Derek's POV

Holly actually slapped Tabitha right before me!

While I stood there in silence, my wolf Leo roared in my mind, "Damn it, Derek! What were you thinking? How could you let her insult our mate like that?"

Recently, I'd been forcing myself to spend more time with Daphne, which brought Leo's wrath upon me.

Now, I could hardly contain his fury.

I used to believe that all I left for Tabitha was hatred. I thought I had gotten over her.

Yet I was wrong.

The moment I saw her stubborn expression and reddened cheek, my heart ached.

Yet before I could even speak, Holly raised her arm again.

She wanted to give Tabitha a second slap?!

The nerve of her!

Enraged, I immediately grabbed her arm.

"Alpha Derek?" Holly looked at me in disbelief.

I took a deep breath, suppressing Leo's anger, and said, "Tabitha's still Luna of the Black Thorn Pack. How dare you slap her in front of me?"

"C'mon, Derek. Why so serious? Holly was just punishing her for disrespecting me. Besides, aren't you about to reject her anyway?" Daphne took my arm, trying to play charm on me.

I let go of Holly and shifted my gaze to Daphne, remarking, "As long as the rejection's not done, she's my Luna. You are a rogue, so you naturally don't understand the weight of the status. Truth is, insulting a Luna means declaring war on the pack."

I turned and stared at Holly, questioning, "Is that what you want?"

She went pale, waving her hands, unsure what to say.

Daphne flushed with embarrassment. She hated it when people called her a rogue.

But I didn't give a damn.

Eyes teary, she lashed out at Holly. "How dare you provoke Alpha Derek? You wanna spoil my happiness, huh?"

"Of course not, sweetie," Holly tried comforting her, but Daphne shoved her hand away with disgust.

"Apologize to Alpha Derek, now!" Daphne ordered.

"This bitch owes our mate an apology, not us!" Leo raged in my mind.

I instinctively shifted my gaze to Tabitha.

Seeing her watching with a deadpan like a bystander, I felt annoyed. Didn't she realize that I was doing this for her sake?

Snapping back to reality, I waved my hand and said, "Don't you dare disrespect my Luna ever again. Or there will be consequences!"

Holly nodded, her face flushed with embarrassment.

Suddenly, a baby's cry broke the tense air.

Our ruckus woke him, I guessed.

Tabitha, hearing the voice, finally lost her cool.

She rushed to the stroller and bent down to look at the baby. And I didn't stop her.

Soon, she jerked her head up and eyed me in disbelief.

The pain in her eyes was evident, but I didn't explain.

Then, she turned around and rushed into the bathroom, slamming the door shut.

"You idiot! I can't feel Crystal now," Leo cursed, his tone worried.

Crystal was Tabitha's wolf, and my recent behavior had weakened her, which partly explained why Leo was displeased.

After a while, Tabitha walked out of the bathroom.

Fixing my gaze on her, I found that she grew thinner, and her usually florid complexion seemed drained of color.

What happened to her?

"You good?" I couldn't help but ask.

"None of your business." Her tone was cold, just like the look on her face.

She brushed past me, and I could feel that she was feeble.

I wanted to drill down, but she marched straight to the front door, giving me no chance to talk.

She then turned and told me earnestly, "I wanna get the rejection ceremony done ASAP. So meet me at the Council of Elders when you're available. Marrying you is the biggest mistake I've ever made, and now I wanna put an end to it while I still can."

With that, she opened the door and left.

The look in her eyes was so icy, like I was a total stranger to her.

'No way! She's my mate. How could she stop loving me before we reject each other?' I murmured in my heart.

Sensing that Tabitha was going to leave me for good, I couldn't help panicking. A feeling I'd never had.

I thought about chasing after her, but Elena's waxen face came unbidden to my mind.

That poor girl died at such a young age. She didn't deserve that!

At this thought, my hatred towards John got reignited. I clenched my fists, trying to avoid showing concern for Tabitha.

But Leo just wouldn't stop urging me to see if she was alright.

Eventually, worry overcame hatred.

I opened the door and followed Tabitha, ignoring the stunned looks of Daphne and Holly.

To my surprise, she hadn't gone far.

Seemed like she fell, as she was collapsing at the curb. Just as I was about to approach her, a man came by from the intersection, helping her up.

Under the streetlight, I could see his gentle gaze on Tabitha crystal clear.

Jealousy devoured me.

