MasukLucien's POV
Even after I had entered my bedroom, I still held my face where Davina had left her palm print, the memory playing over and over like a broken disc. It was not just the slap, it was the overall attitude that came with it. Maybe it was the pure adulterated hatred I saw in her eyes. I didn't want to tell her that nonsense about being my Luna. Hell, I didn't want her as my Luna. But the moment I entered the room and saw her talking to Rowan, not shouting or glaring or threatening to kill— actually talking— something tightened inside of me. I said that to punish her because I knew how much she hated me. The next day came and I did not see her. She was probably staying out of my way, and I did not want to ask of her even though I was tempted to do so. Another day passed, then the third day. I had to check if she was still alive. Though I knew she was. If she died, I would feel it through the pack bond. I shoved back my ego and walked to her room. I knocked once and I got no response. But I knew she was in there. Her rich scent of jasmine and lavender filled my nose, and I tried to block off the calming effects. Pushing the door open, I entered. I met her on the bed, her gaze already on the door, glaring at whoever was behind it before I even stepped in. Unlike me, she could not smell me until she sees me. She didn't have a wolf yet. Her eyes assessed me carefully, as if she was searching for a secret weapon. I would admit, it was difficult to watch her go from that sweet person that always craved my presence, to this cold version of her that seem to distrust and despise my very being. "What are you doing in my room?" She asked, as if to confirm, when she couldn't find anything in my hand. "I don't need a weapon to kill you, Davina, if that is what you're afraid of." Her gaze narrowed, her eyes still suspicious. "If you are not here to kill me, what are you here for then?" "I think I miss you." I meant that as sarcasm, but coming out of my lips, it felt like there was a truth to it. I refused to acknowledge that. Davina was the daughter of Gideon Carson, the man that destroyed me in ways crueler than anyone deserved. "I think you should get out." Maybe I should. But I stepped forward instead, and her heart rate spiked. She raised the blankets to herself as of it would save her if I wanted to hurt her. I took a good look at Davina, wondering what I was going to do with her. Kane suggested that I just kill her and be done with it, but that was not even in the options. Davina sprang up suddenly, holding a dagger out. "If you dare come any closer, I will plant this in your chest and make sure you don't survive it." The feistiness took me by surprise. It was something I had not seen before, and a smile curved my lips. It made me wonder what she had been busy doing. "If you want to go for the kill, you should at least learn how to hold the dagger correctly. You can easily be disarmed this way." With a little movement and twist of hand from me, I took the dagger from her. "See what I mean?" She shot me a glare that could melt the Titanic iceberg. Maybe she thought it would distract me from the way her cheeks flamed in embarrassment. There it was. The Davina I knew. "Give me the dagger." She demanded, while I just played with it, rolling it in my hand. "And it was unwise for you to aim at my throat. I am too tall for you." I played with the sharp blade, and that seemed to make her wince, and I outrightly rolled my eyes. "You want to kill me, but you are scared that the knife might cut me?" "Some of us are not heartless." She murmured, and I smiled. Pretending that those words didn't have the same effect as this dagger pushed into my chest. "So do you want me dead or not?" "I will kill you." She sounded so certain. "Get another dagger. This one is too heavy for your body type." "I didn't ask you to give me dagger lessons. I said you should leave my room." She pointed towards the door, and for some reason, leaving this room didn't seem like what I was looking forward to anymore. "Give me the dagger." I ignored that. "Makes me think, do you always sleep with a dagger next to you?" When she didn't answer, I continued. "And you didn't even wait to expose that secret to your enemy. Are you even sure you are serious about killing me?" Davina clenched her jaw. "You will know the answer to that when I finally end you." I refrained from rolling my eyes. "You talk bold for someone whose hand trembles from holding a dagger." "I am trembling because I can't stand you." Ouch. "This is your first attempt of trying to kill me, Little Rose. If I am to rate your performance by percentage, you get a three. A three over hundred." Mortification and anger flamed her face. "I expect better next time. Get smarter, do something creative." "Fucking bastard." She murmured. "That's a strange way to pronounce Alpha." Davina's face morphed into something else. Something cold, and totally different from the girl she had always been. "You are not, and you will never be my Alpha." The words felt heavy, they hung in the air, creating a tension sharp enough to cut. "We will see about that." I turned around to leave. "My dagger." Davina demanded. "It is mine now. I earned it." With that, I stepped out of her room. Please tell me what you think
