Ch 1
Olivia’s PoV I took out the oven mitts after I placed Damian’s favorite pie on the table to cool off. He should be coming home soon. I checked my phone for the hundredth time in case he sent me a text, but nothing since this morning. My wolf Vanilla whimpered in the back of my mind. She is as worried as I am about him. Since the dead of Levi his older brother he has become almost a shell of himself. During a serious rogue attack, Levi threw himself between a rogue and Damian to protect him resulting in Levi’s death. Vivian, his widow. And Damian… broke down. Damian continues his alpha duties, but at night he spends restless hours, consumed with guilt, shaking in my arms as tears soak my clothes, breaking my heart piece by piece. I stood up quickly as I heard a car pull outside the house. ‘It’s him,’ said Vanilla already feeling his presence. I catch my reflection in the small wall mirror. The necklace Damian had given to me sparked. Damian said the necklace was for our missed anniversary. This was the perfect opportunity to wear it. I’ve prepared his favorite dishes, and a pie, all arranged neatly across the table. I wanted to lift his spirits after another long day at the hospital with Vivian. The broken mate-bond tortured Vivian for days. She suffered more than anyone could withstand. I just hoped she would get better soon. “Damian, honey you’re back...!” I said with a big smile. He just stood there looking at me as if assessing me. His aura was cold, detached, it made vanilla uneasy. “What happened? Is Vivian, ok?” I asked. At the mention of his sister-in-law, he walked towards me. “Vivian tried to kill herself,” His tone was full of pain. “She’s dying, Olivia. And she’s pregnant. My brother’s only heir is battling between life and death…” “Goddess!!” I gasped. I felt pity for both Vivian and Damian. Levi was also a good brother to me. Everyone grieved him, but we all knew it was especially hard for Vivian, because the death of a fated mate is devastating for every werewolf. She tried to kill herself, perhaps not knowing she was pregnant. My heart ached for her. “What can we do to help her?” I really wish I could do something for her. Although Vivian and I never got along well, I thought I should try my best to support her. We married the brothers, that makes us family. “You are the only person who can help her.” His tone was strange; something was not right. My chest tightened. Why am I the only person who can help her? I felt confused. “Olivia, you need to share your life with Vivian.” He spat it out. I felt confused and couldn’t understand what he meant. I tried looking at his eyes. He must be joking. “Damian?” “Conventional medicine won’t help Vivian. But there’s hope. They suggested to bind her life to another, a stronger she wolf with Witchcraft.” He said reaching for my hand with eyes full of hope. I pulled back. "Witchcraft Damian? You know anything involving life and witchcraft is extremely evil. We werewolves know better than anyone that we should be wary of witches." He reached for my hand again, grabbing it this time, sending a chill through my bones. This could not be happening. My own mate could not be contemplating this idea. "Olivia, I promised my brother to take care of her and now it is not only Vivian but Levi's child. I owe it to him.” His endless guilt and self blame is willing to sacrifice his own mate. I stared at him in disbelief, my chest aching with every shallow breath. "Why must it be me?” I searched in his eyes, for a hint of hesitation, for the love I once felt from him. There was none. I couldn’t stop trembling. The betrayal, the desperation, the love and the rage. Everything was a storm inside me. Vanilla was howling. "Damian, this is cruel and unfair. I refuse!" Damian let go of me abruptly, he spun around angrily, a hand going through his hair. Then he pinned me with his hard cold gaze. “Olivia, this spell won’t last forever! Once Vivian gives birth, the spell will be lifted and it’s only you as the strongest she-wolf in the pack that can endure this. I thought of all people you would understand my decision!” He was annoyed, almost desperate. “Damian I can’t.” My voice cracked. “I don’t mean to be cruel to Vivian and her baby, but…” perhaps is time to reveal my identity. I’m the daughter of the alpha king. I had escaped a political marriage three years ago with the help of my brother. But if I go back, perhaps they can find the best doctors and… “Damian I…” “You will not deprive her of the chance to live!” He roared with his wolf Nyx’s voice. My body trembled. He had never used alpha command on me. Vanilla was angry. ‘Let me out, Olivia. Let me show what a true alpha she wolf can do.’ She hissed. ‘Vanilla, he’s, our mate.’ Damian noticed me shaking and he softened. “Olivia, I’m sorry… I lost control.” He held me tight and I melted on his embrace. Relief washing over me. I knew he wouldn’t do that to me. Together we will find a solution. But then—snap. I felt his hands touch the necklace around my neck, and a searing magic fire erupted around my body. Every bone in my body felt as if it was shattered. “Damian, it hurts too much!” I howled inhumanely and fell to my knees. Damian hugged my shaky body tightly. Strangely, the fire didn’t burn him, meanwhile my body seared inside me. It was no normal fire, simply burning people to ash. The surface of my body was not harmed, but it was indeed causing me pain and killing me agonizingly slowly. “I’m sorry Olivia.” He said with trembling voice, but resolute. “I’ll lift the spell once Vivian gives birth I promise.” “What have you done to me?!” My screams ripped from my throat as I writhed in agony. Its dark magic was destroying my wolf from the inside. “No, no!! Vanilla bellowed in pain. ‘Olivia, help!’ I could see in my head, her beautiful grey silver fur turning dark, and her claws quickly couldn’t support her anymore. She was bleeding. A guttural howl escaped me; my eyes widened with despair. ‘Vanilla, Vanilla!!’ I reached desperately for her. I couldn’t feel her anymore. “Goddess please save my wolf.” I sobbed. Damian looked at me feeling justified. “You’re strong Olivia. You will be fine. I will make it up to you once this is over.” Tears blurred my face as the pain tore through my heart. Then everything went dark.Olivia’s PoV Damian stood by the door. I could feel his wolf’s aura radiating possessiveness. If only I could mind-link him, I’m sure he does not agree with what Damian did to Vanilla. He was always so gentle to both of us. “I was talking to Adam, your brother’s ex Beta.” After his sister Katherine became Damian’s Beta, Adam moved to the Crow Pack where he is the Beta now. Damian scoffed, he and Adam didn’t have a good relationship, so I’m not worried about Damian discovering my lie. “What does that fucker want? He shouldn’t be calling someone else’s wife this late.” He said disdainfully. He had never liked me being friends with Adam or any man for that matter. He does not love me, but he has always been possessive of me. I scoffed, to him I’m just a possession, nothing else. I can’t believe how well he fooled me all this time. “He just came back from vacation and couldn’t get a hold of Katherine. He was asking me about her, and he invited me to his welcoming party.” Damian se
Olivia’s PoV Vivian's words still rang in my ears. She had been Damian’s girlfriend. Had Damian betrayed me with her? Had he been faking love and caring for me all along? It all makes sense now. How he sacrificed her wolf all for Vivian’s sake without a second thought. I lay on my bed and even though I thought I had no more tears to shed, my pillow was instantly soaked. Soon, I fell asleep once again, feeling weak and desolate. “Luna your meal.” An omega entered with a trade of steaming food after knocking softly. I sat up and noticed the look of pity she gave me. This is what Damian has turned me into, a pitiful Luna. “Thank you, Marie. You can leave it on the table.” She placed the trade on the coffee table next to the small armchair but did not leave. “Do you want something, Marie?” She fidgeted a little before she spoke nervously. “Luna, Alpha was going to bring your meal, but Ms. Vivian suddenly fell ill, and Alpha rushed her to the pack’s hospital.” I scoffed inwardl
Damian’s PoV I was trying to catch up with some work at my office. The Vivian issue had made it almost impossible for me to do anything else, keeping me away from my businesses and Olivia. A knock followed by someone opening the door made me look up from the files I was reading. “Damian, here you are. Already buried in paperwork. Have you seen the day outside is beautiful? You should come with me for a walk.” Vivian strode in with her chirpy personality. She looked renewed, a far cry from the suicidal woman she was just yesterday. But this energy and glow belonged to Olivia. “Should you be out and about already?” I asked with concern. Her pup must live. He or she will be the continuation of my brother’s bloodline. “Oh, Damian. I feel wonderful! And it’s all thanks to you.” She leaned down, tracing a finger up my arm as she stood, way too close to me. Annoyance coiled in my chest as I grabbed her hand taking it off me. “Enough, with your little hints, Vivian! You’re my brot
Olivia’s PoV. The next morning, I woke up first. Damian was still holding me in his arms. Unable to push him, I stare into space at the first rays of light drifting through the curtains. Then I felt him stirring. I did not want to talk to him, so I pretended to be asleep. He had shattered all my expectations and there was truly nothing left to talk about between us anymore. My heart pounded, but I kept my breathing steady until I heard the shower running. Damian quietly left the room after showering, still thinking I was asleep. Only then did I breathe out and get up. My heart ached. My chest fell hollow. I tried to reach Vanilla again, to no avail. She was truly gone. The hollow void in my chest felt even bigger now. I’ll figure it out Vanilla. I will. I held to that frail hope. It took me tremendous effort to shower and change. It was also an ordeal to get dressed, but I managed without help. I still wanted to hold to that bit of dignity I had left, now that Damian has tak
Olivia’s PoV. After I drifted back to sorrowful and painful sleep. I didn’t know for how long, until I was awakened by Dr. Chloe. I opened my eyes to find her next to me. "Luna Olivia, how are you feeling?" She asked gently, but with the same pitiful look as Katherine’s. Goddess. "Worse than I look," I answered. My throat was parched and I felt so frail. I felt ancient. My body already felt as if it were withering by the minute, shriveling from the inside out without Vanilla to sustain me. Vanilla, my heart squeezed every time I thought of her. The hollow pain in my chest was unbearable. Each breath came weaker than the last, and even the simple act of existing was agony. Dr. Chloe looked nervous. "Luna, you need to talk to Alpha Damien. Your results came in... you're pregnant." She whispered nervously. Everyone was afraid of Damian somehow. The words took the air out of my lungs. For a fleeting moment, warmth bloomed in my chest—hope, joy, life. But just as quickly, the
Olivia’s PoV.I walked through the darkness for what felt like an eternity, searching for my wolf. “Vanilla, come back.’ I sobbed. Please answer me, I can't lose you. The pain in my body was excruciating, but the pain in my heart was unbearable. My other half was gone. Torn from me in the cruelest of ways. I kept calling her, but no answer ever came. The flames that had consumed me had taken her.My dear Vanilla was gone.My mate killed my wolf with his own hands to use my life as a life bank for another woman.I opened my eyes and found Damian holding my hand, next to my bed. “Olivia you’re awake! Thank the Moon Goddess!” His eyes widened with fake relief and concern. I immediately tried to pull my hand, but I was so weak I couldn’t even move it.Was I paralyzed? My chest rose and fell rapidly, the look of horror on my face must have alerted Damian.“Shh, calm down, Olivia.” He squeezed my hand and kept stroking my shoulders, trying to sooth me. It didn't work for me. I frown
