HELEN’S P.O.V.

Grief is usually a sharp thing. It cuts like a knife. But this wasn't grief.

This was something vast and hollow. It was the feeling of standing in a cathedral after

the choir has stopped singing, when the silence is so heavy it presses against your

eardrums.

I sat on the cold stone of the bridge, my legs dangling over the abyss.

Ten yards away, the Star Core pulsed.

Thrum... thrum... thrum.

It was a gentle, rhythmic blue light. It washed over us like a tide. Inside the semitranslucent sphere, the shadow was still there. Small. Curled in the fetal position.

Floating in the center of the plasma storm.

Leo.

He wasn't dead. I knew that. The bond—the mother-cord that connected my soul to his—

was still intact. But it had changed.

Before, the bond felt like a live wire, buzzing with his fear, his hunger, his joy. Now, it felt

like an anchor chain dropping into the Mariana Trench. It was deep, heavy, and silent.

"He is dreaming," Wulfric said softly.

Continuing the ultra-detailed, slow-burn style. This chapter marks the return to the origin point, the terrifying efficiency of the "NewLeo," and the realization that the enemy isn't just fighting a pack anymore—they arefighting a force of nature.HELEN’S P.O.V.We didn't sneak back into the North. We arrived like a storm front. The cargo ship had dropped us at a remote mining port on the coast of the BeaufortSea. From there, Damian had "procured" (stolen) a heavy-duty all-terrain transport—amassive, six-wheeled beast designed to crush permafrost. We drove inland for six hours, navigating by the stars and the pull of the metal plate inmy pocket. As we crested the final ridge overlooking the Shadow Claw crater, Damian killed theengine. The silence that followed was heavy."Look at it," Kai whispered, raising his thermal binoculars. "They've turned it into afortress."Below us, the crater was no longer a silent, snowy graveyard. It was a hive of industrialactivity. Floodlights b

The forest woke up with birdsong and light. The swamp woke up with a gurgle.I opened my eyes to the smell of sulfur and chicory coffee. The light filtering through thegaps in the driftwood walls was a sickly, bruised purple.I sat up on the pile of cushions. The space next to me was empty.Damian was gone. Leo was gone.Panic, my constant companion for the last week, spiked in my chest. I scrambled up,grabbing my gun from under the pillow, and ran out onto the porch of the shack. The morning mist was thick, clinging to the water like wet wool.I saw them. They were fifty yards out, standing on a series of rotting wooden pylons that jutted outof the black water.Elena sto

HELEN’S P.O.V.The elevator descent was agonizingly slow.Above us, the muffled thump-thump-thump of explosions vibrated through the shaftwalls. Seraphina was up there, standing in her shattered foyer with a rifle and a martiniglass, buying us time with blood and diamonds.I stood in the corner of the brushed-steel car, clutching Leo against my chest. He wastrembling—not with power this time, but with the hollow, rattling shake of withdrawal. Hehad drained the estate, fried the grid, and now his human body was crashing hard."She'll be fine," Damian said. He was staring at the floor numbers ticking down, his jawset so hard a muscle feathered in his cheek. "Seraphina is a survivor. She has a panicroom. She has mercenaries on payroll.""She has Vane at her door," Kai muttered, checking the magazine of his rifle. "And Vanedoesn't take prisoners. He erases them."Damian didn't answer. He couldn't. Admitting the likelihood of her death would break thefragile resolve holding him tog

HELEN’S P.O.V.Seraphina’s estate was not a house. It was a statement. While the Crescent Moon estate was built of timber and stone, designed to blend intothe forest, the Silver River stronghold was a sprawling modernist sculpture of glass, steel, and white concrete perched on a cliff overlooking the roaring river. It screamed money. It screamed power. And, as we walked into the pristine white foyer, dripping with mud, soot, and ancient cave dust, it screamed that we did not belong here."Shoes," Seraphina commanded, pointing a manicured finger at the marble floor. "Off.Immediately. That represents Italian marble imported from a quarry that no longerexists."I kicked off my heavy tactical boots. My socks were gray wool, holey at the toe.Kai unlaced his combat boots, grimacing. "You got any guest slippers, Sera? Or do wejust slide around in our socks like Risky Business?""The guest wing has heated floors," Seraphina said, tossing her fur coat to a silentattendant who appeared fr

HELEN’S P.O.V.The snow in the Yukon doesn't crunch. At forty degrees below zero, it squeaks. It soundslike Styrofoam rubbing against glass—a high-pitched, abrasive friction that grates on thenerves. We had been walking for three hours. The adrenaline from the glider jump had long since evaporated, replaced by a dull, aching exhaustion. My legs felt like lead weights. My lungs burned with every inhalationof the crystalline air.We moved in a single file line through the dense taiga forest, using the tree cover to hidefrom the drones I could hear buzzing high above the canopy.Damian took point, breaking the trail. He carried Leo on his back again, but not becauseLeo was tired.Because Leo was a radiator.I walked directly behind Damian, close enough to feel the waves of heat radiating offour son. Leo wasn't just warm; he was hot. The energy he had siphoned from the StarCore was metabolizing slowly, venting through his skin.Where Damian walked, the snow didn't just compress; it
