Derek's POV

Holly actually slapped Tabitha right before me!

While I stood there in silence, my wolf Leo roared in my mind, "Damn it, Derek! What were you thinking? How could you let her insult our mate like that?"

Recently, I'd been forcing myself to spend more time with Daphne, which brought Leo's wrath upon me.

Now, I could hardly contain his fury.

I used to believe that all I left for Tabitha was hatred. I thought I had gotten over her.

Yet I was wrong.

The moment I saw her stubborn expression and reddened cheek, my heart ached.

Yet before I could even speak, Holly raised her arm again.

She wanted to give Tabitha a second slap?!

The nerve of her!

Enraged, I immediately grabbed her arm.

"Alpha Derek?" Holly looked at me in disbelief.

I took a deep breath, suppressing Leo's anger, and said, "Tabitha's still Luna of the Black Thorn Pack. How dare you slap her in front of me?"

"C'mon, Derek. Why so serious? Holly was just punishing her for disrespecting me. Besides, aren't you about to reject her anyway?" Daphne took my arm, trying to play charm on me.

I let go of Holly and shifted my gaze to Daphne, remarking, "As long as the rejection's not done, she's my Luna. You are a rogue, so you naturally don't understand the weight of the status. Truth is, insulting a Luna means declaring war on the pack."

I turned and stared at Holly, questioning, "Is that what you want?"

She went pale, waving her hands, unsure what to say.

Daphne flushed with embarrassment. She hated it when people called her a rogue.

But I didn't give a damn.

Eyes teary, she lashed out at Holly. "How dare you provoke Alpha Derek? You wanna spoil my happiness, huh?"

"Of course not, sweetie," Holly tried comforting her, but Daphne shoved her hand away with disgust.

"Apologize to Alpha Derek, now!" Daphne ordered.

"This bitch owes our mate an apology, not us!" Leo raged in my mind.

I instinctively shifted my gaze to Tabitha.

Seeing her watching with a deadpan like a bystander, I felt annoyed. Didn't she realize that I was doing this for her sake?

Snapping back to reality, I waved my hand and said, "Don't you dare disrespect my Luna ever again. Or there will be consequences!"

Holly nodded, her face flushed with embarrassment.

Suddenly, a baby's cry broke the tense air.

Our ruckus woke him, I guessed.

Tabitha, hearing the voice, finally lost her cool.

She rushed to the stroller and bent down to look at the baby. And I didn't stop her.

Soon, she jerked her head up and eyed me in disbelief.

The pain in her eyes was evident, but I didn't explain.

Then, she turned around and rushed into the bathroom, slamming the door shut.

"You idiot! I can't feel Crystal now," Leo cursed, his tone worried.

Crystal was Tabitha's wolf, and my recent behavior had weakened her, which partly explained why Leo was displeased.

After a while, Tabitha walked out of the bathroom.

Fixing my gaze on her, I found that she grew thinner, and her usually florid complexion seemed drained of color.

What happened to her?

"You good?" I couldn't help but ask.

"None of your business." Her tone was cold, just like the look on her face.

She brushed past me, and I could feel that she was feeble.

I wanted to drill down, but she marched straight to the front door, giving me no chance to talk.

She then turned and told me earnestly, "I wanna get the rejection ceremony done ASAP. So meet me at the Council of Elders when you're available. Marrying you is the biggest mistake I've ever made, and now I wanna put an end to it while I still can."

With that, she opened the door and left.

The look in her eyes was so icy, like I was a total stranger to her.

'No way! She's my mate. How could she stop loving me before we reject each other?' I murmured in my heart.

Sensing that Tabitha was going to leave me for good, I couldn't help panicking. A feeling I'd never had.

I thought about chasing after her, but Elena's waxen face came unbidden to my mind.

That poor girl died at such a young age. She didn't deserve that!

At this thought, my hatred towards John got reignited. I clenched my fists, trying to avoid showing concern for Tabitha.

But Leo just wouldn't stop urging me to see if she was alright.

Eventually, worry overcame hatred.

I opened the door and followed Tabitha, ignoring the stunned looks of Daphne and Holly.

To my surprise, she hadn't gone far.

Seemed like she fell, as she was collapsing at the curb. Just as I was about to approach her, a man came by from the intersection, helping her up.

Under the streetlight, I could see his gentle gaze on Tabitha crystal clear.

Jealousy devoured me.

