Dominic’s POV

My car engine roared as I pressed brake. The sound of gunfire cracking through the forest had frozen me. Penelope was in immediate danger, and every second I wasted could be her last.

I abandoned all attempts at stealth and crashed through the underbrush like a charging bull. Branches whipped across my face and thorns tore at my clothes, but I didn’t slow down. My wolf was howling inside my mind, demanding I reach our mate before something irreversible happened.

When I burst into the clearing, the scene confirmed my worst fears. Penelope was pinned behind a fallen log while masked attackers closed in from multiple directions. Bodies were scattered around the area—she’d clearly been holding her own—but she was outnumbered and running out of cover.

Edward was running near the treeline with Debbie, Tommy, and Elara clustered around him, out of Penelope’s eyeline. Something about his demeanor struck me as completely wrong. He wasn’t panicking or shouting orders. He wasn’t try

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 278: The Ritual Begins

Julian’s POVThe mountain cave stretched into darkness beyond my flashlight’s reach. Water dripped from limestone formations.Perfect isolation for what I was about to attempt.I spread the ritual components across a flat rock formation near the cave entrance. Twelve silver needles gleamed, their points honed to perfection during the last solar eclipse. Bundles of dried herbs emitted scents that made my wolf pace restlessly beneath my skin. The enhancement compounds sat in medical vials, their contents dark as old blood.Thirty percent survival rate. Worse odds than I’d hoped, but better than remaining weak while Dominic claimed everything I wanted. My phone showed 11:47 PM. The new moon reached its peak at midnight, providing optimal conditions for bloodline modification. I had thirteen minutes to complete the preparation ritual before the window closed for another month.I stripped off my clothes and arranged them in a neat pile near the cave mouth. The ritual required direct contact

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 277: Networks in Shadow

Julian’s POVThe abandoned warehouse sat like a broken tooth against the evening sky. I pulled my truck behind the crumbling loading dock, checking the mirrors for any sign of pursuit. Three weeks of planning had led to this moment—the first meeting of my new intelligence operation. My phone beeped with a message from Cole, a former border guard who’d been demoted for drinking on duty: In position. No one followed me.Good. The man needed the money badly enough to follow instructions exactly.Footsteps crunched across broken glass as Cole entered through the side door. He wore civilian clothes but moved with the vigilance that never left military men, even disgraced ones.“You sure this is worth the risk?” he asked, glancing around the empty space.“Depends how much you need five hundred a month.” I pulled out an envelope thick with cash. “Plus bonuses for valuable information.”His eyes fixed on the money. “What kind of information?”“Unusual movements along your old patrol routes. St

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 276: Deeper Roots

Penelope’s POVThe warmth of home wrapped around me as I closed the front door behind me. After hours of tense Council meetings and emergency briefings, the sight of our cozy living room felt like stepping into another world—one where political complications couldn’t follow.“Mommy!” Debbie’s voice rang out from the kitchen. “You’re home early!”I found her at the table working on homework, red curls falling across math worksheets. The sight of her focused concentration made my chest tight with affection and guilt. How many evenings had I missed because of territorial obligations?“Math homework can wait,” I announced, scooping her up from her chair.“Mommy, what are you—”My fingers found her ribs, tickling mercilessly until she dissolved into giggles. Her laughter was pure joy, infectious and healing.“Stop! Stop!” she squeaked between breathless laughs. “I can’t breathe!”“Never!” I declared dramatically, chasing her around the kitchen table. “The tickle monster has captured Princes

Penelope’s POVI reviewed performance reports from yesterday’s exercises at the training facility. One hundred and thirty women had participated in advanced combat drills, showing marked improvement. Progress that should have filled me with satisfaction felt hollow as my mind wandered to more personal complications.“Commander?” Nora approached carrying evaluation forms. “The morning session results.”I accepted the paperwork and spread it across my desk. Test scores, improvement metrics, readiness assessments—all the data needed to justify continued expansion of female combat training programs.“How did the new recruits perform?”“Better than expected. Sarah and Emma both exceeded baseline requirements for weapons handling. Jessica’s showing real aptitude for tactical leadership.” Nora settled into the chair across from my desk. “The program’s working, Penelope. Women are proving they can match male fighters in almost every category.”“Almost every category?”“Raw physical strength in

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 274: Teaching Moments

Kelsey’s POVThe afternoon nursery visit had become my favorite part of each day.Alexander lay on his play mat, reaching for colorful toys. He was becoming more aware of his surroundings, tracking movement and responding to familiar voices.Footsteps in the hallway announced another visitor. Debbie appeared in the doorway carrying a small bag and wearing the serious expression she used when tackling important responsibilities.“I brought supplies,” she announced, setting the bag beside Alexander’s crib. “Books for story time, and some toys that are good for his development.”“You’ve been researching baby care?”“I asked the librarian at Rainbow Claw for books about taking care of little brothers. She said reading to babies helps their brains grow faster.”I smiled. Debbie’s genuine desire to help her brother was exactly what I’d hoped to encourage, but her innocent enthusiasm made me feel guilty about the motives behind my encouragement.“Reading is wonderful for babies. Would you lik

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 273: Trusted Counsel

Dominic’s POVThe morning briefing room felt smaller than usual as I spread intelligence reports across the polished table. Border patrol schedules, supply manifests, casualty reports from the latest Rogue encounters—everything demanding immediate attention while my mind struggled to focus.Three hours of sleep wasn’t enough to function properly, but closing my eyes brought memories of Penelope that made rest impossible. Her taste, her scent, the way we’d moved together two nights ago.A knock interrupted my attempts at concentration. Nick entered carrying fresh coffee and a stack of personnel files.“Thought you might need this,” he said, setting the coffee beside my papers. “You look like hell.”“Thanks for the honesty.” I took a grateful sip of the dark brew. “What do you have?”“Background checks on the new security personnel, updated patrol rotations for this week, and recommendations for the supply convoy routes.” Nick settled into the chair across from me. “Also, I’ve been think
