Council meeting tensions escalated as territorial disputes arose over defense resource allocation. Alpha Mark slammed his fist on the polished table while Hadrian argued about ammunition shortages.

I noticed Dominic deliberately avoiding eye contact across the room while Mark distributed patrol schedules with obvious favoritism toward his own territories. Every time our gazes might have met, he found reasons to examine documents or engage other representatives in conversation.

The avoidance stung more than I cared to admit.

After the meeting concluded, I retreated to my private office in the Council building, locking the door behind me.

Minutes later, a knock interrupted my attempt to review territorial maps. I opened the door expecting Ryan with updates, but found Dominic instead.

“Urgent security matters,” he said formally. “May I come in?”