Algernon's thick brows knit together, and a heavy Alpha pressure began to radiate from him.“You think choosing a mate is something you just do on a whim?” Algernon's voice was low, carrying a beast-like tremor. “If you swallow prey you don't like, you might feel sick for a few days. And we are talking about choosing a mate with whom Derek has no feelings!" He paused for a moment to soothe his mood."Derek doesn't love Michelle. You know it, right? Forcing him to mark her is a desecration of the Moon Goddess, and Michelle won't receive any blessings. I never forced him to marry Michelle all these years because I hoped time would ease his obsession with his former mate. But he just won't let go.” He took a deep sigh as he said so.Bonnie sat down indignantly, her eyes rimmed with red. “So, aren't you gonna do something about it? Michelle is the jewel of this entire pack. Her bloodline is noble, and all she wants is to be marked by th

Tabitha caught the sudden wave of pressure radiating from him and immediately pulled back. "Oh, sorry. I shouldn't be prying into military secrets."The golden flash of aggression in Cyrus's eyes flickered, replaced by his usual composure. "No, I've overreacted. It is not safe at the border now, and I don't want you to be caught in the crossfire. So, my apologies."A heavy silence fell between them after that. And they didn't say anything more. After breakfast, Cyrus got up from his chair and headed to the front door.Tabitha took a few more bites and then followed behind him. Meanwhile, she couldn't help but think that this man was as cold as iron, somehow, even more rigid than Derek used to be.Still, for all his ferocity, he didn't seem like a bad person. They got into the car and headed to the pack. When the black SUV pulled up in front of the pack house, Cyrus actually stepped out to open the door for her, even shielding the roof with his hand. "Watch your head. The snow is picki

Tabitha spoke calmly. "Cyrus, please don't get me wrong. But Lycan Algernon is already out of danger, and with proper care, he will recover just fine. My medical skills aren't exactly irreplaceable in the pack, and it's obvious Michelle doesn't want me around. I have no interest in being the reason for your family's conflict."Cyrus didn't travel all this way just to find a private doctor for his father's recovery. He knew perfectly well that a doctor who mastered surgery, pharmacology, and nutrition was a rare asset for any pack. Now that he'd found Tabitha, he wasn't about to let her fall into anyone else's hands."We've already discussed this," Cyrus said, softening his tone with a hint of helplessness. "Michelle has been spoiled since she was a pup, and she has no manners. Her behavior was out of line, and I apologize on behalf of our bloodline. I give you my word, from now on, no one in the Black Thorn Pack will dare snarl at you.""Well, since you're swear

Tabitha was no longer the naive girl she once was. She had learned that in the rigid hierarchy of the pack, the closer you were to the top, the more resources you controlled.Staying by Algernon's side was dangerous, but it was where the opportunities were. More importantly, by embedding herself in the Lycan's inner circle, she could better position Derek to win this fierce contest for power.Derek woke up before dawn. Feeling the tension in his muscles, Tabitha wrapped her slender arms around his waist and brushed her nose against his bare back, savoring the lingering, comforting scent of him.“Are you leaving now?" she asked in a muffled voice.“Yeah. Things have been hectic with the pack lately. I need to head back now.”“Well, but you still traveled all this way just to mark me?” Tabitha teased, her voice thick with sleep.Derek suddenly flipped over, pinning her into the plush blankets. He nipped at her nap

Tabitha watched Austin drive away. The second his lingering scent, the one she found utterly repulsive, vanished from the air, her smile dropped from her face. Her gaze turned ice-cold, enough to make anyone shudder. There was a dark glint in the depths of her pupils."Austin... You really think you can get away from what you've done before?" she hissed through gritted teeth. She turned around, her silhouette slowly dissolving into the heavy snow.As she pushed open the front door, a wave of warmth hit her instantly. Along with it came the scent of cedar. It was so dominant, fiery, and fiercely aggressive. For an instant, she knew it was Derek. But somehow, it had turned sharp and pungent, and he was radiating pure jealousy.Derek's large hand shot out, yanking her into his arms and slamming her against his chest, which felt like solid iron. His breath was hot against her skin. He growled, "I was only away for one day, and you come home covered in another

  • Alpha's Wife Hunt   Chapter 892

Austin grabbed a liquor bottle off the table, his joints popping with a subtle, lethal crack. The second those men lunged, he dashed forward. His movement was so fast that he almost turned himself into a flash. As the bottle hit the heads of those men, heavy thuds echoed throughout the room. They shouted in agony and fell to the ground one by one.Tabitha sat perfectly still, watching the scene play out. Austin was a top assassin, and a barroom brawl was too simple for him to handle. As for Tabitha, she had staged this chaos for a reason: to give him the chance to play the hero. That way, her "falling" for him would make perfect sense. It didn't take long. Austin left the group in a heap on the floor. He grabbed Tabitha by the wrist, his voice a low growl."Move! Now!"They bolted out the back door.As a killer who lived in the shadows, his instinct was always to vanish as soon as possible. The midnight wind whipped through the