~ Four years laterDavina's POV"Lucien, I swear to the Goddess, I'm going to kill you if I come out of this alive," I screamed at Lucien, but he didn't let my hand go. "I hate you. You caused this!"I would never talk to him like that on a normal day, but now, the pain searing through my whole body as I lay on the hospital bed, pushing out our son, clouded my judgement."It's going to be over soon, okay?" I've never heard him sound so scared and nervous, even when he was dying. "Just hold on a little bit more... You're doing it... Yes, just hold on... I'm so proud of you." He leaned in to kiss my knuckles, over and over again, also massaging the part of me that his hands were making contact with."He's almost out, Luna. Just one more push." The poor midwife that I'd been giving a hard time pleaded."I'm tired!" I screamed, voice raw from pain and my breathing was coming in short bursts.Lucien squeezed my hand. "Little Rose," his voice was so gentle, my heart had no choice but to res
Lucien's POVThree weeks later"Are you sure about this?" I asked Rowan, who had called me seconds ago to deliver the news I'd been waiting for."Positive.""How are you certain?"He hesitated for a beat before he answered. "Cerena opened up to me."Silence stretched between us.Cerena. The rogue. The one that stole my mate's face.Rowan had managed to get a glimpse of her real face a few days ago. She looked nothing like Davina, and it was really just a plan to get close and kill me.Cerena opening up to Rowan was not on my bingo card. I know that my Beta could be absolutely charming with women when he's not too busy being a Beta. But..."Are you sure she's not lying to you? She might have figured you out and this might all just be a trap."There was another beat of silence, as if he was considering his next words carefully. "I don't think Cerena's all bad."I pulled the phone away from my ear, just to check the name of the person on the other end of the line. Like I suspected, it wa
Lucien's POVDavina retired to bed before me. After we rejoined others at the hall, she'd drank a bit and gotten a little tipsy, then she said she wanted to go to bed. I escorted her to the room, and after she was safely tucked into bed, I went back for whatever Desmond and the other Alphas were discussing. But after fifteen minutes, I became bored of all their faces. All I could see was brunette hair, smooth skin, pink lips and beautiful eyes that crinkled with her smile. I excused myself again, but this time, I had no plans of coming back.I opened our room's door gently, not wanting to wake her in case she was asleep. I closed my eyes as I entered, savouring her sweet natural scent mixed with the floral scent of her shampoo.I just wanted to dip my nose in her and just breathe in for the rest of my life. But as I stepped into the room and took sight of the figure on the bed, my blood froze.I'd imagined that she was already clutching the blankets, far from consciousness. But now?F
Davina's POVThe day of the Luna ceremony was here at last, and I finally got to take those vows that cemented my position as the official Luna of the Lunar claw pack. It was amazing. Everyone that mattered to me were in attendance. Rowan, Peter, Cynthia and her family, Sienna and all the other Alphas that I'd formed a friendship with through Lucien. Raine came with Desmond, and from the look of things, they seemed to have worked through their differences and looked more relaxed around each other now. Maybe they'd accepted their mate bond? We haven't spoken about it. But I knew that they had been through some shit together.I noticed Alpha Maxwell and his mate by a corner, chattering and giggling in low voices. Their pack was doing fine now and their relationship was thriving. Then Alpha Marco was talking to some other people I didn't know yet, but they were invited. After the ceremony, we moved to the ballroom for the after party.I almost couldn't believe it. After everything. All t
Davina's POVThings had gone back to normal, except for the fact that we were waiting for Cerena to lead us to the main hideout of the rogue king. It's been three days since she "escaped", but instead of going straight to there like we expected, she went to a nearby human city. Just this morning, she casually started working at a restaurant under a completely different name. Now we weren't even sure if that was her real name to begin with. Rowan was in charge of spying on her.Maria Ambrose? Her existence was a headache. While that was going on, we were making plans on my Luna ceremony again. This time, I truly hoped and pray that nothing would go wrong.I settled into the bed with a bowl of popcorn, as I decided to see a movie with Lucien in our room. I gave my novels a break just so we could spend the time together.Lucien was not a fan of rom-coms, but utilizing the magic powers of the love he had for me, I forced him. We were almost done with our second movie when my mind circled
Trigger warning: Torture and goreLucien's POVKane was a caricature of the man he used to be. Face pale, skin burnt, flesh so depleted, I could see all the points of his bones. He'd been fed only vegetables just so he could heal, but not enough to keep him from starving. He was chained in a different way from the last time we saw. Legs and hands were spread-eagled in a vertical X-frame. His chest heaved violently as if he was struggling to breathe."Thought you'd be better by now." I murmured as I entered his cell. His stomach was blackened from the burn of the acid. It was better than the day I created the art, but it still looked like he was in so much pain. His gaze followed me, jaw tight. There was still fire left in his eyes which I appreciated. I like a little fight before I drain the life out of him. Literally and metaphorically. The tools were still laid out there. Blades, muzzles, acid, cleavers and all. For a short while, my brain pictured ways in which I could torture him
