Synopsis

Chapter 1

Chapter 1: The WeakMate

MABILIS ang lakad ni Cain pabalik sa sariling opisina, na umiigting ang panga at mariing nakakuyom ang kamay.

"Anong gusto mong palabasin?" aniya matapos uminom ng alak.

"Teka, teka. Hindi ako lasing, okay? Ang sinasabi ko rito. Humanap ka ng babaeng pwedeng i-kontrata bilang asawa. Tapos 'pag nakuha mo na 'yung mana mo-- hati tayo, a? Basta, 'pag nakuha mo na saka mo hiwalayan, i-terminate ang kontrata. 'Di ba, ang dali lang?"

"Kalokohan. Uminom ka na nga lang kaysa kung ano-ano pa'ng sinasabi mo."

MALAMYOS na tugtugin at malamlam na ilaw ang bumungad kay Katherine pagpasok sa bar. Kasama niya ng mga sandaling iyon ang bestfriend na si Lian.

"Sa kotse na lang ako maghihintay," aniya.

"Hindi pwede, magtatagal ako kaya tara na," ani Lian sabay hawak sa kamay ng kaibigan.

Matapos ay tinungo ng dalawang babae ang VIP room kung saan naghihintay ang fiance ni Lian.

Ngunit ang totoong dahilan ni Lian kaya isinama si Katherine sa bar ay dahil sa kaibigan ng kanyang fiance. Pagkatapat nila sa pinto ay binulungan niya si Katherine, "Nasa loob ang crush mo."

Nanlaki ang mga mata ni Katherine at nagtangkang umalis nang mabilis na pigilan ni Lian.

"Uuwi na 'ko, marami pa 'kong gagawin sa bahay," palusot ni Katherine.

"Ayoko pa rin," ani Katherine kahit nabigla sa ibinalita nito.

"Sad boy siya ngayon. Saka, minsan lang 'to mangyari, palalampasin mo pa ba?"

Bigla namang bumukas ang pinto at nagpakita mula sa loob si Jared. "Babe, kanina ka pa ba riyan?"

Lumingon sabay halik sa labi si Lian. "Kararating lang namin."

Saka lang napansin ni Jared ang kasama ng fiancee. "Oh, kasama mo pala ang kaibigan mo. Tara, pasok kayo." Saka nilakihan ang bukas ng pintuan.

Napasinghap naman si Katherine nang magtagpo ang tingin nila ni Cain. Ang kanyang boss at ang lalaking tinutukoy kanina ng kaibigan.

Ang mali lang ni Lian... ay hindi na simpleng crush ang nararamdaman ni Katherine.

Matagal na niya itong minamahal... walong taon, simula ng una niya itong masilayan.

Ganoon katagal niyang itinago ang nararamdaman at wala siyang balak, ni minsan kahit sa isip man lang na ipagtapat ang pag-ibig kay Cain.

Wala siyang karapatan. Sa agwat ng estado nila sa buhay, maghahangad pa ba siya?

Siyempre, hindi na.

"Anong ginagawa mo rito?"

Biglang natigilan sa pag-upo si Katherine sa tanong ng amo.

"S-Sorry po, Mr. President--"

Biglang natawa si Jared kaya natigilan si Katherine.

"Nakakatuwa rin 'tong kaibigan mo, babe. Kahit wala na sa trabaho ay tinatawag pa rin si Cain na Mr. President."

"'Wag mong pagtawanan si Katherine kundi mag-aaway tayo," babala ni Lian.

Sabay-sabay naman silang natahimik hanggang sa nagkanya-kanya na ng mundo.

Si Jared at Lian ang magkausap at kapwa intimate sa isa't isa ng mga sandaling iyon. Habang sina Katherine at Cain ay tahimik lang sa kanya-kanyang puwesto.

Nang medyo nakakarami na silang lahat ng inom ay umalis muna si Cain para magbanyo saglit.

Ang medyo lasing na si Jared ay hindi napigilang idaldal ang problema ng kaibigan. Kung ano-ano na ang pinagsasasabi habang si Lian at Katherine ay nagkakatinginan sa isa't isa.

"May mali ba sa suggestion ko?" ani Jared. "Magandang solution naman ang mag-hired na lang siya ng pakakasalan, 'di ba?"

"Ay naku, lasing ka na, babe. Kung ano-ano nang sinasabi mo kay Cain," ani Lian.

Tahimik namang sumunod si Katherine matapos magpaalam sa kaibigan. Nang nasa sasakyan na ay mas lalo siyang kinabahan. Paulit-ulit sumasagi sa isip ang ikinuwento ni Jared.

"Kaya ba mainit ang ulo mo kanina sa office, kasi naghiwalay kayo ng girlfriend mo?" lakas-loob niyang tanong.

Kunot-noo'ng lumingon si Cain. "At sino naman ang nagsabi sa'yo niyan? Saka, baka nakakalimutan mo kung sino ako? Kung kausapin mo 'ko--"

"Wala naman tayo sa trabaho kaya hindi mo 'ko secretary ngayon," mapangahas na wika ni Katherine.

"Lasing ka ba?"

"... Kung kailangan mo ng babaeng magpapanggap bilang asawa mo ay ako na lang."

Biglang natawa si Cain. "Nasisiraan ka na ngang talaga."

"Kailangan mo ng babaeng mapagkakatiwalaan, malapit sa'yo at handa kang paglingkuran... at ako 'yun, ang sekretarya mo."

Napatiim-bagang si Cain. Sa isang iglap ay hinawakan niya ang batok nito sabay siil ng halik sa labi.
