Davina's POV

I had been drifting in and out of sleep. I could not tell if I had been dreaming or hallucinating. Maybe both. But when I finally regained consciousness fully, I realized that I was sitting on a chair, and I could not move my body freely.

I looked down to see that my hands and legs were chained to the chair tightly, and it would be impossible to free myself. I still felt dizzy, my head a little light from the drug Caleb injected in me.

My heart squeezed as I remembered his betrayal. He had been so focused on protecting me. He had always done his job well, whenever Lucien asked him to take care of me. And I thought—I truly believed that he cared about me.

I thought about Lucien. Would he be worried about me? Or maybe this was an opportunity for him to forget me completely. Because I was certain that Kane would kill me.

The thought of Lucien abandoning me hurt so much that I literally felt pain in my chest.
