Chapter 5

LIAM POV

I left Chloe's father’s house with a pang of guilt and desperation on my face. I blamed myself for breaking her heart and stopping so low to have something to do with her sister, Mendy.

I know she loves me, but I was such a fool to take her love for granted. Now, see the mess I've caused her family and the hatred they all have for me. If not for anyone else, at least for the sake of her grandmother, whom Chile cherishes so much, I need to find her and bring her back so that her grandma can smile and be happy.

I walked away from Chloe's father's house, burdened by guilt and with a deep sense of desperation etched across my face.

The weight of my actions bore heavily on me as I replayed the events that led to the fracture of Chloe's heart. Regret looked straight into my eyeballs for stooping so low as to involve himself with her sister, Mendy.

I couldn't escape the reality that I had taken Chloe's love for granted, blinded by foolishness. Now, the result of my actions has resulted in a shattered family and widespread hostility directed at him. The damage was irreparable, but amidst the ruins, I felt a burning responsibility to mend what I could.

At least, if not for my identity to be regained and for my conscience to be free from guilt, then for the sake of Chloe's beloved grandmother, i needed to rectify the chaos i had caused.

Chloe's happiness had always been intertwined with her grandmother's joy. She was the only woman who took her as her mother and treated her as her daughter since the death of her late mother. I know that Chloe loves her grandmother so much, and I couldn't stand and watch her go into a state of distress just because of my stupid mistake.

“I need to find Chloe as soon as possible.” I mustered to myself as I grabbed my car keys from my side pocket and started the engine of the car to head home.

I drove through the lonely road of the town, listening to some cool R&B music as I thought of ways to present this news to Mendy and how I planned to embark on the search for Chloe. After driving for like thirty minutes, enjoying the ooziness of the breeze and the calmness of the cloud, I got to my house.

Suddenly, the car came to a halt. I stepped out onto the quiet street, the night enveloping the town in a serene embrace. The cool R&B tunes still echoed in my mind, a stark contrast to the turmoil within.

As I approached my door, the weight of the impending conversations with Mendy and the search for Chloe pressed on my chest. I quietly unlocked the door. The familiar scent of my home offered a brief respite. I headed straight to the living room, sinking into the worn-out couch. With a deep breath, I mulled over the words I would choose to deliver the news to Mendy. Guilt lingered like an unwelcome guest, but I knew I had to face the consequences of my actions.

As I was about to go grab my keys and go face the woman I abandoned and refused to satisfy her sexual desires, I heard a voice at the back of the couch saying, “How was the meeting with them?" I got terrified as I almost leaped out of the chair, my hands instinctively clutching my chest. The room seemed to close in as I turned around, only to find Mendy standing there, her gaze fixed on me. Her facial expression was a mixture of surprise and anxiety.

"How was the meeting with them?" she repeated, her voice holding a blend of curiosity and suspicion. I hesitated, searching for the right words to explain the complex situation. The air thickened with unspoken tension, a tangible reminder of the fragile balance hanging in the silence.

I looked for a way to divert the question, just not to make her feel mad. “You startled me. What was all that for? Did you miss me so much? Or do you want us to continue from where we stopped?"I asked her as I grabbed her soft ass to the side of my waist.

She tried pulling my hands down as I tried to grab her by her waistline again. She took a step backward and crossed her hands over to her chest as she said,You left me when I needed you the most. I don't feel horny enough to go on a long, wild ride with you. How about you tell me what you and Chloe's father discussed?" Her eyes shot into mine, demanding honesty.

“Fine! I’ll tell you everything you need to know.” I gave her a response while looking straight into her eyes.

“I went there thinking that there's an important message for the pack, only to find out that Chloe ran away from the house and has left the Mayhill pack for good. I couldn't believe it when they told me. Now, they are all pointing fingers at me, saying that I'm the reason behind her sudden disappearance. Scott grabbed me by the collar of my shirt and threatened to make life unbearable for me if I didn't provide for his sister.”

Mendy's eyes widened as she gave a listening ear to everything I said to her. The room fell silent, tension thickening the air between us. "Chloe ran away?" she finally whispered, disbelief etched across her face.

I nodded solemnly, recounting the painful details. "Yes, Mendy. She left the Mayhill pack for good. The news hit them hard, and they are furious, not just at me but at both of us.”

“How come?" she asked.

"I don't know how it happened. Everything just happened so fast. Everybody is pointing fingers at us, saying that we are the major reason why she left the Mayhill pack.”

“I've always known that Chloe is a weak girl. She couldn't even fight for her man or make things work out between you guys; she just left. I thought she said that she loved you so much. So, what happened to that? Thank goodness that you didn't make her Luna, because she is so weak." Mendy spoke to me with so much happiness in her voice.

“Oh! Come on, Mendy! You aren't even feeling remorseful for your actions at all. We are talking about your sister, and here you are saying nasty things about her weakness. You should be ashamed of yourself. I'm so disappointed in you. Is that the next thing that is supposed to come out of your mouth?" -

Mandy's response cut through the air,her tone rising. “What would you have me say, Liam? I want her to come back to this place. Never! I want her to stay very far away from both of us. I don't want her to ever return again. Let her go live her life somewhere else and with another man who can love her the way she is." She spoke back at me in a rude tone.

“But she is your blood sister, Mendy. Aren't you bothered about her safety?" I asked her as I looked into her eyes, searching for answers.

“Do I look bothered? Alright, let me ask you, What do you want to do?" Mendy inquired, her eyes searching for answers.

I paced about the sitting room, a sense of urgency propelling my movements. Feeling Mendy's intense gaze and burdened by guilt, I let out a deep sigh.

"Look, Mendy, I know what I'm about to say might break your heart a bit, but we both have made a mess, and I need to fix it." The gravity of my words hung in the air, and I could see skepticism in Mendy's eyes.

"How do you intend to fix that?" She questioned me, her voice tinged with apprehension as she focused all her attention on my lips, waiting for me to spill the answer.

"I need to go and look for Chloe. I need to know where she is," I replied with evidence in my voice.

"No way! I won't watch you do that," Mendy blurted out, her resistance immediate and fervent. The tension between us thickened, and the room filled with the weight of unspoken emotions.

"Mendy, I can't just stand by and let the mess we created ruin Chloe's life. I need to find her, apologize, and make amends," I pleaded, hoping she would understand the urgency of the situation.

Mendy crossed her arms, her expression unwavering. "You think finding her is going to fix everything? It's too late for that, Liam. She's gone, and you can't change that," she asserted.

"But I have to try.” I responded back to her.

“Did I just hear you say try? If eventually you end up seeing her and bringing her back home, what then happens to me and the love you said you have for me?"

Her words hung in the air, leaving me momentarily speechless. I stammered before gathering my thoughts to respond.

"I... I... will."
