed, her whole body shaking. Her arms were covered in fresh burns from the runes she'd carved into her own skin during the rescue. Blood seeped through the bandages Rikka had wrapped around the worst wounds. She looked like she might collapse any second, but her hands never left Jace's chest. The air tasted like copper pennies and something else. Something that reminded me of lightning before it strikes.Outside the windows, dawn was creeping over the compound. Everything felt different now. Like we were living inside a fortress that might fall at any moment. My chest felt tight, like someone was squeezing my ribs.Axel was still too weak to lead. Jace was dying. And somehow, everyone kept looking at me for answers I wasn't sure I had. Maybe I was imagining this part

EdenI'd never heard Jordan sound like that. His usual calm was completely gone. Raw anger poured off him in waves that made everyone in the room step back."Jordan—" I started."No!" He stepped into the medical bay, his eyes blazing. "You disobeyed direct orders. You took unauthorized personnel into hostile territory. You risked three lives for one man!""He's not just one man," I said, my own temper flaring. "He's our beta. He's pack.""He's also one person!" Jordan's hands clenched into fists. "What if you'd all been killed? What if we lost our medic, our witch, and our Alpha's mate in one night? Then what?"Pack members were gathering in the hallway behind him. I could see their faces. Some looked angry. Some looked scared. All of them looked like they were choosing sides."We brought him home," Calla said quietly. She stood beside Jace's bed, her green eyes steady despite everything we'd been through. "That's what matters.""What matters is following orders," Jordan snapped. "Wha

EdenMy arms were screaming by the time we reached the compound's outer fence.Jace's weight pressed between Calla and me as we stumbled through the pre-dawn darkness. Every step felt like walking through thick mud. My legs shook from the effort of keeping us hidden while helping carrying a grown man who was slowly dying in my arms. The rune on my palm had gone from burning pain to a dull ache that scared me more than the fire had. Through our connection, I could feel Jace slipping away bit by bit. His heartbeat was getting weaker and his breathing more shallow.Whatever those vampires had injected him with was spreading through his body like poison. Dark veins showed under his grayish skin, creeping up his neck toward his heart."How much further?" Calla whispered, adjusting her grip on Jace's arms over her shoulder."Almost there." I tried to sound confident, but my voice cracked.Behind us, Rikka limped along with her rifle ready to cover our behind. She'd been quiet for the last h

I was sitting in my room trying to rest when the burning started. The rune on my palm flared to life, pain shooting up my arm like liquid fire. Something was wrong. Something was very very wrong with Jace.I ran outside just as Marcus and the others came crashing through the compound gates. Cole was leaning heavily on Rex, blood seeping through his shirt. Marcus looked like he'd been through hell. But Jace wasn't with them."Where is he?" I demanded, already knowing the answer would destroy me.Marcus met my eyes, his weathered face grim. "They got him. Ambush. We tried to fight them off but there were too many."The world tilted around me. Jace was captured. In vampire hands. Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck!"We have to get him back," I said immediately.Jordan appeared from the main hall, taking in our battered team with growing alarm. "What happened out there?"Marcus explained quickly to which I listened to with growing alarm on my face. The reconnaissance mission. The trap. How they'd barely
