Nick’s POV

I was heading to the nursery to check on Alexander when I heard voices rising through the door. Kelsey’s tone had that dangerous edge that meant trouble was brewing.

I pushed the door open just as she raised her hand to strike Natalie across the face.

“You’re nothing but hired help!” Kelsey snarled.

Natalie’s hand shot up, catching Kelsey’s wrist before the slap could land. The movement was lightning-fast, controlled, powerful in a way that made every instinct I had start screaming warnings.

That wasn’t a lucky reaction. That was training.

“Natalie,” I said calmly, stepping into the room. “Step back and show proper respect to Alexander’s mother.”

Both women turned toward me. Kelsey’s face was flushed with rage and humiliation, while Natalie looked perfectly composed despite having just blocked an attack.

But I’d seen what I needed to see. The way she’d moved was like someone who’d done this before.

Something had just happened. Something that had shaken Kelsey badly.

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 362: Accusations

Penelope’s POVI emerged from the nursery to find Kelsey waiting in the hallway like a predator ready to pounce. Her face was twisted with the kind of rage that came from being cornered and desperate.“I heard you,” she snarled. “Talking to your little spy in there.”My pulse jumped, but I kept my expression calm. “I don’t know what you mean.”“Don’t lie to me!” Her voice rose to dangerous levels. “I heard you discussing Nick, discussing things only someone gathering information would care about!”Shit. How much had she actually overheard?“Kelsey, you’re being paranoid—”“Am I? Or am I finally seeing clearly?” She stepped closer, her eyes blazing with fury. “Natalie’s your spy, isn’t she? You planted her here to watch us, to report back about Dominic’s private business!”“That’s ridiculous.” I moved to walk past her, but she blocked my path.“Is it? Because suddenly this perfect nanny appears right when we need help, handles Alexander better than his own mother, and happens to be havi

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 361: Intelligence Gathering

Penelope’s POVI knocked on Darkwood’s front door with Debbie bouncing beside me, her excitement about seeing Alexander providing perfect cover for what I was really here to do. Check on Natalie’s progress, get updates about Nick’s activities, gather intelligence about—Though who was I kidding? Natalie could have met me anywhere to report. I was here because I wanted to see Dominic.“Penelope.” He opened the door himself, and the way his eyes lit up when he saw us made my chest warm. “And Debbie.”“Is Alexander awake?” Debbie asked immediately. “Can we play? I brought him a book!”“He’s napping right now, sweetheart, but he’ll be up soon.” Dominic stepped aside to let us in. “Maybe we could have lunch first?”The normality of it hit me hard. Walking into his house like we belonged here, Debbie chattering about school while Dominic listened with genuine interest. Like we were a real family instead of two broken people pretending everything was fine.Over sandwiches and fruit, I watched

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 359: Slap

Kelsey’s POVI stood outside Alexander’s nursery door for the third time this morning, my ear pressed against the wood like some desperate stalker. Inside, Natalie’s voice bubbled with enthusiasm as she played learning games that sounded way too advanced for a ten-month-old.“Can you stack the blue block on top? Oh, what a clever boy!”My chest burned with jealousy. She talked to him like he was some genius baby, praising every little thing he did. When had she become the expert on what Alexander could do?Alexander babbled back something that almost sounded like real words, and Natalie responded like she understood exactly what he meant. My throat closed up. I used to know what all his sounds meant.Dominic was still away dealing with the fallen packs, leaving me here with this woman who’d stolen my place in my own child’s life. I’d been pushed out so completely that I had to lurk outside doors just to hear Alexander laugh.I knocked softly, my heart hammering against my ribs.“Come i

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 358: Desperate Gambit

Julian's POVThe two dying messengers collapsed right in front of me. Blood pooling under their bodies. Their last words about fallen packs still echoing in the room.I should have been thinking about the horror they'd just described. Instead I was watching Penelope move closer to Dominic without even realizing she was doing it.My chest burned like someone had shoved a knife between my ribs. The way her body just naturally sought his strength when bad news hit. How she leaned into his hand when he touched her shoulder. All those months. All that time I spent rebuilding her trust, being there when she needed support, listening to her fears. None of it mattered. When real crisis hit, she turned to him like it was instinct.I wanted to grab her and shake her until she saw what was happening."We need to figure out our next move," Dominic said.Penelope nodded right away. She hung on every word like he was some brilliant commander instead of the man who'd thrown her away when she needed h

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 357: After the Storm

Penelope’s POVThe silence after battle should have been peaceful. Instead it made my ears ring with phantom screams. Bodies scattered everywhere, the metallic stench of blood thick in my throat, but I couldn’t focus on any of that. All I could see was Dominic. He stood in the middle of the carnage like he belonged there. Blood streaked his clothes and hands, his dark hair wild from combat. Those predator eyes still burned with the same intensity that had made my pulse hammer through the entire fight.Goddess, what was wrong with me? I should be thinking about casualties, about cleanup, about reports. Instead I was staring at him like some lovesick teenager.“We should head back to your facility,” he said, his voice still rough from shouting orders. “Debrief what happened.”The word debrief made heat coil low in my belly. We both knew debriefing wasn’t what either of us had in mind.“Yes,” I managed, hating how breathless I sounded.Walking back, I couldn't stop stealing glances at him
