1: Is she here?

I smiled, looking at myself in the mirror. I had worn a pink satin draped tail floor-length gown, featuring a bodycon corset and thigh-high slit, and matching golden heels.

This was the last time I was going to fit inside this beautiful gown because I doubted that after pregnancy I would be this slim. I smiled again at that thought.

I couldn’t believe that I was pregnant and that Massimo was going to be a father now. My chosen mate, Massimo De Luca, was the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack. And I had been in love with him from the moment I met him; I didn't even know the meaning of love. So, when he asked me to marry him, I didn’t think twice before saying yes. Only to realize that Massimo wanted just a perfect Luna for his pack, nothing more than that.

I knew that discovery hurt me a lot, but by putting on a happy face, I did what Massimo expected of me in the hope of him falling in love with me someday, and it had been two years since that incident.

I didn’t know whether he fell in love with me or not, but yes, he told me that he was ready to have a family with me a week before, and tada, like the perfect and dutiful Luna that I was.

I granted him his wish to give an heir to the pack.

I couldn’t wait to share this news with Massimo tonight after the Mating ball.

I used extra perfume to hide the change in my scent that a female werewolf's body showed at the time of pregnancy.

"I don’t like waiting, Amee! Why the hell are you taking..." Massimo walked inside the room, complaining, and he stopped speaking when his eyes landed on me. I didn’t miss how his eyes traveled from top to bottom, admiring my features, but as usual, he didn’t say a single word as a compliment.

Not that I was expecting it.

"And why have you bathed in perfume? I can’t stand anywhere around you with this smell." He complained, trying to change the topic.

I smiled and walked towards the closet to get a tie to match my gown. I returned to him within a few seconds. I didn’t miss how he quietly observed my every move. A moment before, he complained about my perfume, and now he was standing an inch away while I was helping him with the tie.

Through other people's eyes, he was a man full of red flags, but it was totally different in my eyes. Again, I wasn't someone who was love-blind. It was just that I was the one who knew him better than anyone else.

I knew he was in love with the little girl who saved his life. Only if he knew that the girl for whom he had been searching for years was standing in front of him.

But at the same time, I knew it wasn’t love. It was just gratitude or any feeling that one would feel for the person who saved his life. After all, how much did he know about that girl except for her nickname?

Moreover, I foolishly asked that little boy to choose me as his mate when we grew older.

Sometimes, I wondered if I should tell him about that.

But then, I wanted him to love me for me, not because I saved his life.

"You look handsome," I complimented.

"I always do. Tell me something that I don’t know."

Well, that was the truth; he always looked handsome, even in simple trousers and a T-shirt.

"Hmm, Done. You can check it in the mirror."

"Not required. I know you’re perfect in it," He said before adding, "Now hurry up; all the unmated males and females are waiting for us." I nodded my head. I knew they were excited to find their fated mate. A blessing from the Moon Goddess.

Sometimes I wondered if the Moon Goddess would punish me for not waiting for my fated mate and choosing Massimo as my mate.

I kind of rejected her gift, didn’t I?

After an hour's drive, we finally reached the venue. I didn’t miss the change in Massimo’s demeanour the moment he stepped inside the venue.

My grip on his arms tightened as I thought about the worst thing possible. Massimo was twenty-one years old now, and it had been three years since he hadn’t found his fated mate.

He turned his head and looked at his arms, which I had held tightly.

‘What kind of behavior is it?’ He questioned himself, walking inside while his eyes roamed around, searching for someone. ‘Didn’t we agree to let each other go if we found our fated mate?’ he questioned through the mind link.

No need to remind me of that, because I really believe that there was a chance for us when you told me that you wanted to have a family with me.

I didn’t say it loudly or answer back because I was too hurt to say anything. More than that, I had to plaster a smile on my face and look at everyone; after all, I was a perfect Luna. I had to act normal even when thousands of needles were poking my heart.

‘Is she here?’ I asked, masking my pain behind my smile.

‘Yes, the girl in a white gown.’ He responded, and I finally looked at the woman who was his fated mate. As much as I was in pain, I didn’t miss noticing how similar our hair color and eyes were, as if we were sisters from the same mother.

She was looking between Massimo and me from time to time with a painful expression.
