Julian’s POV

Penelope’s training facility emptied as people headed home for dinner. I remained at my monitoring station, reviewing intelligence reports from the network I’d built over the past months.

Twenty-three active assets provided information from across four territories, but their reports were starting to reveal patterns that concerned me.

Too many of my contacts were asking similar questions about the same targets.

A soft clicking sound from the archives section made me look up from my reports. The sound repeated. It was like a camera.

I moved quietly toward the source of the noise, my enhanced hearing picking up the subtle sounds of someone trying to remain undetected. Footsteps moved carefully between filing cabinets, pausing at regular intervals.

Suddenly, Jessica emerged from behind a tall bank of records, holding a small digital camera and checking its display screen.

I pressed myself against the wall, watching as she photographed files spread across a desk. Names I rec

Dominic’s POVThe television screen in the living room showed Penelope addressing the crowd gathered in Iron Mountain’s courtyard. Her red hair flew behind her while her voice rang out clear and strong.“Let this be a warning,” she declared, standing over Jessica’s motionless body. “Anyone who betrays their people, anyone who sells secrets to our enemies, anyone who puts personal gain above survival will face the same fate.”I felt heat build in my stomach while watching her power, her unwavering commitment to protecting those under her command. The blade in her hand still gleamed with blood while her face showed no regret, no hesitation.“She’s so cruel,” Kelsey said from the couch, Alexander cradled in her arms. “Executing someone in public like that. It’s barbaric.”“It’s necessary,” I replied, unable to look away from Penelope’s image on screen. “Jessica endangered countless lives by selling intelligence to the Rogues.”“But killing her like that, in front of everyone—”“Sends a cl

Julian’s POVThe stairs down to the compound felt endless today. Each step brought me closer to the Rogue King's voice, which grew louder and more furious with every word. "Seven prisoners!" he bellowed. "Gone!"His fist slammed against something wooden—probably that old table he used for meetings. The sound made his lieutenants jump.I reached the bottom and slipped into the chamber. The Rogue King stood over his men, who sat frozen in their chairs like children caught breaking rules. Sweat beaded on their foreheads despite the cool underground air."Vanished like they were never here!" He whirled around, his scarred face twisted with rage. "Someone will answer for this disaster." Lieutenant Harris cleared his throat. “Rogue King, we checked the locks. They were picked from outside, which means—”“Which means what?” The Rogue King’s voice dropped to a deadly whisper. “That we have traitors? That someone helped them escape?”“Maybe their people are better trained than we thought,” I

Penelope’s POVIn the Rainbow Claw training facility, young wolves practiced basic combat drills. Debbie sat cross-legged on a mat near the observation area, watching older students work through sword techniques while I finished reviewing progress reports I’d offered to help their teacher with.“Mommy, when can I start sword training?” she asked, her green eyes bright with interest.“When you’re eight,” I replied automatically, then looked up from my paperwork. “Why the sudden interest in weapons?”“So I can come to the battles with you.” Footsteps approached across the training floor. Dominic appeared in the doorway, his large frame filling the entrance as he scanned the room until he spotted us.“Daddy!” Debbie scrambled to her feet and ran toward him, throwing herself against his legs in an enthusiastic hug.“Hello, sweetheart.” He lifted her easily, settling her against his hip with the natural ease that had developed between them over recent months. “How’s training going?”“Good!

Dominic’s POVThe morning revealed the full scope of yesterday’s battle. Penelope and I walked through the settlement, perusing damage and casualties while our people cleared debris from the streets.“Seventeen structures with significant damage,” she noted, checking items off her list. “But only two civilian injuries, both minor. Seven captured.”“The masked warrior’s intervention made all the difference,” I admitted. “Without Julian creating chaos, we would have taken heavy losses.”“Agreed.” She paused to examine blast damage on a storefront wall. “He is…impressive.”“And concerning.”She looked up sharply. “Concerning how?”“Extreme risk-taking behavior often indicates some sort of instability. Someone willing to throw himself into that level of danger might have compromised judgment.” I gestured toward the scattered debris. “We need to monitor Julian carefully for signs of recklessness.”“He’s been nothing but helpful—”“He’s been motivated by feelings for you that aren’t reciproc

Penelope’s POVThe celebration grew quieter as people began filtering out of the camp. Empty bottles clinked together as Ryan and Tom cleaned up, their movements slow and unsteady from the alcohol.“We should head back too,” Nora said, gathering her jacket from a chair. “Early morning tomorrow.”“You go ahead,” I replied, watching Dominic near the far wall where he’d been nursing the same beer for the past hour. “I need to discuss tomorrow’s cleanup operations with Alpha Dominic.”Nora raised an eyebrow but didn’t comment on my transparent excuse. “Don’t stay too late. You’ve had more to drink than usual.”One by one, the remaining fighters said their goodnights and disappeared into the darkness outside. Julian lingered near the door, but I didn’t look at him.“Julian,” I called out before he could leave. “Thank you again. What you did today…it was amazing.”He nodded, his face showing emotions I couldn’t quite read. “Just doing what needed to be done.”“It was more than that, and you
