SOPHIA'S POV

As the speeches ended and the twins basked in the love everyone was showering them with, I took a moment to breathe. The party had gone smoother than I expected, despite the clear and obvious tension between Nathan and Lucas. But I knew that was only because they’d been kept busy with the kids and giving them gifts.

Now, with the formalities over, I had work to do.

I glanced over at Maria and Frank, who stood near the drink table, deep in conversation. Well, that was a good start. Frank was laughing at something Maria said, and she had that intrigued glint in her eyes. Still, I wasn’t about to leave things to chance.

Grabbing a fresh plate of food, I made my way toward them, wearing my best innocent smile. “Hey, you two. Enjoying yourselves?”

Frank wiped his hands on a napkin. “Your food is top notch, as always, Sophia.”

Maria smirked. “Yeah, yeah, don’t think flattery will get you more free meals.”

I laughed and casually glanced around. “You know, since you two are alre

VICTORIA'S POVThey weren’t supposed to lose.I stared at the feed playing on the cracked screen in front of me, my fingers twitching with rage. The tiny camera embedded in one of those idiot mutts’ vests had managed to stream most of it – grainy, jittery footage, but clear enough for me to see the reality I had been trying to avoid for weeks. Technology is quite the tool – particularly when it allows for you to see your failures. She was stronger than I remembered. No… not stronger.Meaner.There was something in her eyes, something in the way she moved – controlled, precise, unflinching. Like she'd spent all this time not just surviving, but sharpening herself like a blade. She didn’t shift, didn’t howl, didn’t waste a single breath on theatrics. She just took them down.Every. Single. One. Of. Them.My lip curled as I leaned back in the chair, the legs creaking under my weight. The camera feed cut out with a violent shake, most likely when the last fool’s head hit that tree trunk.

SOPHIA'S POVNathan leaned against what served as the kitchen counter at the cabin, arms folded, jaw tight. “You’re not going alone.”“I’m not asking for permission,” I said, slipping my coat on. “But I am telling you – so you don’t come tearing through the woods after me.”He stepped forward. “Sophia—”“I felt something,” I interrupted, voice low but firm. “Something from them. A flicker I’ve never felt before, not like this. I don’t know how to explain it.”He paused. He knew that as long as it concerned them, I would do anything. He had just come into the room, the scarf fiasco still clear in his mind, and I knew that his frustrations knew no limits.“It’s not a bond. It’s not magic.” I added, already anticipating the look in his eyes. “It’s just... something in my gut. I can’t ignore it.”“You shouldn’t go alone.”“I won’t be.” I glanced toward the hallway where the twins slept peacefully. “They’re counting on me.”His eyes softened for a beat, but then hardened again. “You think

NATHAN'S POV The fire had long since died down in Elara’s hearth, but I still saw flames. Not in the room — in my mind. The image of Sophia clutching that mirror. Her knuckles white. Her shoulders trembling. The breath she held as she tilted it toward herself. And the way her whole body froze as if petrified when she realized what the mirror didn’t show. Not a single trace of them.No Alex. No Alexia.Because they were never inside the illusion to begin with. The burning in my chest hadn’t stopped since that moment. If anything, it had only grown – a furnace stoked by rage, guilt, and something deeper. Something older. The instinct that lived in every bone in my body, that had whispered to me, “Protect your mate. Protect your children.”And I had failed both.I moved through the woods like a ghost now, my senses stretched to their limit. Night bled across the sky in ink blue waves as though the skies and ocean had switched places and colors, the moon thin and sharp overhead. We’d spl

SOPHIA'S POV“Oh just have it!” The voice sounded uncharacteristically annoyed. The fire crackled low in Elara’s hearth, the only sound in the otherwise quiet cabin. Outside, the wind howled like some ancient creature mourning its dead, but it was the silence inside that unsettled me most.Everyone had gone still when Elara handed me the mirror. We all just froze. Not just any mirror – the mirror. No one had been expecting that move – I most certainly had not expected it. But I had a feeling Elara was the type of woman to deal with her problems head on. She handed it to me like it wasn't the mirror I hadn't wanted to touch since waking up from Victoria's twisted realities. My fingers curled tightly around it now. Cold. Heavier than I thought it would be. The edges dug into my palms like it knew what it was about to show me – and that I wasn’t ready.“You don’t have to do this tonight.” Nathan said quietly. His voice was warm, grounding. But I didn’t look at him. Couldn’t. I was too af

NATHAN'S POVElara’s cabin was too small for this many people. Not in size – physically it could hold us. But the tension? The layered histories, bruised egos, and clashing instincts? That made the room feel like it might collapse in on itself. The cabin was quiet, but not peaceful. There was too much weight in the silence – too many words unsaid, too many plans frayed at the edges. We’d all gathered here like the war room this place had never been built to be – a patch of worn floorboards, a fireplace coughing its last breath, and people who had once followed the same path now staring in different directions.Theon stood with arms crossed, staring at the table like it had personally betrayed him. Vivian leaned near the window, scanning the tree line like Victoria might slip through it any second. Elder Jesper sat in Elara’s old chair, hands folded, unnervingly still. And beside me – Sophia. Solid. Quiet but very much present. I could tell by the renewed determination in her eyes.I’d

  • Alpha's Regret: Mommy, Daddy, We Want to Be Together!   Chapter 277 – If it meant a chance at finding them? Yes. Even if it broke me!

NATHAN'S POVThe moon rose like a bruise – swollen, wrong, and casting light that didn’t comfort. It only made the shadows stretch longer. We’d moved from the clearing. Not because it felt safer, but because Sophia needed warmth, and I needed something to pace around that didn’t smell like smoke and dried blood.Elara’s cabin sat a bit further in the woods. Small, warded, and built like it had withstood every war time had ever thrown at it. Sophia curled on the couch now, a blanket pulled over her shoulders, eyes dull from too little rest and too much grief. She wasn’t asleep. Not really. But she wasn’t with us either – not entirely.I knew that look. I’d worn it for weeks when the mate bond had been severed. It was the expression of someone stuck in the past and terrified of the future.“She won’t keep them in one place,” Elara was saying as she laid down a new set of markers on the table, mapping symbols I didn’t recognize with swift, precise strokes. How does she even do it? Who wa