The alpha stared out at the falling snow, his expression grim and unreadable, as if lost in deep thought."Dad, do you know Ms. Hartley?" Cyrus began.Algernon let out a quiet sigh but did not answer directly.Cyrus tightened his grip on the steering wheel, an uneasy feeling slowly settling over him.He had a feeling that something major was about to happen within the pack.***After returning to the villa, Tabitha changed into comfortable lounge clothes. The moment Derek stepped inside, he wrapped his arms around her from behind and held her like he never wanted to let go."Alright, we haven't even had dinner yet. I'll make something quick. "I've given her chance after chance, but she has never once learned from her mistakes. Instead, she only became more reckless, hiding behind the family name while hurting others whenever she wants. I know exactly what she did at the hospital on the day of my surgery! If that doctor hadn't been kind enough to let it go and chosen not to stoop to her level, I would have died on that operating table!"That doctor saved my life, yet neither of you has shown even the slightest gratitude. Instead, you keep pulling these disgraceful schemes behind everyone's backs. If you look down on her so much, then prove you're better than her with your own abilities! The truth is, you only act this way because you're my daughter!"I want to see how you'll continue acting so high and mighty once you no longer have my name or the family's protection behind you."Misha was completely terrified. Bonnie quickly nudged her, signaling her to kneel and apologize to Algernon."Dad,

Algernon's tightly controlled emotions finally boiled over. He had managed to keep his temper in check until Misha's name came up. The instant he heard it, he hurled the delicate cup to the ground. It had been his favorite tableware set, but now it lay shattered, the broken pieces scattered at Bonnie's feet.He had no patience left for his daughter."What do you mean by that? Did she do it out of kindness? No. She wanted the whole world to laugh at our family! I've let her mistakes slide over and over because she was still young. But this keeps happening. How many more messes is she going to cause?""This wasn't something Misha could have come up with on her own. It has to be Bentley. He wants to use this incident to go after Derek," Bonnie shot back."If she hadn't agreed to it, could something this ridiculous have happened today? The truth is, she never thinks for herself. She does whatever other people tell her to do!"Algernon let out a

"As you can see, she's Tabitha, my ex-mate, not some infiltrator," Derek said. "She just prefers to keep a low profile and doesn't like being in the spotlight. Back then, she only performed the surgery on Lycan Algernon because I begged her to. I never imagined that her kindness would be mistaken for malicious intent. All this time, Misha has gone out of her way to insult and make things difficult for Tabitha. We tolerated it all because of Lycan Algernon's health."But tonight, she did it again, trying to humiliate Tabitha in front of everyone. I've had enough—I won't let her be treated like that again. Lycan Algernon, you're almost fully recovered. So find someone else."Tabitha's clothes were only partially soaked, but Derek was drenched from head to toe. With a scowl, he pulled Tabitha along and headed for the door.Everyone at the table sat stunned by the sudden turn of events. Cyrus hurried after them and suggested, "It's freezing outside. "Dad, I've checked the HD surveillance footage countless times," Misha said. "The bullet grazed her face—I'm sure of it. There's only one explanation for her face being unharmed: this isn't her real face. She's wearing a mask!"She turned to Tabitha. "Do you have anything to say?"It seemed Misha had solid proof this time; otherwise, she wouldn't be so confident.Tabitha gave up defending herself. "No," she replied, her voice flat.Misha was overjoyed. She clapped her hands smugly. "Then let's see who you really are."Two Omegas walked over carrying two basins of water and threw them at Tabitha without warning.Derek immediately threw himself over her, taking the brunt of the cold water."Derek! What are you doing?" Misha shouted. "The special-effect prosthetic mask on her face will warp and peel off once it gets wet. I'm just—"Tabitha gently pushed Derek away and calmly looked at everyone. "Are you really that desperate to know who I am?"Algernon had already stood up. "Who exactly

"Dad, I understand," Misha replied. "Oh, by the way, since Vanessa saved your life twice, I'm thinking about hosting a banquet at the packhouse to thank her.""Didn't you always dislike her?" Algernon asked."That's a separate matter. She saved you, so she deserves our gratitude. And since Derek was the one who brought her here, we owe him thanks too.""Alright. I'm glad to hear you say that. If you two can truly get along, I won't have a thing to worry about. Go make the arrangements."Algernon felt a sudden wave of relief—his daughter had truly grown up; she was no longer the willful girl she used to be.Misha invited the Rios family, Derek, and a few others. When Tabitha received the invitation, her first thought was: "What's Misha up to this time?"The last time Misha hosted a banquet, she'd drugged Tabitha and Derek.
