I had not been the type to notice small things about people in the house ever since the end of Clara, these were details that didn’t seem to matter.

But lately, Nia had started pulling my attention in ways I couldn’t ignore. She came back from Jean’s house different.

Not in some overt, visible way like growing taller overnight, but subtly. Her voice carried an aura it hadn’t before, her presence felt older, her movements deliberate in ways an eight-year-old shouldn’t be capable of.
