I woke to the gentle sensation of something cool pressing against my forehead. My eyelids fluttered open to find myself cradled against Lucian's chest, his arm wrapped protectively around me. The events of the previous night rushed back—running from his den after our encounter, spending the night in the cold garden pavilion.

"The fever's still high," Lucian murmured, his voice unusually soft.

I tried to sit up, but my limbs felt leaden, my head pounding mercilessly. Emily, my silver-weakened wolf, whimpered inside me, feeling the effects of prolonged exposure to the night air.

"You need to take your medicine and eat something before going back to sleep," he said, reaching for a small vial on the bedside table.

"I can do it myself," I protested weakly, embarrassed by his attention.

"Clearly," he replied dryly. "Your outdoor sleeping habits have proven your excellent self-care abilities."

He uncorked the vial and held it to my lips. "Drink."
