The night before

Lisa's POV

I wanted to stay with Solana at the hospital, but Beta Gerald came, and he asked me to go home to my mate. He offered to watch her. I trusted the Beta, so I let her watch her, as I wanted to go to Reuben.

Driving back, I could not help but think about Solana. She was fine. She had been fine throughout the day. Was she poisoned? Could it be the food at the community dinner? But I ate the same food with her, and I felt fine.

I gripped the wheels tightly, my head spinning with different possibilities. I just wanted to see my mate, and maybe he would assure that she would be fine.

Getting back into the packhouse, I entered our room, but Reuben wasn't there. I thought he was home, as Gerald asked me to go to him.

Mara and the other members were also outside, but I didn't pay them any attention this time.

'Babe, where are you?' I sent a mindlink, and I got a response instantly.

'At the hospital. Where are you?'

I groaned. I told him what happened, and I g

  • Alpha's regret: Omega's second chance   III-40: So close, yet so far

Amara's POVThe night was cold. Extremely cold. But it had nothing to do with the weather. It was loneliness and it was fear. It was the thought that I was cursed and I was never meant to be with anyone. It was the fear that my life was a punishment and I could not be saved.Damien was my mate. My wolf didn't confirm it to me as it usually happens, but I knew it. I could feel it. Whenever I was with him— which was almost all the time— I could feel that tether pulling our souls together. But it's been five days, and he still wasn't waking up. There was no improvement whatsoever.I had been lying on his bed, trying to sleep. Or rather, deceiving myself because I knew that I would not sleep.I had spent the whole day with him at the hospital, and I insisted on sleeping over. But Klaus was the one who carried me— literally scooped me up and Valerie assisted as he shoved me into the car. They were all worried, because I was refusing to eat, to sleep, to do anything that wasn't pace in Dami

  • Alpha's regret: Omega's second chance   III-39: Could it be?

Amara's POVI left the room to avoid getting into an argument with Uncle Luke. Not in front of his wife, and especially not in front of Damien. He kept on blaming me, as if I didn't have my own share of guilt to carry already. When I went back to the private room, Jamie and Carrie had left, Amanda was probably somewhere else, leaving just Klaus and Valerie."How are you?" Valerie asked gently, getting up from her mate's laps.I shrugged. "I will live."She narrowed her gaze in a way that told me she knew more than I was letting on. But thankfully she didn't press."Did you think about it?" Klaus asked, and I knew he was referring to the situation between Amanda and Damien.I hesitated for a moment. Then I answered."I think she should accept his rejection now. It will put him at risk, but Damien is strong. He will survive." I nodded, forcing myself to believe that. "He will definitely survive. He... he can't leave me. He... I know him. I am... I am sure.""Calm down." Valerie said, ge

  • Alpha's regret: Omega's second chance   III-38: Gamble with fate

Amara's POVWhat I felt was beyond pain. It was beyond just fear. It was grief in slow motion, dressed in the clothes of Déjà vu. My stomach was turning so bad. For a moment, I feared I was going to vomit my own heart heart out.The way I had held Damien to my chest was the exact same way I had held Jared, while they both struggled to breathe. It was cruel, far too cruel for that kind of history to repeat itself. But it was different this time. The fear this time was more intense, more paralyzing, it felt like I had been plunged into the deep trenches of the sea where the powerful pressure threatened to tear me apart."I can't lose him." I said to Valerie, who was standing beside me now, hands on the small of my back and tears in her eyes.Amanda and her guard had driven us back to our pack, while Jamie already made preparations for us with the doctors at the hospital. Now we were in Damien's private room, while we watched him, completely uncertain about anything."You won't." Valerie

  • Alpha's regret: Omega's second chance   III—37: The last time

Amara's POVThe moment stretched with an awkward silence. I was so grateful when the bartender came in with my bottle of water."You know, I reached out to Damien's family." She began slowly, eyes gauging my reaction even though I tried to keep a poker face. I mentally gave myself a pat on the back for how well I was holding on, even though all I wanted to do was flip everything here and flip her too. "His father to be more specific."The mention of Damien's father made me panic for a moment, knowing that he did not support us."The way he gave me his support and blessing tells me that he does not approve of you.""It does not matter. That's Damien's father, not him." I responded in the same neutral tone, even though my expression had taken on a glare that told her that I would not stand for this conversation much longer.Amanda chuckled. "Do you really love him? I learnt that you had your mate and you forgot about him." She took a short pause when I gasped, my fists clenching. "If he

  • Alpha's regret: Omega's second chance   III—36: Bond or love

Amara's POVDamien carried me all the way to his room, his hands on my ass, while mine were wrapped around his neck. He kept on peppering my face with kisses, soft and desperate ones that made my heart ache. Every touch said how much he missed me.While me? I was giggling nonstop. He came back and he was still mine. When he set me down in the room, I reached to undo the buttons of his sleeves, because I wanted to feel more of him. But he suddenly held my hand, stopping me."I need you." I whispered, desperate to have his warmth pressed on me.He shook his head. "We can't.""Why— why not? I thought you—""She didn't reject me."My heart sank. When he carried me and brought me to the room, kissing my face like that, I assumed he was now free, that the bond was severed. I thought he was fully mine now and wanted to make love to me.A pang of guilt hit me. "I am sorry. I—"I pulled away, shake creeping in like a cold breeze. He wanted me. I knew that. He says it to me. He shows it. But ri

  • Alpha's regret: Omega's second chance   III-35: Meet up

Amanda's POVI sat back on my seat, as I could not continue standing. My knees my were weak, my heart heavy. My pride— what was left of it— bad been trampled upon.An Alpha does not knee. An Alpha does not beg.But here I was, begging a man that I had met just twice because I could not imagine him leaving me. I could not bear the thought of him being with another woman. It hurt so bad. Why was I paired with someone who didn't want me at all? I have never met someone who resisted the mate bond as strongly as he did.I had worn this dress, letting out a generous amount of cleavage— something that wasn't my usual style— in hope to entice him. He looked once, and I thought I had him. But he proved me wrong. He only looked once, then he avoided that area like I had a warning sign written there.I could tell that he was affected, but his dedication to fighting the bond was so strong. He must really love that woman.I felt hands on my back, and I turned to see my Gamma— Manuel. He was the on
